“No, while we’re here I should soak my hands,” he sighed. “I don’t think I did them any favors just now.”
He fanned his fingers out in front of them. He still had all his nails, that was the important part. He might paint them when they got home to distract from how bruised they were. He had fresh blood under one nail but resisted the urge to pick at it and instead just laid his hand on his stomach.
“My old bones were already aching. Best to be responsible. Can we call Princess over? I miss her.” It hadn’t been so long since he saw her last, she just occupied a great space in his heart and he didn’t have the luxury of doting on her on Earth or Alastor like he did here.
They shouldn’t stay too long, Atticus would want to say goodnight. They could eke out an hour, maybe two. If they were going to spend any time resting, they might as well do it in the warmth of the water. He wasn’t worried about drying off his outfit, they had other clothes to change into stashed up here. And, this water was healing. It always helped clear his mind. Maybe he could shake some of the shadows out of his head before Michael really started to worry.

“I wanted to make sure you didn’t mind being slobbered on,” Michael said with a small smile.
It was easy to summon Princess to them. Easy for her to accompany them down the hall. Even if she tilted her head dramatically one way and then the other, as though trying to figure out why Devyn was being carried. Maybe trying to figure out what injury was ailing him. Maybe trying to decide who needed their throats torn out.
Despite her size, she was quite capable of walking with them to the springs. She could watch over them as they both rested in the heat. Michael had every intention of pampering Devyn, of course. He didn’t mind how long he had to do it, he doubted he would ever get tired of it. He wanted Devyn to know he was loved and cherished and treating him kindly came easily to Michael.
Even if he worried, he knew Devyn would tell him if there was really something bothering him. Or at least he hoped so. Michael made a point of being honest with Devyn, anyway. It would just take some time to figure things out, but that was okay because they had all the time in the world.
