At least here, the older woman's own grumpy expression shifted to one of almost matronly amusement. Tavihe, meanwhile, was stunned that she hadn't gouged the blonde for a sackful of coins! The prentice, however, greedily scuttled forward, almost bouncing as she accepted the book.
The deal completed, the woman completely turned away from them in as clear a sign of dismissal at they would get, so Tavihe turned their attention fully to the blonde. "Not that my word means much in a place like this, but don't think they'll do anything with your book if we go." Tavi said in a hushed voice, which definitely was overheard if the old woman's snort was anything to go by.
Just in case, Tavi guided the blonde back to the top of the stairs, head bowed close. Their eyes dropped to the coins, considering, then lifted back to the blonde's face. "I'm Tavi. You can buy me some grub, and we can come back to get your plant. Unless you wanna figure out how to get outta here all on your own?"

“I hadn’t even thought about that,” Endellion murmured with a look over their shoulder. For a moment they thought about sticking around, but there was something about the pair that made them want to trust. Or, rather, trust as much as they could in a place like this. The older hybrid had made it clear she didn’t want Endellion getting into anything they couldn’t handle, in her own way, and her apprentice was just so happy to have it.
The moment it was clear the Kawena didn’t want payment right then Endellion closed the pouch and wisely hid it in their pack. “I can roll with that.” They quirked a little smirk. “I’m Del. I’ve got enough in here to cover two good meals so lead me to a spot where the cook washes their hands, alright?”

Cheeky! Tavihe laughed brightly at that, clapping the blonde on the shoulder before moving to step down the stairs again. "Tavi. And really, you're doing me a favor - I sail soon and if ya paid me money, it'd just disappear from my pocket before I could spend it. Y'know, I've got just the place - though, uh." They looked at Del again, michief plain on their face, "Might not wanna look at the kitchen before you eat. I promise it's good though."

“You’re a sailor?” Their heel caught something slimey on a step and while it caused Endellion to slid back they didn’t dare look at it. Whatever was that moist in this type of environment deserved to stay just where it was. “What ship are you on?” They didn’t know why it felt so odd. Maybe it was because Tavi seemed so at ease with the port that they’d just assumed they lived and worked here?
“Listen, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt here since you haven’t steered me wrong yet, but if I get sick it’ll be your face I remember.”

"Whatever ship my master tells me to jump on this time!" Tavihe lied smoothly, knowing better than to admit what ship they were on. If this friendly fellow spotted their ship, Tavihe didn't want them to be stupid enough to hail them down and get themselves boarded! "You've got yourself a deal - I hope you like noodles, my friend!"
