Elias 8

"It's alright. No harm done."

Elias continued to smile warmly, waiting for the tenseness to release in Minke's shoulders and for him to smile slowly back. Not as wide as he was, but wide enough that Elias didn't feel like a burden on the other hybrid. He marvelled sometimes at Minke. He didn't really have the face you would associate with someone super shy or as filled with anxiety over everything as he was. Of the two, Elias looked the younger, with his naturally large eyes giving him a boyish appearance. When Minke's face was resting, when he wasn't worried about anything, he looked thoughtful. Like he was always deep in conversation with himself over something. Not the type to stammer, apologize, and jump at the slightest touch to his shoulder.

"So did you want me to walk back with you?"

Minke 9

"It's....Um...S-sure."

But it didn't feel that way. He was always forgetting about others, being too selfish in his own desires. All that mattered to him was he got to leave and return to the ocean. The ocean always calmed him down. The ocean didn't make him nervous. Even when something big and unknown came swimming towards him, Minke never felt all that afraid. He knew if he remained calm and didn't appear threatening, most creatures wouldn't hurt him. People were much the same way. He saw this in how his sister and Elias handled strangers, always friendly and polite and relaxed. But for whatever reason, Earthlings and Kahi alike both made him feel like a tiny animal staring a predator straight in the face, too afraid to run away. Aishans were even worse. Thank the Gods he hadn't yet had to experience even seeing one of those tall women. A race entirely composed of warriors, trained to fight from a young age, was just utterly terrifying to him. He'd rather face the largest shark in the ocean than that.

"I was just...Going to....In the ocean...." He felt so awkward when he stuttered this much. More so when the other hybrid continued to smile like everything was fine at him.

Elias 9

"Oh! Wonderful. I could go for a swim, myself."

Now it was his turn not to pay attention to his friend, darting forward in his excitement for exercise. Though he had calmed down in verbal energy, the energetic boy who would spend hours outside swinging his toy sword around was still alive. Elias loved nothing less than to spend his time doing sword drills in an open area, be it an empty room of the house or the back yard. When he wasn't doing that, he could be found jogging or swimming or doing errands in town for his mother. Anything he could to get up and moving. Sitting still was so difficult. At least he had long since stopped knocking his sister's books onto the floor. Mostly helped by the fact they no longer had to share a room. He could knock his own stuff over as much as he pleased.

Minke 10

He didn't move to follow, just continued to stand there in his pulled up hood getting pushed around his face by the wind. Minke could easily feel the rocks underneath his thin sandals, feel every breeze on his skin. Fully aware of everything around him and inside of him. Of the growing guilt starting in his belly and fast clenching at his chest. Nothing felt okay. Maybe Elias was just projecting that. Maybe he was regretting following Minke to the festival when he so easily tried to leave the other boy behind when he could finally leave and cut ties with the place.

He sighed deeply, pulling in a great lungful of air before letting it out slowly, wishing he could attach every single negative thought to his breath and expel it from his body.

Elias 10

It took a while for Elias to realize he was currently alone. Once the initial excitement of a dip in the ocean was starting the fade, he looked to his left, than his right, expecting to see the other hybrid beside him. No one was there. He looked behind him to see Minke standing in the distance, arms still hugging his chest in a stance Elias knew all too well. It was something he'd seen often growing up, when the two boys were together with their sisters, a small pack of younglings digging in the sand between their two houses. He crossed the distance, arms swinging relaxed at his sides, the soft smile back on his face. He hoped one day his old friend would become more relaxed in his presence.

"It's okay, Minke," he said quietly, as if he was a frightened animal that would bolt at the slightest loud noise. "It really is. There's no rush. You're doing fine." He held out his hand, not expecting it to be taken, but using it to beckon his friend to follow him to the water just beyond their vision.
