Ergon's grip tightened on the spoon at the reminder of the visitor from earlier, his jaw betraying the twitch of anger as it clenched. One didn't even need to raise their head to be able to look down on those kinds of people... even though he had once been one of them himself. He could remember the flavor in his own mind, and it just added to the constant sourness in his belly as of late.

But hey, it was something else to focus on. "No.. Not all of them, no." He stirred his soup idly to keep his hands busy. "Many are much calmer than that.. that flavor. You have simply been lucky enough to run into some of the more outspoken ones." Simply. As if there was anything simple about the matter. His gaze flicked up to soften a hair as it settle on his niece. "Are you alright?"

Every time Yngvara encountered someone of their ilk she was reminded of Snowelle. She'd been naive then; a child who foolishly thought that the person her Uncle was introducing her too would show kindness and empathy. Instead she'd been met with cruelty based on her blood, not her character, and try as she might Yngvara couldn't push it out of her mind.

She tried to be the bigger person, truly she did, but some things left a mark.

"...It's ironic that they think my father is the feral is one." She jabbed another bite of stew meat and chewed on it as she simmered. Reminding herself why she was here, though, calmed Yngvara some. "I know my worth. If I needed the validation of a woman who thinks her trash worth a King's sum then I'd be all the poorer for it."

It was tempting to snark about the girl's father, but Ergon managed to behave. That man was odd, to say the least; but, he made his family happy. One couldn't argue that in the slightest.

He inhaled slowly as he pushed his own anger aside. "That is a good view to have," he agreed. He had grown up far too worried about what others though. It was how he'd been raised. It was still important to him, but he had discovered that there were some things that mattered more than the views of social peers. He looked at Yngvara for a long moment, and finally cleared his throat. "For whatever it is worth to you... I appreciate having you as my niece." Though he wanted to duck his gaze back down, he held it firmly up to make it clear that he meant what he'd said. Out loud. With his words. Straight to her...

Yngvara wasn't expecting the heartfelt confession, and the shock of it caused the girl to still. Even if she knew her Uncle cared hearing him say it was something special and when she smiled it was as pure as the spring day sun. More so when she looked to him, and he didn't back down.

"It's...Thank you, Uncle. For what it's worth, I'm grateful to have you and I appreciate what you've endured for me." Getting upset at a customer was one thing, but facing his mother over a niece from a sister his father had sired with someone else? That spoke volumes. And then, for added measure, Yngvara added, "Familien din elsker deg og du er ikke alene. Vi tar vare på deg til du kan ta vare på deg selv."

As far as she was concerned there was a chain. Reaghan was cared for by his parents, her mother was helping to care for Iriyana and the house and Yngvara....she had Ergon. And she was just fine with that.

Any misgivings Ergon may have had for revealing such emotions were blown away by the power of that rare and brilliant smile. With the returned sentiment, his own lips managed to curve with a contented smile. He certainly hadn't expected such a relationship to come from this. Perhaps.. well, opening up to one family member on that side was plenty for now.

He couldn't help the blank look he gave her before it broke with an amused chuckle. "I told you I am not good with the language yet," he berated lightly. Though he couldn't understand it, the tone it was spoken with told him what he needed to know. Perhaps he would one day understand the words without needing help. For now, he would just let himself enjoy this brief moment of light in the darkness surrounding his mind.
