Julian flashed a quick smile but he was certain that the darkness all but erased it. He didn’t comment on the open invitation. It was kind, but he wasn’t so bold. Hillworth wasn’t so bad. And his parents might be around any day now, he didn’t want to miss them.
He pressed his tongue to his teeth and bit it lightly as he fumbled with the flashlight he’d been given. When Luke illuminated his own, he was quick to mimic him. He kept his flashlight trained on the ground so they could see, partly to grant Luke the freedom to look around and partly because he wasn’t even sure he wanted to see whatever it was that they were going to find down there.
…Of course, they’d be alone. He’d half hoped that a police officer might have tried to shoo them away, or that there was some sort of tour going on.
It was just them.
“Oh, I–I don’t think we should touch them!” he said, looking at Luke with visible worry. Even in the dim light he could make out Luke’s face and he hoped he didn’t look too panicked. He couldn’t even tell if Luke was teasing. “You said we didn’t have to do anything dangerous. Anything that glows could be dangerous! Poisonous, or radioactive…”
Or magic.

Luke hesitated for a moment and then with an inward sigh, he looked at Julian and gave a grin. “How about we head to get food then? There’s nothing really that cool here, but we came, so now we can definitely claim clout for it! I’d…suggest we take a selfie but it wouldn’t really show anything but darkness so…not the best of ideas really.”
His stomach took the next moment which might have been an awkward silence and rumbled almost loud enough to echo in here.
“...Oh my god. Uh. Yeah. I think that means my stomach agrees with the idea of food…what do you say?”

“Yes,” Julian blurted, and while he was usually very reserved he thought he could sacrifice that if it meant getting out of here. Especially because he heard something move. Something fluttery, something scrapey. His heart was in his throat and he took a hesitant step back. He wasn’t going to leave Luke but he didn’t know what was his imagination and what was real.
Although, it was dark enough that he could have powered up if there was trouble, but…
Better to avoid it altogether.
“If–If you want to come back later, we can. Maybe–when the sun is up…”
Not that it would help them see much down here, but…
Maybe it would be less creepy, anyway.

“We’ll see! It’s not really as exciting as I thought it would be so…this honestly should be enough for me!”
He would just come back as Lisse, that was all. He could handle himself as a Page and wouldn't have to drag anyone else along with him, and poor Julian wouldn’t be so freaked out…it would all work out.
“Thank you for coming down with me, I know you really didn’t want to, but I do appreciate the company…I’m not sure I would have been brave enough to go on my own!”
He reached out an linked arms with Julian, trying to bestow some comfort and reassurance as he walked back up and out of the graveyard. “And now we’re super cool explorers! We deserve a treat!”
