8/10 Laughing was good! Laughing was much better than a look of disdain or disappointment. The last thing he expected, though, was for her to offer to drink together. That - was a recipe for disaster, but he wouldn't tell HER that. He'd just... make sure not to drink too much, so that she could enjoy herself without worry.
He didn't react badly at her question; if anything, he puffed up a bit at the mention of his brother, smiling. "Yeah, he's my best friend. We thought about it, for sure. But... when we left our family to travel, I just - I wanted to try going my own way, for once."
Honestly, he probably would've gone with Siel, if he hadn't been so determined to go to Jauhar to learn more about their alkidike heritage. In the end, he was grateful, because he probably wouldn't have met Kani.
"Maybe I will, someday! But not until I feel more steady on my own two feet. You know what I mean?"

Having been the one that people relied on for a very long time, Kani knew what he meant in a way. For so long she had been caretaker for her father and brother, and so she didn't know what it was like to go her own way. Her whole journey since leaving had been figuring just that, and while she was surprised to where it had led her, she was also pleased that she had managed it this far. Though a large part of her being so successful was because of Morain. "I understand that. Being able to show that you can manage on your own, or without having to worry about others or have others worrying over you....it's nice. I spent a long time thinking that I was really only good for caring for others," she admitted, expression darkening at the thought of it now. She'd really thought that everyone was only out for their own gain. "So deciding to do something for myself, be with someone that I picked instead of what was expected." There she went rambling again.
"I just mean uh...well I don't know," Kani laughed, rubbing a hand through her curls. "I get it though. Not always sticking to your family."

(9/10) Right. Morain turned his focus to her completely, intrigued. She had never dodged his questions, but they'd also carefully danced around her background. She said she was alone, just her and her familiar... that she'd never traveled on her own before. That she'd hesitated over asking about Siel suggested some conflict in her family life that he had absolutely no frame of reference for.
This was new information, which he greedily held on to. And... he tried not to feel TOO giddy at how she phrased it. Being with someone. They weren't like that (were they?), but it still felt nice to be thought of as a unit, collectively. "What I'm hearing is, 'Yes Morain-'" He affected a higher pitched tone to his words, not imitating her so much as imitating a faux-feminine voice, "Let's enjoy ourselves and get some drinks and tour the next town, we need a vacation before we get some work!' ... Is that right?"

Kani pouted and bumped Morain with her elbow, letting out a huff of a laugh as she rolled her eyes at him. His words eased the tension she was feeling once more, her focus moving away from her family and back to him. She did want to go have fun and take a little vacation before finding work - he was right about that. Nothing too serious had to happen so soon, and considering their desires to wander and explore he didn't seem to mind either. "Yes. Yes that is correct! We deserve a vacation," Kani smiled, looping her arm into his. "Let's enjoy ourselves to the fullest then!"

(10/10) It wasn't that he didn't want serious conversations with Kani. It was more that... he didn't like that dark look on her face, the conflicted look that made her beautiful face tense and stressed. If he could offer a bit of levity instead, then he would do so. And, sure enough, her expression lightened and she even laughed! He beamed at her, then felt his face heat up when she looped their arms together. Nonetheless, he squeezed her arm back, and continued to walk.
