OpticPeach No worries at all! Totally understand that one, haha. c: Hopefully it's all going well! “You’re a better spirit then most then.” Cyril admitted, simply shaking his head as he looked away from the other earthling to study his map some more. How anyone could simply take a beating for others without anything in return was beyond him. He was not that generous, not when he fought to earn as much as he could. “Your muscles only stay good as long as you live.” He murmured as an afterthought, not realizing it may come across as caring about the stranger sitting next to him. It was simply an observation that had slipped from his lips without thinking about it and nothing more.
Handsome. The nickname or compliment, whichever she viewed it as, had nearly slipped past him the first time but now he was picking up on it. Still, he pushed aside the annoyance to focus on the important pieces of their conversation. “We’ve managed so far.” Minus that one situation at the inn which had nearly traumatized him for life alongside of Selim, that was. Even that had been a misunderstanding, but Cyril did realize that they were moving into more dangerous areas of Yael. It wouldn’t be like traveling from inn to inn with caravans while they were exploring here. The very thought made him press his lips tightly together as he silently assented to the fact that it was indeed dangerous. If he was by himself then perhaps he would feel better about risking such things, but….he wasn’t alone. He had Selim to worry about as well. Dammit. Was he going to regret this? Most definitely. Cyril took a long drink of his wine as he contemplated the mad idea and then took action, a soft sigh leaving his lips before he said the cursed words. “Are you suggesting that I need a guard then? An ideal situation for someone who is looking to keep her muscles good as you said earlier.” He set the wine glass down and settled back in his seat, studying her as if waiting for some feral creature to strike. “I’m tight on funds so anything with me won’t be quite as lucrative as with someone else. Additionally, its Cyril and not handsome.” If he was going to have to see her again he supposed it was worthwhile to share his name to avoid such embarrassing nicknames or compliments.

Zumei's smile grew as he offered up his name, something she really wasn't expecting on getting from him at all. Maybe it was more because it bothered him to be called handsome over his name, but either way now she knew! Score one for her! She found it a little amusing how defensive he got over certain things, how every admission from him looked like it pained him. "Managing is a bit different than being safe, Cyril." Zumei liked to travel, whether that was just her nature of being a wind or her she could never really say, but having a chance to travel with someone else was her favorite. Despite her overly friendly nature she often found herself alone, so having the chance to be with others again was a sort of relief she didn't want to admit to Cyril. "You don't have to pay me. Or well, not in money. I've got my own funds and all so save it for yourself. I promise to guard you well, and maybe just feed me in exchange? You don't even have to do that really. I'm just happy to help out." And also not be by herself with her thoughts. She stretched her arms over her head and sighed, considering her own options. Did she let Howth know? Did it really matter? He'd run off with his pretty girl so he didn't need her bothering him. "If you really mean it I'll do whatever it takes."

And she was already using his name. So begins the regret. Cyril gave the ceiling an exasperated look as she turned things on him, his bright green gaze flashing for a moment before he looked back at Zumei. “A matter of perspective, I suppose.” He managed even though he didn’t want to acknowledge that she was somewhat right about the difference between managing and being safe. Just somewhat though. At least that was as far as his pride was willing to admit.
Not in money? Cyril frowned, his confusion growing as he listened to the Sautian. What else would she want from him? Not knowing what she was about to propose made him tense. He was nearly afraid to guess, but the idea of just meals seemed acceptable. He could at least do that much since he refused to take anything for free. Though he would love to save money, Cyril hated the idea of owing anyone. “You can’t sell yourself like that. Someone would think you had ulterior motives by doing things for free so at least ask for meals.” Especially in Yael. They were already superstitious and wary enough of foreigners. Doing anything for free would probably make any Yaeli think that they were out to murder them or something in the end. Not like he should care enough to advise her, but it truly didn’t settle well with the hybrid. “I suppose…if you enjoy performances then you can watch those for free as well while we travel.” They would perform if they needed funds here and there, after all. Even if Selim didn’t want to perform then he would at least. Ah, yes. Cyril realized something really crucial to the matter, his expression shifting as he thought about things. How would Selim feel about any of this? “That is if my traveling companion agrees to this. I’ll have to speak with him first.” His twin was a bit more agreeable when it came to socializing so this might be appealing to him, especially if it meant they had extra protection against whatever awaited them in the wilderness of Yael.
“You don’t need to sound so desperate to guard someone.” Cyril added. “Just prove that you’re capable enough and that we can rely on you. If so, then things will be fine.” Or the next town they visited would probably be a separation point. His gaze drifted towards the map on the table as he thought about the option. How much traveling would they need to do? He supposed it would just depend on how much information he gathered while they were in Pajore, however long that took.

The way Cyril acted dismissive but still offered advise and somewhat kind words made Zumei chuckle. He was a strange prickly man, but she was pretty used to keeping up with those who found her annoying or strange. Her own goals were really not as impressive - just going around and fighting the biggest things she could find around - so whatever Cyril offered she would accept. The idea of getting paid in food and performances was equally exciting considering his earlier comment of not doing them for free. Zumei did have to wonder if they had any big props they carried with them and how performers went about hauling them around without someone like her. "It's not desperation!" Zumei huffed, actually getting a little defensive at the comment. She wasn't desperate, definitely not. Just because she wanted to be a good guard didn't mean she was! She just wanted to be good at her job, obviously. "But I can prove that. Easy. What I lack in smarts I make up for with my muscles!"Zumei shifted in her seat to face Cyril more, holding out her hand. "So is this where we shake on it? Or do you write up a contract because you seem like the official sort that would do that."

Cyril frowned at the chuckle. He tried to ignore it, but it did make him bristle more like someone calling a hissing perzi cute despite its best efforts to be left alone. This was partly his fault for engaging with this stranger, wasn't it? So it was best to just accept that this could very well be his situation for a bit if Selim agreed to things. If anything he only had himself to blame for not trying to slip away earlier. But if his twin turned out to be against this then it would be simple enough to say his goodbyes and leave it at that. At least that was what Cyril told himself in some form of reassurance against his reckless actions here.
"Uh huh. Could have fooled me, but if you want to say that you're not desperate then so be it." Cyril replied before simply nodding at her muscular selling point. He would have to hope so since they would need someone who could beat up wild animals while on the road. What he had found out so far was leading them to a more remote village which could potentially lead to some sort of danger, if they did wander away from the main paths...if the Yaeli countryside even had roads. So far he had to wonder about such things, especially from such a backwards and suspicious lot.
"Is that so?" A contract, truly? Perhaps he was the type to do so but he didn't enjoy the idea of proving her right. "We'll just shake on it for now and we'll see how things go." Cyril replied finally as he looked at the hand, his fingers curling towards his palm as a final act of hesitation before he finally reached out to lightly take the fingers for a half-hearted shake. "As I said, I'll need to confirm with my traveling companion but if he's willing to accept another in our party then we'll meet here in the morning. I would suggest resting and if you haven't changed your mind after some sleep then I'll see you here with the rising sun."
