There was something about the way some priests and others considered the concept of human nature as innately, irrevocably sinful and damned--irredeemable in every aspect except through Christ--that had never sat right with him.
"You're not awful," was his prompt response, as quick as it was heartfelt. An echo of his train of thought, "you're human. And what matters is that you know better now." But for her actual question, "you can greet God, yes. There are..." a vague waving gesture with one hand, "technically rules and procedures for it, but I've always been more of a 'earnest prayer in the closet'-supporting kind of priest, if that's more comfortable for you."
She would probably appreciate some guidance, however--
"Prayer is between you and God. The amount of formality you use is ultimately up to you. God is above petty things like caring how you greet Him. You could say 'yo, God, it's me, your bestie', and I don't think it'd matter to Him as much as the fact that you're talking to Him."
