“Sorry,” he said, and he meant it, even though he kept his voice light, not the least bit offended.
He seemed to be apologizing a lot tonight. That wasn’t normally like him. It wasn’t that he didn’t like to apologize, it was more that he didn’t usually get himself into situations where he needed to. With Quinn, it seemed like he kept stumbling, unsure of his footing.
Jack consoled himself with the knowledge that this was new and different for both of them. They were both bound to mess up at some point.
“Come on, I can show you to one of the rooms. Roxy, stay.”
Roxy did not seem pleased by this command, but she did as she was told, watching sadly as Jack led Quinn to one of the two guest rooms. He let him have the one with its own ensuite, so Quinn could have as much privacy as he wanted. The room was as neutrally decorated as the rest of the condo, but had a nice view of the park across the street. Quinn’s former hiding spot was at the opposite side of the park and couldn’t be seen from the condo, but if Quinn had done any exploring while he was stuck out there, he would probably recognize the area.
“Let me know if you need anything. I mean it. You’re not imposing. It’s just me and Roxy here.”
