Personality: Her name meant ‘fearless beauty’, and Abhi definitely lived up to it. There was no challenge she wouldn’t meet head on, no dare she’d not accept without a single thought. And if perhaps it seemed dangerous, all the better. She lived her life fiercely, freely, and in the moment.
Headstrong, she refuses to easily give up on her ideas or to easily allow others to deter her from her course, a trait which has been a double-edged sword. The one trait which lead her to the dark path she now walks down willingly.
Free spirited she tends to sashay through life with a saunter, and to an easy tempo of her choosing- at least unless, or until, she is required to act according to her nature and training.
But the one thing she will not risk – not ever- is excessive collateral damage, or injury to any who might be deemed innocent, a fact that was cemented when as a young mare, midway through her training, her actions could have led to the injury or death of one who did not deserve it, so she stepped in at the last possible moment, nearly losing her eye. At least she got a cool scar and an interesting story to tell from it.
History:
Orphaned as a young foal, Abhi was found by a group of mercenaries. They left her alone, for the most part, treating her with benign neglect, forcing her to grow up quickly, and learn how to fend for herself. Until they figured out how to use her to their advantage. She learned to lie, cheat, steal and kill… whatever it took, and whatever was needed at the time. Whatever made her valuable to them, because the more value one had, the better their life would be. This was not the world she had been born into, but it was the one she knew. And she knew she would be the best, and she would have the best life, no matter what it took, so long as it did not go against her (admittedly) few morals.
And though it was hard, she worked her way up through the ranks, she achieved her ambitions young, though it took a lot of effort to keep. But she wasn’t afraid of a little hard work, or of hard choices. As the scar she bore on her face as a badge of honor could attest.
Prompt: The summer nights are warm, and the sky is a blanket of stars. With your weapon by your side, you're on the move. There are rumors of usnavory sorts in the area, but that doesn't stop you. Where are you going?
What are you doing? Are you part of those unsavory bands or are you there to help guard the innocent, or are you doing something else? What does this night have in store for you?
Abhi was restive. The days had been too hot and muggy, preventing travelers and merchants from going to and from, severely limiting the exchange of goods and services between villages and herds. Making her own job nigh on impossible, and survival became more than a little difficult. And while the villages and herd had not yet begun to feel much of a hit in the lack, Abhi and the rest of her band had certainly started to notice. And the weather didn’t look like it would turn or change any time soon. It was this that had led to the begging of desperation, and to the desperate plan that had brought them to this.
It was their best chance to survive, as none of them wanted to leave if they didn’t have to. They were well set up here, and no one wanted to go through what it would take to move and become established in a new place.
Her hand brushed along the cool pommel stone, and the supple, if worn, leather wrapping of the hilt. The sword at her side was a comforting weight, and her actions were enough to ground her in the moment. It was too hot during the day to travel, so most merchants and others had taken to traveling at night. So that was when they would go out and ambush their targets. Take what they needed to survive. Because that was the way of things. And if it was necessary, they would take what was needed at sword point.
There. That was their next target. Abhi looked for her accomplices. She gestured to the approaching merchant caravan and nodded, loosening her sword in its scabbard, preparing to make her charge, but waiting for everyone to be in their places. Less mess and fuss that way. Seeing the others’ assent as they all but melted away into the shadows, she knew it was now time.
Here goes nothing.
