Minke 8 "Um....I think...." Minke paused, looking around him at the vast openness of the ocean. This area was close to his home and thus was a stretch of land, both on the beach and under the water, that he had explored every inch of already. Not that that meant there weren't new things to find all the time. Like the pretty blue fish he had seen just last week, peeking out from behind a clump of seaweed before darting off as he got closer. The world was ever-changing, with new things to see every day. At least it was the only change he liked. "Maybe the coral reef over there," he answered, pointing off to the right.

Auli'i 9 Smiling, Auli'i followed the man's finger with her violet eyes. "Mm. Good choice," she agreed, nodding her head. "You think those bright yellow fish will still be there?" It had been quite a surprise. Like most patches of coral, the variety of life that lived there was large, from one end of the rainbow to the other. That one had been no exception. Except for yellow and green. But recently, a small school of yellow fish with purple fins had decided to move in. Since they hadn't disrupted the animals that already lived there, it had been quite exciting for the Hapuna and her strange Earthling friend. They watched them from a distance, for as long as Minke's small lungs and body could handle the constant diving.

Minke 9 "I hope so." Shielding his eyes from the glare of the sun, Minke watched a boat on the horizon lazily drifting across the water, a net dragging behind it with a Matori lounging near it, head down and hands cupped together to suggest the fisher was reading a book while allowing the current to gently push them along. "I've never seen them before."

Auli'i 10 If he looked this way, Minke would have easily noticed the smug look on the Hapuna's face. Oh, he hadn't? They were a pretty common enough fish, though mostly found deeper out to sea than close to shore as these were. Normally, she would have proudly, though more arrogantly, shared this fact. She knew far more about the waters that surrounded them than any Earthling could dream of and she loved little more than to let them know of that fact. Today, however? Today she kept quiet. She wasn't sure why, but a part of her she rarely used was instructing her not to say anything.
"I assume they will. It's about the time for them to start laying eggs."

Minke 10 Eyes gone slightly wide, Minke did turn to look at Auli'i than, excitement bubbling up in his chest. Right. It was about that time, wasn't it? He had forgotten in the worry over his eyes. "We should be careful not to disturb them, than." As much as he would love to watch the different rituals of the animals, he also didn't wish to distress them too much. An animal under too much stress wouldn't be able to do what they needed to do. For all he knew, this could be a species in danger of extinction. It was up to them as the more compassionate species, to protect the creatures and plants that they shared this world with. For, once they were gone, they were gone forever.
With a single nod of agreement from Auli'i, the two slowly waded out into the water, until it was deep enough for swimming, in pursuit of discovery.
