"I agree, he is pretty cool looking, I can't believe that hes letting you pet him like that." Perhaps she had some beast taming magic to her yet. "I regret to say that I am in fact now hungry and then I would like to look for a snaptrotter of my own. We are out of fish guts, perhaps we can rustle up some more treats for our new friend on our adventures, what do you think?"
He washed his hands of the entrail leavings and started out of the water. He had caught no fish but the one she had would do for both of them, he would boil up some rice from their stores and maybe track down a coconut or two and they would be well fed for snaptrotter hunting but first they had to get a fire going.
He took dry branches and tree bits to use as tinder and squished out just enough magic for a spark of flame. Then fed and babied the fire until it was going. They ate contentedly and he was excited for the snaptrotter hunt later.
He would have his own scaly pet! He scratched Xerius behind the ears so that he would not feel upstaged.

After they ate they set off inland to find him a pet of his own. She thought that this island was a great place and maybe she and he would spend some time here once she was pregnant and again when their children or child were born. She was excited. Soon enough they were on the trail of a few snaptrotters and then they were on the edge of a clearing where a bull was hosting a few females.
"Well my love take your pick, there are many here and it looks like there are a few more bulls on the outskirts ready to take the bevy of females from this guy. If you get a girl she may lay eggs, the males from this group would be strong and healthy as they are wild and able to compete for females. Look for good confirmation and besides that make sure you like their color. As they will be around for quite some time. Riptide was wild caught and a brat. Uncle Thal has Myr who is also a brat. Keep that in mind, they may not behave like Xerius."

He looked out at the clearing a bit in shock and a bit spoiled for choice. There were so many snaptrotters here. It was a bit like a very toothy walking rainbow. He stayed very still, nodded at Kechiri, whom he was very glad was with him at the moment and just sort of drank in the sight of the creatures. Every moment since she had said that she wanted his babies seemed to be more alive and take longer than normal as if he were a bit drunk.
He smiled out at the animals and chose a royal blue snaptrotter that was missing the very tip of its tail. It had white eyes and yellow tiger stripes down its back. "Her, I chose her." She was beautiful and he thought the missing tail tip added some character. "I like that she is missing part of her tail, reminds me a bit of a pirate." He grinned. "You can imagine why I find that attractive." He pinched her butt lightly.
"How do you propose we go about this. And can we figure out if she has a nest yet? Maybe Riptide would oblige her as a mate if she is not already carrying that bloke's eggs." The bloke in question was pitch black with yellow eyes and blue and purple spots. " Though if she was already covered that would be okay too."

"Welp, first of all I say we scatter the roaches, best mount up Ranger." She giggled and pinched his butt back. "Time to put your honey where your mouth is." She swung up onto her janarim. "You can use Xerius or Riptide, whoever you prefer. Riptide is touch sensitive and will move away from where you apply pressure with your heel, no need to use the reins with him. He is also a little taller and might be more effective than Xerius. Now mount up we are burning daylight."
They mounted up, he ended up chosing Riptide for his size, which somewhat surprised her that he had actually taken her advice but she supposed she had a bit more skill in this matter coming from a beast tamer heavy family.
"We separate her from the rest and rope her then we can force her back to camp and you can tame her slowly, in a group like this this is our best bet for success."
It was a bit like the cave man bonk and drag home.

They managed to separate the female from the group with much yelling and chaos and dodging bites and nips. Wild snaptrotter were nothing to sneeze at especially with the zest of breeding fever upon them. He sort of felt that deep in his bones at the moment but she was separated, roped and forced to come along with them. He hoped she would not resent him for it later but with the proper cajoling he might be able to bring her around to see reason. That and much treatos.
It was a lucky thing that beasts like most men could be brought around with the promise of food and a gentle touch. He turned to Kechiri on the way back to the camp that they still had to set up, "Thank you for everything. You fill my ocean."
The line went taught and slack in turn but there was no way that Zorna his freshly named trotter might avoid going home. When her mate came to claim her, Kechiri roped him too. "Look a two for one special!" Radagast joined them as well. A fruitful day beast charming.
