Oh, that was a question worth panicking about. Were they hard? If he said yes, then he might look like a bad student. If he said no and Luke was struggling, he might look arrogant. He clammed up instead.
For a few seconds he stared at Luke and then his mind seemed to snap back into the present. “Oh–yeah, sure. Um, just a second.”
He had to lean over his bed and pull out a neatly organized, but somewhat beaten up, binder. He opened it to the front page and his schedule was neatly placed in the pocket behind the cover.
“Here,” he said, and laid it out so they could compare. He was so nervous that he read the first few lines over without processing them so he pressed his lips together and was ready to fake it. “It’s, um–I mean, I think they’re just pretty average. Easier if you study. Some of the teachers are really strict.” Well, all of his had been so far. Luke just seemed like he was trying to make the best of this and he didn’t want to ruin any of his wishful thinking or jinx him.

Luke grinned and put the schedules side by side, nodding eagerly. “We share three classes, that’s good at least! We’ll be able to help one another, I like that!”
Plus, they were relatively good classes. He loved English, and having someone he knew in there…hopefully Jason would be there too, but…he’d find that out later. “I absolutely hate Algebra, or the sound of it so I hope that we can figure it out together, and Biology…will be interesting. I took it last year in Bailey but…I guess the school didn’t feel that was good enough? Oh well. Hopefully that’ll mean I can help us muddle through it well enough, and English, that’s the best thing besides music, I think.”
Handing back Julian’s schedule, he gave a contented sigh. “So…that’s that, then? Should we go try to find things to buy? Are…we allowed to leave campus? Like, school hasn’t officially started so if you think we are, I’m perfectly ready to.”

Julian leaned over just a bit so that he could see their schedules as well and nodded along as Luke went over their schedules. He accepted his schedule and tucked it back in place with great care.
“Oh–right now? I mean…there’s no curfew right now, but…”
He faltered for a moment, because even if he’d intended to just take an easy day today, he really wanted to make a good impression with his roommate. “We can go now. My afternoon is free.”
He just hoped this meant they were off to a good start.
He didn’t want to mess this up.
