The feeling of battle high didn’t last long, not when Briallen’s staff finally connected with her abdomen and Odina let out a gasp as the blow hit. Staggering backwards, the Vandrea grabbed at her stomach and shot her sister a glare as she tried to catch her breath. Her diaphragm didn’t seem to want to react, Odina feeling her vision blur for a moment as she unsuccessfully gasped for air. Stubborn as always though she tried to swing towards Briallen before falling to her knees, the staff dropping from her hands as she tried to breathe. If she had the ability to curse right now then there would be a string of words coming from her lips! How embarrassing!

The sight of her sister like that did not bring Briallen a pleasant feeling. Unlike Odina there was no joy in fighting for Briallen, just a necessity for survival. The Alkidike dropped her own staff, rushing over to her sister’s side so that she could support her as she gasped for air. “Give it a second, stay calm.” She commanded, realizing she had struck a bit harder than desired with that blow. It didn’t help that Odina had been stubborn and tried to fight despite having the breath knocked out of her. Briallen stifled the sigh at her sister’s attitude as she waited patiently, knowing that Odina should be fine after a few moments.

Odina gulped down fresh air when her body finally decided to work again. It stung, her lungs burning as she started breathing again and her body aching from the actual impact still, but Odina didn’t dare show any weakness as she tried to get back to her feet again. “I…I…can keep going.” She protested, taking a few staggering steps away from Briallen. “Pick….your staff up.”

“No.” Briallen rejected the challenge, standing back up herself as she brushed the dirt from her legs where she had crouched next to Odina while she struggled for breath. “I think I did enough to prove a point. If my words couldn’t get through to you then I hope my ability to fight did.” She was still a warrior even if she had taken a different path from Odina. There was nothing about Briallen that was lazy, she was simply spending her time on other things instead of only training and staying on the isles for the rest of her life. And why was that such a crime to Odina? She just wanted to live and be herself! The very thought made her cheeks flush with emotion again, the Alkidike looking away again to calm herself before continuing. “Just so you know, I left originally to get stronger not to just play or laze about.” She added after a moment, glancing back towards Odina with a pointed look. “Think about that and get some herbal tea, that’ll sting for a bit. I’m going home, I’ll put the kettle on for us so come back when you’re ready.” Briallen would need some ointment as well for her ribs, they were surely bruised if not cracked even from that earlier blow. She could have just let Odina throw punches at her, Briallen taking a beating to try to get through to her sister, but she realized that proving her own worth in battle was another way if not the best way that she could get a point across. Words after all had failed so far to show anything to Odina, that much Briallen accepted as she slowly walked away from the clearing only allowing herself to limp slightly once she was out of sight.

Odina opted to not say anything, the Vandrea simply watching as Briallen watched away until she could no longer see her older sister. Once she was truly alone the warrior simply sat back down, a fist pounding into the ground next to her as her gaze stung with unshed tears from the frustration. Had traveling truly given Briallen an advantage like that? Was she missing something during her own training sessions to lose against her sister? And did it matter if Briallen was strong if she was rarely here to defend her home? Odina’s fingers dug into the ground as she tried to sort through her feelings. She would figure this all out, she would get stronger and not be defeated so easily like this next time!
