The bird heard Ethe's plan, just as it heard Faustite's. Already it gave one warning, but that warning was discarded by these two. Thus did it swoop from its new perch, aiming low, and pecked at Ethe's right head a few times for suggesting such an insulting plan. As soon as it had pecked the dastardly dog, it was off again, ascending to one of the many branches of an established pine.
"Don't burn the place down," it repeated.
"Then give me back the ring, you piece of s**t." Faustite summoned his weapon to hand once again and briefly considered it. It didn't look at all aerodynamic for throwing, nor did it seem helpful for chopping through tree trunks. He couldn't sort out that it had any legitimate purpose, for even in the fight with Cybele, killing her with it seemed like a lucky shot. Giving up on the weapon, he dismissed it once again.
"Getting held up by a ******** bird," he huffed up at the tree, then shook his head. "You alright?" Getting pecked in the head can't have felt good.
"Could burn the place down anyway, or give it the earrings from that couple as trade." At least, those were the options that came to mind.
What the ******** kind of bird spoke like that, though? And what was it doing, hanging around a place like this? Faustite was beginning to wonder if this was one of the myriad oddities that cropped up whenever there was a holiday afoot.

Ethe was too quick to ressuggest fire and the raven was having none of it. “Hey! It was the left one that suggested it! Attack the right head, you stupid vulture! The right head snapped its jaws at the bird as it swooped in. “We’re fine. But we think we should try your suggestion lest it try again. We can’t stand to loose another eye.”The right head sighed while the left head continued to track the bird. ✧

Being around Albite for so long had imparted upon Faustite at least enough sense to keep his mouth shut. His impulse was to ask why Ethe wanted to avoid losing another eye, for they had three. They only needed one to see, and two for depth perception. But that was better asked about another time.
Looking up at the tree, he decided to try the bargaining route, since the damned thing seemed so averse to a little cemetery burning. Hopefully the bird was trustworthy enough to make do with a trade. If not, they were absolutely burning the place down.
"Ring's mine. Take these instead." Faustite pulled the earrings from subspace, where they sat lightly in his palm. He tossed them high into the air, high enough that the bird could catch them without worry of interference.
When they reached the zenith of their arc, the bird left its roost to catch them. It had no words for the interlopers in its cemetery, instead dropping the ring from its talons. Immediately it dove for a tree much farther from the pair, as if expectant that they would try to blast it out of the sky. It did, however, squawk irritably at them.
But Faustite didn't care. He was already trotting forward, already picking up his ring off the ground. After blowing off some of the pine needles and flecks of dirt, he reseated it on his finger. "******** finally," he breathed.
"That was a massive waste of time, but we got what we came for. Help yourself to the girl's starseed, if you want. Think we can say she died of fright."

Ethe watched as the bird effortlessly caught the earrings mid-air. “Well, ain’t that a neat trick. We’d be willing to loose an eye if we could fly like that.”Earth sure did have some fascinating creatures! “Roasted bird would have been nice, but a starseed will more than satisfy.”It would be a waste to eat such a clever bird. “What is that ring to you? It’s got a bit of another’s scent on it.”✧

"Might get more power someday. Be able to fly." Greater youma existed that could do as much. Youma gained strength as their officers gained rank, as well. Might not have to lose an eye to get there.
He looked over at the inquiring youma when the question was posed. Made sense to ask about it, but he wasn't certain how to answer. What made sense to a person didn't always make sense to a youma, and explaining such human sentiments as the construct of marriage was often tricky when he posed it to a denizen of the Rift. Ethe was smart, and wise in a way that few youma were, so they might catch on with little issue. Or, as was often the case in the Rift, Faustite would come off sounding weak and exploitable.
"Came from someone I care about." He looked at the ring for himself, spreading his fingers to isolate it. "Represents a promise to each other. Doubt it's easily replaced; anything I wear needs to withstand heat."

“They must be a good person then if you wanted the ring back.”Ethe understood caring, though they tended to view love in terms of possession or loyalty. “A representation of a promise is best kept like the promise.”✧

Good person. It wasn't that he thought Taenite was a bad person, or that he thought of any of his husbands in the context of good or bad. He was used to the 'good' and 'bad' that the White Moon invented and ascribed to their collective actions, sometimes to their simple affiliation with the Negaverse, and such a concept was so ubiquitous and forcefully pushed that it rankled him to simply hear the words anymore. It wasn't that Taenite was good or bad, virtuous or evil, but that he could be terribly sweet when he put his mind to it, and he cared, and he had a dreadfully attractive flippancy once Faustite puzzled it out enough to understand that Taenite wasn't always trying to piss him off.
He liked Taenite because Taenite was Taenite, and if he was any less Taenite, then he wouldn't be the same person that Faustite liked. But that wasn't explanatory for anyone, even Albite.
"He's a sweet boy. Let you meet him someday, but you'd likely want to rip his face off. Negaverse senshi." That old animosity couldn't be helped. Even Faustite felt it like a grating undercurrent — some dichotomous thing that simply became a part of him.
"Take us back, then. Before any senshi start sniffing around." Before one of the Royals, like Ganymede, found them and decided to prematurely end Ethe's existence.
