"I'm sorry," she murmured.

Asking questions was the gentlest she could be when it came to trying to get people to think. She would never, ever come to blows. She shied away from making demands. She asked things, with genuine curiosity, but she still had to be so, so careful. Sometimes her word choice was wrong, or the way she moved her face, or her tone.

That was something that caught up with her outside of these tense situations, too. She wasn't a natural at speaking the way that some people were, or at getting her intentions across.

She was getting better, but then wen you added Chaos to the mix, there would always be someone who saw her as condescending, awful, maybe even something worse.

She carried her scars from those people.

"I was just curious, what you knew."

She heard a noise behind her, and saw the woman shift. She was not awake, not yet, but Pendour could see it happening soon. She thought that of all of the situations that she could wake up too, two people arguing about cosmic entities might have been one of the more jarring options.

Slowly, Pendour raised herself back up to her feet.

"If she's waking now, then I can be on my way."

Since she felt that it was either going to be both of them sitting with her, or neither, she could be the one to trigger their leaving. She would just have to see if the General would follow. She took a few steps away, then stopped again to watch him.

She knew there was still a chance he might linger, or try something just to get under her skin.

"I liked getting to talk to you, though," she said, and she meant that. It was always a blessing when interactions could be peaceful like this.

Rakovanite did not grace her apology with a response. He'd spoken with enough of her kind to have the gist of their opinions toward people like him. Some thought they were evil and twisted and needed to be stopped; they didn't agree with killing, but it was an acceptable sacrifice to murder those of the Negaverse if it stopped Metallia's influence. Hypocrites.

And then there were those like Pendour. Calm and gentle. Doing everything in their power to be reasonable when faced with the unruly, distorted minds of those under Chaos' influence. Agents were tortured and misguided and in desperate need of someone pure to save them. Knights like Pendour shielded their sanctimonious attitudes by a veneer of kindness. It was disgusting how many people fell for it. He wouldn't believe it if it didn't happen right under his nose.

The hypocrites and the liars: each equally terrible. He would not trust them no matter how gently or quietly they spoke. Perhaps that was just the nature of war.

He glanced back to the woman, shuffling softly where she lay, warning that she was likely to see them if they lingered.

Maybe he would've told Pendour that it wouldn't hurt to know more of Metallia, but it caused Rakovanite no great distress to only have what he had. He might have told her that he didn't need anything because his motives were purely selfish, and he'd always been upfront about that. Because it simply didn't matter what Metallia's origins were or what she wanted copious amounts of energy and starseed for. If she was simply an insatiable predator (which was his guess), that was fine. If she wanted to nuke the very fabric of reality and upend every universe, so be it.

It simply did not matter to him at all.

He just knew he would be a part of it; he wouldn't be on the sidelines. He wouldn't fight for something that saw no value in him.

But there was no point in saying as much to Pendour. There was hardly reason to say anything at all to her, and Rakovanite had already done that much. He'd achieved what he came her to do and had wasted enough of his time on idle chatter with someone he would wholly prefer be dead.

So he said nothing. She took a few steps away, and he'd teleported before she even looked back.
