(8/10) Immediately dipping into machinating a farce of a scene felt like a move straight out of his mother's playbook, but he couldn't find it in himself to mind it, if it meant preventing his tongue from burning bridges. When Zadia pinched him and refused, he shot her a look, distantly proud of her for not dropping to his level, but also feeling frantic that she wasn't playing along. Maybe he was senile, if the instant gratification of insulting people meant more to him than keeping the peace?
He didn't know the dark space his daughter's mind had gone, but he did feel she'd gone a little pale, so he forced his mind to settle. Put it neatly in a box, stomped it closed, and shoved it in the darkest recesses of his brain to examine later.
"A bit of liquid courage would not go awry." He drawled back, though he still made a face. He had grown fond of the more... delicate wines from Belrea, and going back to ale or, heavy forbid, the berry liqueurs he was used to from Tale didn't sound appetizing.

Maybe that's what they both needed; a little bit of hard, tasteless liquor to bury any worry. Or better yet, swile so vile that even Ujana wouldn't touch it. Her barbaric sister's appetite was something that made Zadia question the presence of deities so if Ujana could find peace in her travels then surely so could they.
Acquiring their meal was a painless affair. It was ladled out into bowls that was placed on a serving tray and when she asked after the ale two massive, chipped steins was placed onto the tray as well. The added weight nearly buckled her thin wrist, but Zadia bore the discomfort. Whatever it took to get through these next few days....
She made her way over toward her father and sat the tray down with about as much grace as one could in her circumstance. At least nothing spilled. "I've been thinking; we need to contact Lioe once we make landfall. Depending on what state Isaia is in and the search for mother we might be gone for a while. I know Ygraine and Asa agreed to watch after Marcella, but she can stay with Lioe too."
Not that she'd asked her brother if he was okay with it, mind you, but family needed family whether he admitted it or not. Having each other around would be good for the siblings especially little Marcie.

(9/10) Uquin sat, and though he wanted to help his daughter (after all, she looked exhausted and likely hadn't slept), he would listen to her suggestion with minimal complaint. He did watch her though, and when she returned and set down the loaded tray he pulled his stein closer first, taking a careful sip.
To his credit, he didn't cough or make a face, but he did, after a lengthy moment, clear his throat before taking another drink. It wasn't the worst thing he'd ever had, but it was definitely ... not his usual taste. What mattered was the warmth that sat in his stomach. "I also sent a letter to Padma before we left." He added, contemplating the broth rather than drinking it. "I think you're right. If Lioe can watch Marcella, then either we will be home with Isaia or... Padma will get there in a few weeks."
Of course, even if she left the moment she got the letter, that was a long trip to Matori from Tale, the voyage on the ship - then travel to the city, so Lioe was still the best person to watch her. Marcella wasn't a little child anymore, of course, but she was still young.
The alternative, of course, was having the school board her, but Maritza hadn't wanted that to happen when she went back to work, and if she returned home to see he'd done so the moment she was missing, she'd literally murder him.

Oh, good. What was Padma supposed to do? Unleash her husband on the sea itself and watch him fight fish while everyone else continued their search? Watch yourself. Her tongue had already gotten her into enough trouble today and the morning had barely begun. Zadia was just lucky she hadn't blurted that tidbit aloud.
After a moment's contemplation she relented and nodded. At the very least her older sister's needed to be told. "How do we reach Ujana? We could send a letter to her...wife? lover?...Ariya and hope she gets it." As far as she knew Ujana had never gotten married in the earthling sense and anything Aishan was beyond her. Was Ujana even on Tendaji or was she still roaming Belrea?
Now that she had her meal Zadia just stared at it, as if the broth would magically disappear into her stomach. Instead, she reached for the ale and gave it a test sip. While it wasn't nearly as bad as she'd imagined, Zadia couldn't see herself going back for more. "Do you have any contacts in Matori that could help?"

(10/10) Zadia went strangely silent for a moment, so he lifted his gaze to her, watching until she finally nodded. She was too much like him, in that he could practically hear the gears turning, but he could never fathom actually asking her what she was thinking. As for Ujana... Uquin finally sighed and instead of answering took a drink of the broth. It was fine. He grudgingly agreed with the Geian man that it was just 'fine'. "Well. If I want to talk to Ujana, I typically tell Padma and Eurig and eventually it trickles to her."
Then again, that was also how he'd told her about her new triplet siblings all that time ago, and by the time she heard about it she was... conflicted. So it wasn't the BEST method.
"No." Was the blunt, simple answer to the next question, and he punctuated it with another long drink from his stein.
