Heike 8 "That'll be good." Heike sighed, trying to peer around the canopy for even the smallest sight of the sky above. Nothing. Not unless she climbed the tree but that wasn't something that was going to happen this late at night. Chances were she'd run into something dangerous in the darkness, like one of those crystal spiders with the extra thick silk. "I'm feeling very ready to leave."

Doesina 9 Doesina wrung the cloth out, listening to the soft fall of the droplets on the water. She debating ignoring the time of day it was and sitting down in the water. It had been an especially hot day. She just wanted to feel cold for once today.
Instead, she picked up her bowl and carried everything back over to the fire, placing it to the side along with Heike's own set, which had been cleaned methodically earlier by the Elidae. She sat down once more on her side of the fire, watching the expressions on her cousin's face and hearing it in her voice. There really was a change coming over her to be saying something like that.
"Do you think you'll eventually go home? To Kiros, I mean." She said this softly, as if the very subject of the Kahi isles would cause the enchantment of this peaceful moment with Heike to be shattered .As if it'd make the very fire explode into sparks that would shower over them all, burning everything it touched.

Heike 9 It was a slight reaction, but Heike's face winced at the thought of home. Yes, she had thought about it. It was a personal, and secret, goal of hers to better herself both mentally and physically before returning. She wanted to feel like she was worthy to protect her young Tree with her other Sisters. As well as get to know them more fully finally, without her mother breathing down her neck about getting the wrong types of values from them.
She only realized after she left, how twisted Kioke's own values had been.
"Maybe. We'll have to see."

Doesina 10 That wasn't a no Doesina heard. Turning her head to the side, so the fire really wouldn't pick up on her expressions, she smiled. She hoped Heike would return to Kiros. It was where Aishans belonged, near their Trees.
Or was it really? The smile vanished from her face as her own thoughts went inward, thinking about all that she had learned herself since leaving for Jauhar. Before than, she had never left Yael, only venturing so far to meet with her Earthling friends. But her mother had been aware of what she was doing and so she had never felt like she was doing something she shouldn't. She always returned back to her home, to be near her family and Esena. But she knew that sometimes life took you away from your home. Away from your tree. Some Sisters were no longer comfortable being near their own. Often the ones who took Earthling wives. Or husbands, in the rarer case.
"I'm sure mother and grandma wouldn't mind how long you want to stay with them," Doesina answered, trying to sound reassuring.

Heike 10 A dark grey Elaria face was difficult to make out in the growing darkness, even with a bright fire between them. Heike noticed nothing strange going on across from her. She stared into the fire, trying to calm the jittery thoughts inside her head that wanted to convince her going back to Kiros was a bad idea. There was no reason why it would be. Nothing had been her fault. She was not an outcast. No one blamed her for anything, despite how much she blamed herself for everything.
Only time would tell. She was prepared to take the risk. And even if it turned out to be the worst decision of her life, she could simply leave once more and find somewhere where she did seem to belong.
