Minke 8 Blinking quietly back at the upside down Hapuna, Minke took a while to respond back. He was considering his options even more than he was before, about what was the best means of escape. There had to be one. Maybe she was a bad runner. Even if she didn't look like it. He bet she was really good at running. She had walked down here, after all. He was sure there hadn't been any boats in the distance when he'd laid down and closed his eyes. He couldn't have possibly been out that long, right, for one to appear and drop her off.
"C-can you....Go, now? Please?"

Auli'i 9 "Oh." The Hapuna's eyes moved away from the hybrid, searching the sands around her body. She found a pretty shell and picked it up to hold in her lap, moving it around with her fingers to look at from all angles. A very pretty shell, with tiny spikes decorating the outer edges of the two toned spiral. The family had one sitting on the windowsill above their sink, a beautiful gift from the ocean. This one looked mostly intact, the only thing missing or broken from it a single spike in the midst of the others. The one back at home had a giant crack down the side of it, making it a horrible home for a creature. This one would make a wonderful home. It deserved to go back to the ocean.
Not saying another word, Auli'i rose to her feet and walked past the boy still laying on his back on the sand. Walked into the water until it was up to her knees, the edges of her skirt floating on the surface around her legs. She lowered herself down and gently placed the shell back on the ocean floor. "Why would I do that?" she asked while her back was still turned, watching the sway of the waves rock the shell on its ocean bed.

Minke 9 The lump against his back was almost too much to bear. Minke started to shift his body around more, trying in vain to shift it to a more comfortable, less painful part of him. Or, better yet, move it out from underneath him. Next time he decided to take a nap on the beach, he would place his shirt neatly beside him.
However, though his attention was partly now on his new task, his pale eyes still watched the Hapuna girl intently. Watching her for any quick movements. When she stood up and started to walk towards him, he started scooting his body towards the opposite side of her. His shirt edged out from under him. Finally relief. Even better, she was walking past him towards the sea. Was she about to leave him alone?
Minke stretched his back before sitting up slowly, allowing the blood to flow back down from his head and into his body. He watched her silently put the shell down into the water, noting the care she gave it. His opinion of her had begun to change when she spoke again. It once more started to sink.

Auli'i 10 A fish swam up towards Auli'i, darting around her legs, investigating the floating hem of her skirt. She crouched perfectly still, admiring the shining scales of its sides. She hoped the shell would be found quickly and provide many years of safety for its new inhabitant. She could stay here and wait for that to happen. It was tempting. Maybe the hybrid behind her would like to join her.
She turned around, standing up, pulling her long hair around one slender shoulder. "I like your company," she answered the unasked question lingering in his pale eyes. "Even if you don't talk much."

Minke 10 Minke suddenly felt a pit of dread forming in his stomach, rising up to his chest. She....Enjoyed his company? How was that possible when he'd done as much as possible to be quiet and boring so she'd leave. What awful thing had he done to make the Gods punish him so?
With a sigh, the hybrid picked up his shirt, unfurling it and putting it over his shoulders. He didn't bother to do it up. He rarely ever did. Why bother when he was more than likely going to fling it off to go into the ocean multiple times every day. Rain or shine.
"Fine...." was all the answer he gave, resigning himself for a day of dealing with his obnoxious girl.
