Though Soleiyu had an instinctive need to be right, but something about this felt like it was late.
He wondered, if she’d been stronger in the past, if there was more that she could have done. If he’d been with her when she needed him back then, would things have been different?
Truthfully, he didn’t know what had happened. Those weren’t memories he’d ever touched on. They might never be within his reach.
He did know that there were others that had been stronger, that had lost their powers and still been helpless.
Even if things had been different in the past, more power didn’t mean that it would have changed things. He pressed his head against her while she cried.
“It’s okay, Ersa. You don’t have to thank me. You’ve come this far, yourself. Let’s see how much further we can go together.”

Ersa nodded and wiped her face again, drawing away after the crying had finally stopped. He made sense. And she had come this far on her own…all that Soleiyu had done was help her unlock the power…she had been the one to earn it…so…
So maybe that meant she really did deserve it. Really did deserve to be stronger…and that they really could go further together…and that…
She could save her home…
Too little, too late maybe but…
It wasn’t too late to think about the future…and if she could go live up there once again…maybe…
Maybe that was what needed to be done. Maybe that was her place.
No, that would be her place. Where she belonged.
“I…am excited to see where we can go together, Soleiyu. Thank you…thank you for simply being my friend once again…”
