I say just go for it. If you do get the solo, you'll be scard as heck, but so happy when you pull it off!

i think im sure to get the part, since our chorus teacher usually picks on ppl who haven't had a chance to "shine" yet, alot of the amazingly good singers are in A Capella so they're already cool and don't need solos in performances lol xd

I've only done one solo, and I was like 12 - five years ago. And it was in front of my church.. But I might be doing a duet with my best friend at her brother's wedding in January.. lol!

I sing solo competitively about once a year, when New York State has its annual NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival. This year, I got a 94/100 on my Level VI All-State solo, which is the highest level. Compared to some others from my school that went, I did okay. It was the sight reading that killed me. I got 7/10 on it. gonk I sing solo for fun/show quite a bit at my voice teacher's recitals. She's having one in about three weeks, and I get to sing 'Think of Me,' from Phantom of the Opera in it! *excited*

Ayamechan Anyone here sing solo? o.O; I pretty much have to. It's the only way they'll let me into a choir here. Oh, and does anyone have to compete as a solo singer? x_x;; I've sung solos before and did a duet with a friend at a choir concert once. I get nervous, and I do have good competition, but I'm good too, so it's always interesting. It always stinks, though, because I'm a 1st alto/mezzo who can sing second soprano unless I'm sick or having trouble singing, and on auditions I'll have difficulty hitting the higher notes. sweatdrop

I used to sing solos when I was younger, I didn't develope my terror of singing them until about sophmore year of high school, and I still don't know why I did. Anyway, I haven't sang a solo for a long time because of fear. I need to get over it, maybe I'll try out for some next year in college, we'll see.

My advice is that anyone who wants a solo should go for it. Even if you don't get it, it's good to practice auditioning.

I'm definately a solo singer... I compete very seriously in solo competitions. I've won 3 NATS competitions, and several others. I also have recieved Superior ratings since my freshman year on solos at Solo and Ensemble festivals.

I'm gonna try out for a lead part in the musical type thing we're going to be doing this year, but whether I'll get it or not, is beyond me.

eek My voice teacher wants me to sing a solo at our fall concert next week.
It's a fun song, and the range is very comfortable for me while having enough technical difficulties to make it interesting. I'm just... slightly freaking out. I haven't sang solo in years. She wants me to sing Alma del Core by Antonio Caldara, which she only gave me on Tuesday, and our concert is next tuesday.
*spasms*
I think I'll go practice now.
