Xariy was always charmed by how much of a dad Kauff had become. The two of them had been messy and reckless, but now as parents she thought they were doing pretty okay. At least the kids had all their fingers and weren't running around with no clothing on. That had to count for something. She was going to count it. "I think that's a great idea. Spending time in town and getting something to eat sounds like the perfect way to spend the day with you. I'm sure the kids would be thrilled to have some new toys too. Ones that we pick just for them that they don't have to share," Xariy suggested, wandering towards the door.

Kauff shook his head as he followed. "You just reminded me of something I'd buried so deep. I had this little wooden capramel and a little cart for it to pull, and my sisters used to take them from me all the damn time. They didn't even play with them, they just hid them in spots they knew I'd get in trouble for being in." He chuckled. "It's not a bad memory, just... stupid kid things. Needless to say, I agree with the kids having more stuff they don't have to share." Even though their interests were already quite varied, it was nice to feel special. He stepped outside and stretched in the midday sun. "Shall we?"

Xariy smiled and grabbed hold of Kauff's arm, walking casually with him through the streets to find the toyshop. She was content to just idly walk, not in any hurry other than eventually reaching their goal. Since the kids had entered the picture they hadn't had as much time to themselves, which wasn't bad given time to themselves had been the factor for said kids, but it was nice to wander and enjoy each other's company without having to watch over the two kiddos. "I think both of them have already set themselves apart from the other, but I agree, I think showing them that we know they're different and get them things to their interest is good for the two of them. I know I would have preferred it if my parents had gotten me things I was interested in instead of what they wanted to get," Xariy replied, looking left and right as she attempted to spot the building.

"There," Kauff said, pointing at a two-story building up ahead. A few months ago it had been a bakery, but the business must not have been profitable because it had since been abandoned. "I think." He shrugged. "I heard the place she's using is green and that's the only empty green building I could think of."He approached the door, elbow still crooked for Xariy to hold if she was so inclined, and peered through the crack between it and the frame, his suspicions confirmed when he saw what was inside. "Yeah. This is the place." Every inch of the interior of the temporary shop was lined with toys of every type, from blocks to plush animals. "What do you want to look at first?"

Xariy kept her hand comfortably on the crook of his elbow as he pointed out the shop, and smiled wide at the overabundance of cute toys she could see from the outside. She eagerly tugged Kauff inside with her, taking another moment to simply look at all of the things they could possibly get for the kids. "Well, we should think. What would Layn and Linnea like? Obviously something animal related for Linnea. Layn has been trying to sneak around a lot as of late, but I'm not so sure his heart is in that one. Have you noticed anything?" She questioned, worried that she was being a bad parent by not knowing.

Kauff shook his head, watching a tiny, mechanical princess spring to life as another patron opened the lid of her music box. He'd seen plenty of these over the years, but this one was way more intricate than anything he was familiar with. In his day, the little figures had twirled slowly in one spot while a tinkling loop of music accompanied them, but this girl paced back and forth in her lovingly crafted bedroom, carrying a teapot from her teddy bears to the table and back again. "Definitely an animal for Linnea." He had never thought he would meet another person who enjoyed the company of poscutas as much as he did. Of course that person would be his daughter. "But I haven't noticed Layn leaning toward anything either. All I know for sure is that he has a lot of energy." Kauff laughed. "More than I know what to do with sometimes. Maybe we could get something that would burn that off? But something safe. All I can think of are things that would get him in trouble."

"Definitely something safe. But burning a lot of energy....I don't know what would do that. Maybe a jump rope? No....he doesn't seem the type. I could get him more weapons, but I don't really think he wants more," Xariy said slowly, glancing at different odds and ends in the store. She felt terrible that she knew immediately what Linnea would want and not Layn, and worried that she was not paying as much attention as she should have been. "I should have talked to him more. Maybe I'm a bad parent," she continued to huff out, thoroughly concerned by it.

"What? No. I mean, if you are, then I am too?" He turned to face Xariy, taking her hands in his and squeezing them. "Some kids change a lot. Or they like a bunch of things." Maybe. Now he was starting to doubt himself as well. "We could try nudging him in a direction? He might not know what he's looking for either."Kauff thought of himself as a boy, running around the wastes hitting things. "I never did. I just happened to like what was expected of me."

"Maybe something to keep his hands occupied then? Something that he can be creative with?" Xariy offered, wandering over to a low table and glancing over several items sprawled out across it. There were little shovel sets, fishing sets, all sorts of childlike toys and gear to help with special interest. There was a little bottle set that looked interesting that she wandered over to, pointing it out to Kauff as she went. "Maybe this? Has he said anything about wanting to mix things up? Like a little scientist or something."

Kauff chuckled. "Yeah, imagine that." If Layn did end up doing science stuff one day, it would make their family get togethers very entertaining. "I could see him being interested in something like this. It'll give him focus. And if he doesn't stick with it, we can use the little bottles for something else.""So... one down?"

"Resourceful! I like it. I do hope he likes it and we aren't incredibly off the mark," Xariy chuckled, picking up the set and holding it closer before anyone else tried to purchase it themselves. She thought the little bottles were cute, but she also wasn't very good at science. Stealing, absolutely. Science, definitely not. Belrea had been interesting that way. All science. "So what are you thinking for Linnea?"

"She's always loved a stuffed animal, and this place is full of them. But since we're getting Layn a more serious thing, maybe she'd like something like that too." A part of him didn't want to encourage his kids to grow up, but eventually they were going to do that without his help anyway. "How about something to train Princess Bubbles?' he said with a laugh. "Or the poscutas if the princess won't listen." Kauff picked through the items in this section and the next, coming up with a hoop that might have been intended for budding dancers and a little whistle meant for tiny bards or sporty kids, he wasn't sure which. "If we ask her not to blow it too early in the morning, she might listen."

Xariy twirled the hoop around as she considered it, careful not to bump into any displays. If there was one thing she was certain of it was that Linnea loved being with all their animals. She was a little sad thinking about the fact their kids were growing so fast and figuring out what they liked and disliked, and how none of that really aligned with either of their own interests. It was good for them to expand on their own terms however, and she never wanted to put them through what had happened with her. "I think that's a perfect idea. Linnea will be thrilled to be able to teach them something new. Especially if she can get Rawn to listen."

"That would be something." Rawn had been with him for years, and even though the poscuta was quite well behaved on his own, he had never been eager to do tricks. "I'm sure she can do it though." Linnea's way with animals was astounding. He tossed the whistle in the air and caught it again. "I think we're done?" Kauff thought things had gone well here. He offered Xariy his arm again and approached Resa, ready to pay.

Xariy smiled and headed towards the counter, happy to have grabbed some fun things for both of the children. It wasn't often she and Kauff had alone time anymore, what with the trio of children she watched after on top of Linnea and Layn. It was a pleasant thing to be able to spend time alone. "Our babies are finding their passions. They're growing up so fast," Xariy sighed wistfully, glancing over to Kauff. "And neither of them are taking after our own interests, really. Perhaps that's for the best."She didn't think she would approve of either of them becoming a thief like she had been.
