The thought of a cat stealing a coat seemed so ridiculous he burst out laughing, causing him to lose focus on draining the person he was touching next. Noticing it though, he quieted down and went back to work. Each of these people had the same marks, each could be offered the same fate as the first but he didn’t want to leave so many bodies. One death could be an accident but a whole group in such a small area was suspicious. A small little thought swirled in his head as they spoke, of how he could offer that option at the hospital to those who already had one foot in the grave. It would serve two purposes, fulfilling his quota and bringing peace to someone who was suffering.

“With so many people in the world it wouldn’t be worth it to keep track of each soul. It makes sense, even with a strict organization things like that tend to fall through the cracks. But really? Do you just keep one in a jar? Like some sort of magical night light?” Standing up as he finished, he dosed out more sanitizer on his hands and cleaned them as best he could. None of them had anything communicable that he could tell but he still didn’t like the feeling of grime left on his hand after touching them to siphon off energy.

“It’s a habit and I feel it would help in this line of work as well as my standard position. There are a lot of easy signs to look for the diseases that affect the less fortunate, things that show up enough you could tell what ails someone.” Wiping his hands as the rest of the sanitizer evaporated he held up the orb of energy. “How much exactly is the quota, it was a bit vague in the guide.” He liked specifics but needed there to be some sort of guideline if he was going to be taking time out of his routine to do this.

“I guess that means they don’t really have a presence once outside of a body the same way we do when powered up. That’s good at least. Though I guess that also means you don’t bring that french tart into your home either.” If they were a civilian and stopping by, it would be something that needed to be explained. Though with technology these days it could be argued that it's a floating light held up with magnets or something. Either way, he was learning more and more from his cousin’s loose lips about that so and so they were associating with and he really didn’t like seeing the risk factors doubling with each new thing he learned.

“Ah, I see. Then maybe with an hour or two here and there on the weekends I can manage it just fine without having to tap into things during the work week. I could adjust accordingly when events pop up as well so I can attend them with peace of mind.” With everything planned out in his calendar, it would be easy to slot things here and there and continue on with both sides of his life. “I think just a few more and then I can give this orb to you to turn in since you are my superior.” It felt a bit odd, as he learned more and more about things but it was fine.

Only a month’s difference in age but they had grown up so differently. It was nice though, being able to follow along and make sure his cousin was safe, even if they were doing so very much to go against that.
