He backed off then, giving Serr some room while quietly rocking his sleeping son. But the silent sharing of space didn't last, and it wasn't long before Kauff was peering at the clinic's entrance. Xariy hadn't been in there for more than a few minutes. There was probably time. He caught Serr's eye and looked down at Layn.
"Do you want to hold him?"

"Really?" Serr swallowed. "I've never held a baby before." No... well... there had been that one time. And the other one. "Recently."

He nodded, his smile remaining as he kept his eye on everything.

serrpost tenSerr settled the baby's head into the crook of his elbow and eventually started to bounce him a bit. He hadn't doubted that this would be the easier part, but he hadn't thought it would be quite this kind of fun. The child wasn't even his, yet Serr found his little eyelashes and clenched fists the height of entertainment.
"Cute."

Kauff smiled as Layn tried to kick his swaddled feet, probably dreaming about something way more interesting than being a baby. "If you're worried about the healer, you should just ask if she's as worried as you. I guarantee she already knows how she feels about everything."
Kauff glanced at the clinic door then reached for his son. "Here, give him back. Just in case."
