If he was a smarter man then he would take the hint and duck out. Whatever jobs Illapha had in Oba could be put on hold for a few weeks while he ducked out and away from the crew. Indra wouldn’t care about a missing ‘deserter’. If they’d still been in town then she might have hunted him, but since they were setting sail? She’d have other things to fuss over.
Xenia hoped for the other option, though, the crazier one. The one where she took a teenager, albeit a one a lot more mature than she’d been at his age, away from his home and stuck him in danger. It wasn’t the smartest plan or the safest but she didn’t have options. It wasn’t as if she were pulling him in off the cabbage cart though; he’d already served so he knew what to expect. At least, partially.
She laid her palm flat on the table to stand as well, pinching the note just enough to lift it when she ‘casually’ slid her hands into her pockets. “Good drinks make for good company, Illy.” Xenia raised a hand and made a ‘round up’ motion with her finger. Several chairs started to presumably slide out around them and a few figures moved closer to follow her to the door. “Don’t forget; New Moon. Oh and it’s Captain onboard.”

"Captain." He corrected, with a grimace. His eyes shifted as she stood, taking in the number of people who had watched the interaction. To have so many people watching her... he couldn't imagine. He put on his stormiest face and stepped back again, arms crossed over his broad chest. It allowed him the luxury of tucking some fingers into his shirt, where he could trace the hidden comb - and remind himself why he should do this.
Xenia was as good as a stranger, but she'd still seen a familiar face and reached out for help. Maybe his father's preaching for a peaceful world was sinking in, because instead of rolling his eyes at the thought of helping a stranger... he felt strangely determined. "I'll see you at new moon."

Xenia didn’t look behind her as she walked out of the bar. Worrying about her tab wasn’t an issue; the barkeep had it good with Indra so a few drinks were the last of his concerns. Now that she’d potentially secured another asset the yaeli would have to make sure to ‘protect’ it. They would need a secure area of the ship to hold meetings, some sort of code to dip if things got bad, back ups for back ups…
With the retinue at her side Xenia couldn’t even give in to the sigh that crept on her. She had to keep her chin up and shoulders squared. She did, however, stop near the end of the smaller pathway, just before reaching the docks to turn and wait to see if Illapha exited. Once he did she would start walking again, but if he stayed too long she would have to send someone in to watch him. Otherwise it would be a ‘security risk’, as Indra said, and on her own end it would look suspicious.
“Bit big that one.” A voice to her left caught her attention and she turned to one of the Matorian’s at her side. Cetis was his name and the man’s jaw always sat at a weird angle from a bad break. “Good for slowin’ the ship down.”
“Good for throwin’ you off it,” Xenia muttered, and when he looked at her she shrugged. “Good for movin’ canons.” Cetis gave a ‘hrmph’ and begrudgingly nodded.

No, there was no way Illy was sticking around. As much as he wanted to trust Xenia, he wasn't sure if their secretive meeting had fooled anyone, and for all he knew someone would come back to shove a knife between his ribs. So he waited a respectable amount of time then set down enough coin for his drinks and shuffled his way out. He didn't look towards where the group had disappeared, but he imagined he felt eyes on him as he headed back towards the inn he was living out of. He'd have to pack after all - and pretend he was going to consider running.
Sure enough, on the day Xenia had told him, he showed up with a pack slung over his shoulder, and the comb securely shoved in his best hiding spot.

Xenia knew that what she failed to say in her meeting with Indra later that Cetis would not. Although he pretended to be her ‘aide’, she was no fool; he was one of Indra’s closest lackeys. Shortly after returning to the ship Xenia would meet with her true Captain, recount her efforts of recruitment and then retire to their cabin.
Indra wasn’t likely to be pleased with a sailor she hadn’t hired herself, but she still viewed Xenia as harmless. A keldari with fangs and no venom. Illapha would be part of that change and so long as he served Xenia would protect him as best she could. He may have been drug into this young, but his life would go on. He was meant for better things; Gods knew he was better than this.
