She laughed and once again used the other end of her spear to attack him. This time striking him in the knee to force him to the ground. She was being easy on him since he was her son. “That costs money and makes little sense if one of us can do it.” She took a breath and brought her spear up so that she could plant it on the ground and use it to lean on. “Ujiri.. Your mama doesn’t leave out of spite. And I don’t stay here because I’m not wanted by her side.” Her gaze softened a little. “Trust me. Next time she’s home, spend time with her.”

He hadn’t been expecting his mom to actually take him down so the blow to his knee made him fall. He’s pretty sure a curse slipped out his mouth as well. “It feels like it..” He finally admitted. To him it was like Ujana was trying to escape from them. To leave them behind. “I just wish she’d stay home with us.” He huffed again as he moved his head up to look at his mom. “Why is the world better than us?”

“And I wish my kids would stop having attitudes.” She snarked back at him. She stayed leaning against her spear as she brought her free hand up to push her dreads back from her face. “Honey, the world isn’t better than us. The world provides for us and Ujana is trying to gain access to it. Stop being so judgmental.” She lifted a single brow at him as she spoke. “And you need to work on your training again. You’re slow.”

“You and mama gave us our attitudes.” He remarked. With another grunt he moved to get up off the ground, collecting his blades along the way. He was silent for a long time before he finally agreed with what his mom was saying. “When she comes back… I’ll see if she wants to spend time with me.” It was all he could do. If his mama didn’t want to then he couldn’t force her.

“That’s all I ask.” She knew Ujana would be happy to spend time with their broody son. If Ariya had felt she was growing apart from him then she knew her wife would be feeling it too. And if there was a hope that he could be reached then both would take it. She just wished she hadn’t needed to smack him around so much to get him to listen. That was a Ujana trait right there. The alk shook her head and grinned. “You are definitely Ujana’s son.”
