 laynpost eight"Okay, okay! Next one!" This was already so exciting and they'd barely begun! Layn scribbled down a couple of notes while handing a little pink bottle to his father.

 kauffpost nineKauff squinted at the bottle, pulled the cork and sniffed the liquid inside. It smelled sweet, like fruit, and when he drank it the smell intensified. Oranges.
He straightened, feeling like he was standing in the snow with no boots. Other than that, things were pretty normal.
"Okay, so I wasn't going to say anything, but that last one made me feel kind of... slow? And now I feel more like I always do with a little bit of umph, I guess. I bet this one would speed me up if I took it on its own."

Layn frowned, but it was more the scolding disapproval of a scientist than the pout of a child.
"You gotta tell me all the things! The numbing one isn't supposed to make you slow. Imagine if I didn't know about that!" He pat Kauff's arm. "How does it taste? Would you try it again once everything else wears off?"

He had only meant to tell a little lie so that Layn wouldn't feel bad, but now he realized he wasn't doing the kid any favors.
"It's fruity, not gross. And yeah... How about I let you know when everything's worn off and we can try again with that one?"

laynpost ten"It's okay!" Layn took back the little pink bottle and placed it with his other empties. "So you really think this one's fast? That's kind of what I'd hoped!" He wasn't sure how being faster than normal could help anyone, but at the very least it would be cool.

kauffpost elevenKauff nodded. "I do! It's really cool that a tiny little potion like that could make someone faster." Unlike his son, he could think of more than a couple of things it could be used for, all of them violent. He probably shouldn't tell Layn about any of that. "Good for... winning races. Though the person taking it shouldn't be too fast or it might be obvious something's up."

"Okay, this's next! Try not to sniff it too much. I think it smells pretty bad." He scrunched up his nose.

kauffpost twelveKauff nodded and did as he was told, but even though he avoided smelling the mixture directly, it definitely didn't taste great going down. He almost spit it out once it was on his tongue, but he powered through for Layn.
Once the flavor had passed, he stood still, arms slightly raised, waiting for something to happen. He bounced on his toes.
"You have any hints for me?" Kauff grinned. He wasn't really sure what he was supposed to be feeling.

laynpost twelveHmm. He should have known that Papa wouldn't be able to figure out what to expect without some sort of guidance. He wrote INSTRUCTIONS in a scrawl he wouldn't be able to read later and looked at his father's restless feet.

His arms flailed as his feet met the ground once more.

"So... um... my jump feels weird?" Kauff hopped again to demonstrate, but he got the feeling it didn't look any different than usual. "Like I don't land fast enough. This really is amazing."

laynpost fifteen"Yes! This one's s'posed to be flying! I didn't expect it to work for real, but floaty jumps are a good start." He took the bottle back and put it with the rest, taking a closer look at his stock.
"I think that's good for today, right? What do you think? I've got other stuff I've been working on, but they're not for drinking."
