The sulky attitude cleared away like it'd been a passing breeze, leaving only pleasant surprise in its wake. Eyebrows raised and smile dimpling his cheek, Hybris assured the other, "Oh, please consider me both invested and patient in that case ." A pause and then he added, "And I'll be behave, of course. I'll be very good."

A promise made and heard more than once, in more than one lifetime, now.

"I'm Hybris, by the way. Dark Mirror Senshi of Eggplants."

Some things never changed. It was⠀almost --

It⠀⠀was⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀almost nothing. Rot and ash and meat, walking, saying words as if he didn't know he was dead already, how easily they could kill him, how they could do it a hundred different ways before anyone could stop them, even here; how easy to bite down

But but but but. No. It wouldn't be rewarding. Some other time. He'd always been so easy to use to attend to baser appetites, and their senseless little foolish self was just all hungers, in the end.

"I do have to get back to work," they paused, just long enough, "Hybris. But if you're a good boy, I'll see if I can punch out ten minutes early." It was just what he was, turning towards their insincere smile like sunshine. Just another piece of muscle memory. Just another echoed action; the words were new, but little else.

In every life he would be built of the same selfish virtues. So easy to use, in the end.
