Asa had done a similar inspection on their first pregnancy, but that had been a long time ago and the sensation of his magic was something she would never get used to. She gave a subtle shiver, tucking her coat in a bit more securely as if it would help warm her. It also was understandable that, back then, his skill with the craft allowed him to confirm she was pregnant, but didn't give him much more in the way of details.

This time, it seemed, was different because instead of just a cursory sweep of his chilly magic, he was focusing quite intently on her belly - enough so that she was tempted to smack his hand away so that persistent chill of his magic would stop. "Asa?" She retorted, her rounded brows furrowing slightly. Why was he so concerned?

His question, of course, made her eyes go wide. "No, he did not." She said, in a breathless gasp. Immediately, of course, her thoughts went to her own twin - Sol.

Of course, she knew that the odds were higher, but having had two single babies before she'd thought it was unlikely. "Twins then? It's- you can tell?" She asked, sweeping her hands down along her stomach as if she'd be able to feel it the same way he could.

Asa leaned back into his chair with nervous chuckle. His eyes were wide as the iceling man sank back into the well-worn wooden seat. With his hand pulled away, he was left to wring his hands together in the fabric of his coat while the realization did it’s darndest to sink in. “It would be harder not to notice.”

Twins. Oh goodness, oh goddess. This was…this was big. He’d known there was a chance, multiples seemed to run in her family, but after the boys Asa assumed it wasn’t in the works for them. Was the fire getting warmer? Or was it just harder to breath? He was excited by the news, but – oh, why were the noises getting muffled?

It made sense, now, why Uquin had been so quick to hurry her out. Ygraine had sought him out because she didn't want to harass her husband into constantly checking, and wanted to be sure she was pregnant before telling him. But - in his own way, perhaps, Uquin was leaving THIS part of the discovery between the couple. Maybe though, in hind sight, it would have been better to tell her previously because Asa seemed ready to faint at the news.

Ygraine was delighted. Worried, of course, because one baby was already a lot to handle, but -

This was their last try, Asa had gotten her to promise this would be the last one, and in the end she'd weaseled in another. She wanted to laugh, but instead she reached for his hands, holding them firmly in her own larger ones. "Come on, my darling, breath with me? You look like you're about to fall out of your chair." She drew in an exaggerated breath, raising her eyebrows at him in hopes he'd follow her lead.

He was excited; truly he was. The little lives growing inside of his wife were as hale and hearty as he could have hoped. Still, the news of two rocked him in a way he hadn’t been expecting. What was he to do with twins? It had been hard enough to keep up with Colm and Arden even with a few years separating the pair.

“I can see you talking, but I can’t hear you.” His breathing was shaky at best, but Asa couldn’t keep that stupid, wide grin off his face. For all his worries he was proud of the accomplishment. For a man who had worried for so long that he would only be good for one child he’d managed four, but it wasn’t over yet. There was still so much to fuss over, so much to do…

“Yo-you’re won-“ Wonderful. He tried to follow her breathing, really he did, but in the end Asa’s eyes rolled back into his head. Within a moment the man was slumping back into his chair, possibly into the floor had Ygraine not been holding onto his hands.

And-- there it was. The people in the little cafe with them startled as he slumped in his seat, a few half rising to come check on him. But Ygraine remained calm, shifting from her chair so she could hurry to her husband's side and pull him more securely back up, fingers sweeping over his cheeks. That huge smile had been more than enough to reassure any worries she might have had - he was happy at this, just as she was.

Early on, her husband dead fainting had been horrifying, and while now it was still concerning, she knew how to handle it - with salts from her purse, and soft murmurs in his ear as he recovered himself.

It would, if nothing else, be a great story one day - how papa fainted when he heard he was having twins.
