Devyn picked up the bag and seemed just fine with eating while he walked. He moved around the table so he could join Brielle and walk at her own pace.
“Well, I don’t mind favors. I’m fine, I think. Doing very well, comparatively. Getting my world cleaned up has been a bit of a challenge, but I think it’s paying off. You’ll have to come visit sometime. I have goats now. Or, I did, the last time I visited. I don’t know if they’ll be there when I go back, they weren’t exactly where they were supposed to be. But it’s made me optimistic. I’ve been keeping notes. And I need to make a catalogue. I’ve been recording what plants are growing where and how quickly, and I want to keep track of everything.”
He exhaled, like this was exhausting, but seemed equally delighted and invested in the project.
“So overall, I think things have been good. The weather on Alastor’s been great. The Hall’s been refortified. I think I’m ready to start branching out and working on other areas. My list of things to do keeps growing. What about you? How are you holding up with everything?”

Brielle, of course, walked slowly, but she could walk. This was better than trying to settle herself on a hard bench, with everything going on in her body. It was easier to ignore physical discomfort, anyway, when their conversation moved on to more familiar topics. "Goats?" she asked, with interest. It seemed that a lot of people who she was talking to were finding bugs on their worlds, these days, and perhaps even a bird or rodent here or there, but livestock? That was something different. "When can we go visit?" she asked, without any farther hesitation. She wasn't usually the type of person who put so much stock into what was happening in places other than Earth, but with how important this was to Alastor, this was a different situation. "After everything that we put into saving it, I do what to see what it's like now that it's starting to wake up a bit." A moment passed, while her thoughts drifted to her own world, which had no great hall, no livestock, no neatly structured gardens. "And I can help," she told him. "With fixing something. My world doesn't have anything like that. I think it might be nice, being able to build or fix something and see your progress."

Devyn nodded with enthusiasm when she prompted goats, and he seemed as proud of them as he did of every little thing his world produced.
“We can go soon, probably. I’ve got some plans with the boys, and a few more things I want to get ironed out. It isn’t that I don’t trust guests,” he insisted, “It’s just that I’ve got a few projects I want to do and I know I’ll get distracted with company. But you work on healing up first, all right? If I’m taking you to Alastor, I want you to be able to enjoy it. Especially if you’re offering to help. I’d like to hear about your world and what you’ve found there so far. Do you have construction or repair skills?” he asked; there was no judgment in his voice and he instead just seemed interested.
There was something about his tone that implied if she didn’t, he was more than willing to teach her what he knew.

Brielle was happy to nod when he asked if she had any construction skills. She might not have looked the part, with the nice blouse and the floral flats and the memory of a three year old, but she had a few practical skills. "I had quite the comprehensive theater education before everything," she told him, "I think that's why? I think I built sets or something?" It had been the best she could figure, when she'd been looking through the paper trail of her life, trying to figure out who she was and why she could tell the difference between a bolt and a nylock nut even though she couldn't remember her mother's name. "But wherever it came from, some of those instincts carried through. I can tell my power tools apart, and my fasteners." It had come in handy before, when she'd been transported to that strange realm and had to build her own shelter. "I'm not an expert and I might need some refreshers, but I can help. Once I heal, I suppose." She grimaced at those pretty shoes. "I don't want to go home, Devyn," she told him, turning to frown at him instead. He of all people would understand, she thought. "My body's starting to get upset at me for being out, but I like the sunshine, and I've been so bored."

“Is that so?” He asked, and tilted his head so he could watch her from the corner of his eyes as they walked. “I won’t force you to go home. Although I would strongly recommend that you rest.” As difficult as it was to stay still himself, he knew that reasonably the best thing to do was to let her body heal.
“I suppose you don’t have to go home to do that. Do you want to go nap in the sunshine?” he asked. “I’ve got some time, I could sit with you. There are plenty of hills around here. Unless you think it might be better to head up there,” he nodded towards the sky. He always healed faster on Alastor so he figured the same must be true for her on her homeworld. “I’m surprised you’re getting bored, though.”
A slight, amused smile slipped onto his features. “There’s so much to do. Here, there. Everywhere. I feel like I could spend the rest of my life and still not have enough time.” A brief silence passed, because he’d already had so much time–and felt like he had hardly anything to show for it.
He pressed his lips together, shrugged, and smiled again. Things were different now. Things were changing, for the better. And they’d stay for the better, too.
For all of them, hopefully.

"There's a lot to do. There's a lot to see and learn," Brielle agreed. "And I've got a lot of lost time to make up for." The two of them might have had a lot more in common than they'd initially realized, a lot of scars to compare, but that was where things were different between the two of them. He'd had too much time, spread out over a lonely millennia. Brielle had so little. "I think that's why I get restless, being laid up." Her youth had been taken from her, and there was no guarantee of how much time she had left in this life, so she wanted to experience as much as she could while she had the time to do it. "But, laying in the grass for a while doesn't sound like a waste of time, especially if you're there. Here, I think," she said, and stepped off of the path enough that she could lower herself into a soft patch of grass. This was better than the bench already. "I'll show you Cybele when I don't have to worry so much about this." For right now, the sun was warm, and she was happy.
