Now there were threats of military movement, parental leverage... in response to some danger within his pack? Sounds right for these two. Jumpin' right into a relationship was always gonna put me hip-deep in the ongoing stuff. Oh well. My problems now. The reluctance to go for kin's throat, even when they made trouble, spoke well to her. Made things awkward after. He knew what he was about, if not what needed doing.
Their warrior, meanwhile, all sculpted muscle and motion, already proposed action. The hybrid could appreciate that, just not why the whole show was necessary. If this woman became that big a problem, they went over and got her to stop, by word or tooth. No sense worrying over it. But then, Einsol felt he hadn't joined herself to entirely sensible people. Was looking like more fun this way. "Missing a lot of what we're on about, but our cubs'll be safe. That ain't a question. The rest'll work itself out, even if we gotta go hunting after."

Variel 6
She felt for Viltre, protecting family was his whole purpose in life it seemed to her. Protecting those that maybe didn't deserve it too, but to keep the peace and all hearts beating.
Bringing a child into the mix, particularly his own with well, with mixed heritage and two moms. As well as the liklihood of Einsol also wanting children with Viltre one day. A beautiful rainbow family to Variel was a gong of war for Merle of the Kavensei clan.
She really should get with the times. Einsol's words were reassuring. Viltre being that anxious would make her anxious.

Viltre closed his eyes, took a breath, and tried to ground his thoughts. It was something Variel had suggested after one too many nights of waking up at the desk. (Which was to say, after the second time.) Thinking only of right now in the morning, rather than reviewing the projects he had in the air. He still wasn't particularly good at it as yet. "Sorry. Might be getting ahead of myself. Defaulting to the family drama again. If you want to be with us, Einsol, there's things you need to know."
A little wiggling and he'd turned in the furs to face both women. He found he fit rather well facing the Oban, and Ein seemed happy enough to snag the both of them as a package. "I wouldn't mind being a father. Got a good example of what not to do. Shouldn't be too hard to winnow what worked from what didn't." And, he had to admit, the attentions that made it inevitable were pleasant. Even if it did feel as though he were proving Merle right...

With her arm released, and the tan body squirming about, the healer was free to readjust. "Okay. Don't gotta tell me right now. Too comfy for heavy talk." She pulled them both a bit more snug, fitting crease and curve and angle just that much more smoothly together. This way gave her the room to lean her head in and brush her nose to Viltre's. Yellow eyes flicked from the green to the red, making sure to nuzzle her cheek up to the brown one beside it.
Now this she could weigh in on. Whatever business jellying up their jam, the prospect of new life was one with which she was familiar. Both of her chosen mates had the essentials down, from what she'd seen. Maybe not the particulars, but nobody did those perfectly. "Var' an' I got good examples for bein' a Da. You'll meet booth soon if this goes right. Can do like they do an' it'll turn out fine."

Variel 7
She all but purred when Viltre was fit against her again, Ein was warm but his body temperature was significantly higher than theirs. The perks of having a male in the bed..well one of the perks.
She kissed him softly. His words meant a lot to her. She did know that she loved this man who needed so much protection. From the world, from the family, from boredom, she was all the protection they would need. Though Ein would help, a wolf twin was nothing to snort at no indeed. Not least because where one of them was the other was sure to follow eventually. Like little fanged magnets.
She blessed Ein for squishing them all together again once Viltre had readjusted. She was just so dang comfy she felt like the noble she actually was but never acknowledged.
"Yes our Father's make great examples." She nodded. They were simiilar though Kiyelt had more of a sense of humor than her Father.

The thief nodded, yielding to his new lover on the matter. Her squashing them all together felt like it lent some leverage to her viewpoint, oddly enough. "As you like. There's a whole tangled story to it. Maybe later would be best. Over lunch." ...Definitely with food. His wasn't a tale for an empty stomach. You needed fortitude to tell of politics and feuds, let alone keep up with the twisty business.
His natural state being a sort of neutral melancholy, the warmth was a strange feeling. He'd felt affection before, of course. He wasn't an automata. But heretofore it had been of a filial nature, the fondness and pride an elder sibling bears a younger, or the gratitude a child might have for a parent. His Friends, too, were accorded some measure of positive regard: they helped him when he needed, and he did what he could to always see that repaid. "Looking forward to it. Never really thought about a family of my own. Always figured I'd be married off to family advantage, likely some Leaf girl set to make things unpleasant. Best I'd planned for was friends, not this."

Einsol could well be warmer, if she wished, as the light in her soul and bones naturally produced heat as a side-effect. But that tended to make things brighter, and she'd decided against tormenting her brother more than they already had. Erotic shadowshows were not something to bring family into; people got strange ideas about that sort of thing. Strange ideas like to the outer shape of the tale she was picking up off her mates. Slithery and knotted, it sounded, and not wholly pleasant, however nice the current outcome. "You'll prob'ly have a bigger audience if it's lunch. Can shoo the littles out, but there's a lot of us as ain't heard your side of Terrwyn's tale, includin' her.
Why would you get set to pair with someone you don't like? Let alone matebond with 'em?" For all her depth of thought, all her line's dignity, Einsol was a peasant to her bones. She hadn't learned the dance of influence the various nobilities stepped through over generations, and could see no sense in the expressed pessimism. Terrwyn had attempted to explain, just the once, but as a victim of it, hers were biased views. Understandably so, but it still hadn't cleared anything up...

Variel hugged her leafling, he was a fighter but for the right reasons. “Food sounds good, hopefully Ushi has the coffee going outside.” She was usually a bit of a bear before coffee but this was the ideal way to wake up.
“Some people marry their kids off to gain advantage, Im off the hook, my parents are high enough standing and not looking to increase their power, also sis is dating a prince so we are covered anyway.”
She got two for the price of one, Nic was a nice guy but Bariel felt she had the best deal.
“Suppose we need to get up? Or can we lay here and continue to look forward to a family of our own?”

The squeeze was returned in kind, as best he could. Their redhead thief didn't have the muscle either woman bore, being all whipcord and angles. It really was comfortable here, with them. "Can probably stay here a bit longer. Think he'll understand." A kiss to Variel, and he relaxed, taking in the closeness.
...It gave them time to address hanging issues, anyhow. Since Ein still looked puzzled, Viltre took what his partner said and expanded on it. "As she says. Family pressures, political standing, esteem by association, sealing bargains between clans or groups... All possible benefits of joining bloodlines. It can be passing ruthless. Even if it leaves the pair unhappy, it's an old method that usually works out in the long run." A pause, thoughtful more than down. "Short term is where it can fail. That's why there are matchmakers to advise."

The blue healer stored that preference away. "Might be disappointed there. Ushi's a tea man. Probably has a pot ready, tho'. He likes strong stuff; should do the trick." She didn't mind coffee. Cleaned off other lingering scents from your nose. Flavorwise, she had to agree with her best brother. Tea was the better drink.
Her hair slithered about, free of its braids for once as she tilted her head up to better look at her Leafling. "This might've been for both of you? Okay, yeah, kinda see why it happens, but how do they enforce that? Why not handfast 'em to see if it works first?" A year and a day was generally long enough to see if a couple would work out, she reckoned. Surely there were outs.

Variel 9 "Yes both of us may have been subjected to this at some point. Its the cost of being a fancy noble and usually I try to ignore the metaphoric color of my blood. Sis can be the fancy one I'd rather land on my but in the dirt every day in a good practice fight. There is nothing more boring than socializing with other people associated with you based on standing alone, they rarely if ever have anything in common with me and the males well, I'd eat them alive but my parents don't take it too seriously. They got to chose for love after all." "I can do tea, its not quite as bracing but it does taste better especially with milk and cream. " It was one of the few metabolic luxuries she allowed herself. She smiled brightly when Viltre kissed her; a slow smile that displayed how happy she was.

"I like tea. Still not sold on coffee or ale." However nice the consequences of drinking had been for him, the hangover had been an experience better left in the past. The warrior's clear happiness continued to be the best result of that misadventure. "That would make sense. But traditions and situational pressures don't always need to make sense to matter. Sometimes they just matter because everyone else involved seem to think them important. Variel grew up in a better situation than half of my siblings. My mother was a mistress, not the official wife, and the wife doesn't much care for her get.
Papa does care for Mother, in his way, and he loves us, but he's seldom around. Which leaves us with Merle and each other. And grownups make the rules, yes? And nobility have connections to make. Sense is optional." He was already learning the healer's way. Subtlety didn't work so well with Einsol. Not because she couldn't understand, but because she thought so directly. Patient or not, she spared no time for what she saw as silliness, and it troubled her that otherwise sensible people would ignore the simple solutions. Communicating with her would require blunt honesty, another unfamiliar tool. Oddly, that Variel was likewise a little off-balance around her was a comfort...

Ein's head and shoulders rose to loom over the both of them, blue mane following and making her seem bigger. "...So you," She stared pointedly at her tanned thief, "had to take the whole thing seriously, and you," the luminous yellow gaze turned down to the darker redhead, "didn't have to. So this whole thing ain't even consistent. Doesn'tsound like much of a tradition." She paused a moment, shook her head, spreading soft dark hair over both of her lovers. This was followed shortly by her upper torso in a hug from above. "Doesn't matter anymore. You're both mine.
Lookin' forward to meetin' your kin again, an' maybe gettin' Xarthin studded out so we can bring 'em more janarim eggs." Variel was easier; her kin were nice. Viltre needed a bit more comfort. "You ain't gettin' traded off. I wanna meet the rest of your siblings, too; y'seem like you're precious fond of 'em." His bodyguard had the right idea. Their mate needed protecting, especially when he couldn't see it himself. At least he'd had the good taste to hire Variel, and keep his blood inside.

Variel 10
Oddly enough she was quite comforted by this, Ein had a certain air of command about her that sometimes flowed from the Matriarch of her clan, cleanly cut with the Patriarch's no nonsense approach to simple toothy problems and Einsol was a ringleader not to be trifled with not least because of the power of the twin wolves together but certainly not eclipsing her own no nonsense flair. Any warrior could appreciate efficiency. Besides noble people crap had always given her a bit of a headache, she knew the dance but didn't enjoy any of it.
"Okay! I would love to see some Xarthin babies, might be a fruitful enough line in my estimation, he is quite fine." And so would her line be mixed with Vil's. Her heart raced with joy at the thought.

"No, I don't supp-" The further woman, having apparently heard enough, rose over the other two to speak. The scribe blinked, head turning just so that his pink crest caught a glimmer of color. And then there was a blue shoulder and cheek pressed to his chin and face. There was a familiar authority about that statement. Privately, Viltre wondered if all healers developed it. Certainly remember Terr's midwife carying that imperious bearing in her own domain. They do have sway over life and death, just like chieftains, just approaching from the other direction. Disobeying a healer's command can be fatal. Might account for some of it.
While his thoughts gave him pause, Einsol murmured in his ear. Hadn't hid the one in Variel's, tho' they were individual declarations. Either way, it seemed he was claimed twice over now. Meeting his siblings... well, that meant going home. Hopefully things would be cooler by the time they found Elaxi, and the opportunity arose. "...I am. Know 'em down to their toes; how couldn't I love them? Think you might, too. Already fond of yours." Slim fingers squoze at Variel again in quiet thanks. This notion seemed to have settled out well, and in the dark of their tent, the three simply enjoyed one another's presence...
