Taley
The day's sunlight seemed to be fading, and along with it went the flocks of people running down the high street to catch what bargains they could. Taley trailed after them, hands deep in her coat pockets. One fuzzy ear twitched every so often, grey eyes glancing from one shop to the other. Her tail flicked behind her, suddenly stopping in her tracks altogether.

"Manuscript, oh come on, there's got to be somewhere." She exasperated, hopping from one white paw to the other, the white furry girl's eyes darting frantically along the array of stores. Nope, no manuscript sellers there. With a deep breath, she headed down the nearest side street. She couldn't recall ever passing, but something pulled her in that direction. With a strong gust of wind trailing down the line of busy shoppers, Taley hugged her coat closer to her chest, plodding down the back street.

Only then did she come face to face with the little stationary store. One eyebrow cocked up. Well, she didn't have much choice. Pushing the door open with one arm, the girl tapped her paws off on the mat.

"Hello?" She called out, straightening the rather long scarf around her neck.

Huni Pi
Ning looked up from her dusting and walked over to Taley. Though she only came up to the girl's hips, there was something about the Fandangle that radiated authority.

"Yes? May I help you?" she asked, tucking the feather duster in the crook of her limbs, careful not to snap it in two.

Taley
Grey orbs darted down to the voice, ears flicking right back to her skull. She shouldn't have really been surprised, Gaia was so diverse. She'd just never seen a fandangle before. Finding the need to bend down to the fandangle's level, the fur covered girl ducked down, resting her arms on top of her knees.

"Ah hello, I'm after some Manuscript paper. Preferably the ones with the slightly thicker lines." Stuttering through her request, Taley smiled nervously. Secretly inside she prayed they'd have some, any, even if it wasn't with the thicker lines. Tail pinning between her legs, she nervously fiddled with the edge of her scarf that dragged over her knees.

Huni Pi
"Manuscript paper? Hmmm, according to my memory bank, we should have some in supply. But they're stored in the stock room due to minimal requests. Feel free to look around, something might catch your eye. In the meantime, excuse me while I go look for them." Ning nodded, her mechanical legs bringing her to the back.

The moment the Fandangle had gone, the Study door creaked open ever so slight.

Taley
"Thank you," Watching the Fandangle off, Taley slowly dragged herself up onto two paws. Stretching her arms out in front of her, she pawed her way into the centre of the room. The very moment the fandangle left out of sight, her shoulders sagged. Why didn't she get this sorted out earlier?

The sound may have only just creaked, but one auditory ear picked it up. Flicking her ears towards the noise, Taley turned ninety degrees on the spot. Curiousness can be a killer, yet it still tugged at the girl's scarf. Tugged at her tail to go have a look, just go and find out what was in there. After all, the little mechanical Ning had said she could look around, right?

One paw before the other, and she soon stood at the door to the study. Her hand extended, wrapping around the handle. Now or never. Choosing the first of the options, the furry pushed the door open. Creaking terribly as the door had just a moment ago when opening slightly, her large ears seemed to pin back to her hairline - getting as close as at all possible.

"Just a look," She muttered to herself, glancing behind her; half expecting the little metal creature to be standing right behind her. Curiously, she crept into the room, silently closing the Study door behind her.

Huni Pi
The door opened with ease, creating little to no sound as the Taley widened the opening. With the same silence, the door shut with an audible click of the lock. Effectively sealing Taley within the Study.

The room was a sharp contrast to the shop, it was dark, and dusty, the solitary bulb hanging from the ceiling the only source of light. And yet, the old Tome atop the writing desk in the far end of the room managed to draw attention, despite its ordinary appearance.

Taley
She'd only taken her first step into the Study before the click penetrated those sensitive ears. With a start, she turned right round, grey orbs glowering at the lock. Was this some sort of joke? One step found her back where she'd just come from, trying out the door. It was locked, well and truly locked.

What did you do when you wanted to unlock something? Find a key. Wrapping the edge of her furry tail against her knee, Taley took a few steps back into the dark and dusty Study. Her fingers found their way to her scarf, twirling the braided end around finger and thumb.
"Key, key," She spoke softly, treading carefully across the room. Squinting into the darkness, she made her way unknowingly towards the tome. It was only until she looked forwards that she noticed it. The old tome on the writing desk.

"Maybe it's over there." Her search wasn't to be fruitful, but it was questionable her reasons for searching on the table in any case. Fumbling her way over without (surprisingly) tripping up like she usually did, she stood in front of the writing table. It was just a Tome, just a normal average tome. Un-fumbleing one hand from her scarf, Taley reached out, soft furry fingers gently grazing along the Tome's spine.

"I wonder who put this here," Not quite in such an urgency to find a key, the furry retracted her fingers. Yet, she lingered near the table for a moment, studying the Tome as if it would give her the answers she was looking for; as if it would spit out a key any minute.

Huni Pi
The Tome certain spat something out, but not quite a key. It was a long, slender object with a pointed tip. A fountain pen rolled out from the book, noislly clattering to the floor to stop at Taley's foot.

Taley
Spitting books? Taley was really out of her forte here. Taking an abrupt step back as the pen clattered to the floor, Taley glanced from the book, to the pen, and then back to the book. Books weren't supposed to spit out anything. Book's weren't supposed to act like they were alive.

Needless to fault, she ducked down. One finger touched the edge of the pen, pulling back a split second later as if it would melt her fur at a single touch. It didn't. Bravely plucking the pen up, she slid it back onto the writing table - towards the book that had just handed her the same pen.

"I think that's yours." She spoke softly in a hushed voice, as if the Tome itself were an adult about to scold her. Leaving the pen on the edge of the table, Taley leant forwards, grey orbs awaiting the Tome's reaction to the referral of the pen.

Huni Pi
There came a soft trembling from the Tome, and the pages splayed open, the yellowed paper flipping back and forth until they stopped. Written in ink were the words:

"What is the sound of silence?"

Taley
Apparently the tome wasn't so happy with the offering. The yellow pages flickered through for what seemed like an eternity, before finally the page came to rest. From her leant over position, Taley could read the question loud and clear. Somehow, it seemed familiar.

"Silence?....It's not got a sound," She began. A buzz seemed to bug her from within, penetrating her ears as they flipped back from her hair. She took a moment, the silence dripping off the walls of Study. Her tail swished, silence didn't have a sound. Silence was silence. Kibbling on the edge of her lip, she plucked up the pen.

"See, silence is soundless," The thought that writing in this book might anger the owners of the shop didn't even occur, but an answer did. Leaning over, she scribed the answer onto the page; the ink flowing right out from the pen and onto the page to form her answer.

"The sound of when I play."

Swirling her letter over, she resentfully placed the pen back onto the side of the Tome.
"Happy now?" She questioned, grip returning to her long knitted scarf.

Huni Pi
The Tome was quite satisfied with the answer, for it instantly slammed shut, clattering on the table loudly. The Study, however, didn't seem to share the sentiment. A loud boom reverberated throughout the room, its vibrations shaking most of the things out of their respective places.

The echoes of the sound repeated, resembling the peals of great bells, albeit bells that were two inches away from you. The ringing grew louder, stronger, almost to the point it was difficult to even breathe, much less concentrate.

Finally there was silence. And a small figure seated on the table, clutching a small, dark blue tome in his arms.

Taley
The echoes bounced from one wall to the other, falling on large ears. White ears pinpricked right back to her head, what had she done now? Dropping the pen, Taley took a step back, bringing her arms up to cover her ears. Almost falling over, she clapped her hands over her ears. Yet, the sound of bells rang closer and closer - taking the air with each ring.

She opened her mouth to say something, eyes closing tightly. A long shaky breath exhaled her lungs, tightening her grip on her ears. They rang through her head, penetrating her skull from one ear to the next. Curling over full foetal position standing up, she shut her eyes tightly. The bells were less than three inches now, each peal shaking the furry to her very core.

Finally, it stopped.

Gradually, two eyes opened. She took in a short breath, shakily curled over on two paws. Her mouth opened to gasp as she noticed the lad on the table, he hadn't been there before - had he?

Standing up, she wobbled on her feet, paws finding their grip through the ringing buzzing right through her entire skull. It took a moment, tail pinned between her legs, but soon grey orbs fell onto soft hazelnut.

The small boy, barely older than two and a half, watched her. Hazelnut eyes blinked blindly, clutching the book tightly to his chest. Fai copied his 'guardian', opening his mouth like a fish - before rapidly closing it once more just a moment later.

"Hello?..." She whispered. Staggering forwards like she was drunk, she took a moment to shake her ears free of the ringing. Bending down before the little one, she offered her arms out. Wait, could he walk? Deciding he couldn't do it so well, she prised the little boy from his perch.

"Now, let's find your Mum, hm?" She spoke gently, careful to avoid the spines running all the way up one arm as she headed towards the study door.

Fai, however, barely said a word. His bottom lip quavered for a moment, releasing the book in favour for clinging to Taley's coat. Balling his tiny fists up in her coat, he did his best to press up close.

_Tall_Tales_
Ning re-entered the shop front, completely oblivious to what had happened within the Study. She had learned when Rhea arrived that the Study and the Tome had a mind of their own and were capable of making their own decisions.

"I have them, miss?"

Taley
She'd forgotten her Manuscript paper in all the hassle. One ear swivelled, Taley glancing down at Ning. Maybe she'd know? Grey eyes glanced at the little boy held within her grasp, who on earth would leave a child this young alone. In that study of all places!

"Thank you, how much do I owe you?" She started, deciding that holding the child against her chest wasn't going to work. Bouncing the little one against one shoulder, she slid an arm around his back, visibly wincing as the thorns on his right arm scraped over her white fur. That, would have to be sorted out later.

"I found this little one in the study. I assume he belongs to the owner of the shop?" She questioned, little did she know Fai was now all hers. Well, one of them know.

Fai's deep chocolate orbs widened as she lifted him up. Tightening his already tight grip on her coat, his large feathered head wings twitched - dislodging his flight goggles. They fell around his nose, the boy wriggling in Taley's arms to free the goggles.

If Taley had a soft spot for anything, it was for cute things, and Fai (to her at least) had just gained the definition of the epitome of cute. With careful precision, she prised the goggles from his nose, letting them fall back around his neck. Gently poking his nose, a soft smile found her face as he beamed up towards her.

Huni Pi
Ning would quirk a brow if she had one, instead she canted her head to the side at the furry girl. "Well, for the manuscript, here's the receipt." she said, handing her a slip of paper. "As for the child, he is not under Huni nor Linneas nor Sir Syrie's care. He has been entrusted to you by the Study and the Tome." she explained.

Taley
Taking the receipt, Taley stopped in her steps for a moment. Holding a child wasn't easy. Pulling out her purse from her pocket, she glanced at the receipt, offering a handful of the correct change. That was one thing sorted out, she could finally do her work now.

The next aspect caught her by surprise. He was hers? Both Tale and Author gazed at each other, how bad could it be? Mentally wishing she'd taken a child care course instead of English at school, Taley pressed a smile to the little lad.

Eyes wide, Fai kept his beam. Clutching tightly to his tome, he just leant into the shoulder offered, tilting his head to one side. He watched as she gazed so intently on him, his fingernails pressing into the hard backed tome within his grasp.

"There," The furry exhaled a long breath. She found herself wishing she'd not been as curious, but what was done was done. He was rather sweet after all.
"The study? So this has happened before?" She questioned, one last question before they went home. Taley found herself at a loss for words, a thousand and one questions buzzing around her head; but none of them connecting.

Huni Pi

After receiving the correct amount and storing it in one of her compartments, Ning handed the paper to Taley. "Yes, it has happened on more than one occasion." she replied nonchalantly, as if this no longer surprised or worried her.

Taley
"Mind holding onto this for me?" Offering the Tale the paper, Fai quickly took up the plastic wrapped packet of Manuscript. Holding it to his chest as intently as he'd held his Tome, he wrapped both blocks of paper within one arm, the other still snagged in Taley's coat.

"There's more than just you, eah? So, for..." She stopped, she didn't even know his name. Tilting her head, she glanced at the open tome within his grasp, at his name written in her hand writing. Gulping, she decided to press on for the moment.

"Fai to meet the others I just need to bring him back here?" Last question, she promised herself. Shifting from one white paw to the other, she looked over the lad. Over his thorny cross, and his arm covered in spikes. It was surprising he wasn't bleeding, but the spikes didn't even seem to scratch him.

Huni Pi
Ning nodded, "Yes, although there have been instances where Tales encounter each other outside of the store. I am uncertain of the details, but there is always that chance."

Taley

"Thank you. I'm sure I'll be back then, good day." With that, Taley turned to leave. Tail pinning between her legs, she gazed at the shop name hanging over the door. Memorizing it for future reference, soon both Fai and Taley were heading off down the streets of Gaia. A new life awaited both, but for now they just headed home; the smaller one held up close to his author.

30th of march, 2006. Homecoming.

A wind blew through the streets, scattering the litter cartons lying on dreads end. A box which had been full of some rapturous substance toppled over, smattering meat and potato over the street. A greasy matter oozed out from one side of the box, red 'curry' sauce dribbling out onto the streets - painting the pavestones a unctuous maroon red. No one seemed to remember them, nor the cleaner didn't think twice about trailing through with a dustpan so late on a thursday evening.

Unhappy with the welcoming, the moon scowled down against Barton. Rain jumped from one cloud to another, happy sprinkle boots bouncing off the grey hued balls of fluff, causing each and the next to darken. Menacing faces grinned down, opening their large elongated mouths to little more than spits. Like an angry child, it had to build up to the shouting.

Plodding along the packed streets, the white furry ducked and dived past the crowds of people flocking home in the dark. Her large ears pricked out, astute ears pulling in every sound; a baby crying, a couple having an argument, a car whizzing by: it's horn honking to try and pursue the pedestrians crossing the road at the level crossing. With her tail pinned between her legs, and her now so precious bundle wrapped against her chest- the furry started along the final turn to the way home.
Unluckily, the weather wasn't going to be on her side. The first droplet split on the Tale's head, Fai's tiny wings flickering and flapping to divert the water else ware. Hazel eyes rose to the sky, little fingers delved into the mass of scarf hanging around his guardian's neck.

"Rain?" Taley questioned. It wasn't like the little newborn was at all ready for the torrential downpour Barton was about to throw at them. Grey orbs darted for a place to put him down, settling on a sanitary wooden bench just a metre away. Between them and the bench stood a group of school kids, each waving their book bags in the air; chattering about the day past and the day ahead of them.

"Excuse me," The young furry found herself repeating so many times, shoulders barged into the wind to get past. A few of them moved, a few of them stared at the boy and guardian and a few of them didn't even seem to notice the pair of them walk on by. Even so, the bench was in sight now.
Dislodging the lad from his tight grip around her neck, Taley gently slid him down onto the bench. Fai sat there, hazel eyes widening; what were they doing? She wasn't going to leave him here, was she? Chubby arms reached out, desperately trying to latch onto something incase she did decide to leave him sitting here.

Like the answers of his prayers, Taley knelt down before the bench. The spits were coming in thick and fast, the odd spurt of water finding itself trickling down her ear and onto her coat. Taking ones coat off in the rain was never a good idea, but Taley pulled one arm (and then the other) out from her sleeves. Dragging her brown duffel coat off, the furry wrapped the material loosely around Fai's small shoulders.

Much to his delight, Fai slowly released his grip on the atmosphere, delving his chubby fingers back into the soft coat material. For the second time that day, a lopsided smile formed on his face; the soft smile manufacturing from within. Opening his mouth, he promptly shut it again: the Tale at a loss for words.

"Let's buy some tea, and then go home, eah?" Hoisting him up by his underarms, Taley settled Fai to one shoulder. She may not have been with him long, but she still found herself lovingly bopping his hood over azure baby blue hair, and gently assuring his wings through the holes in the hood. Large ears faltered back to her skull as the first of the downpour hit home. Unfortunately for her, the furry hadn't forecasted rain - and even if she had, she would have foreseen keeping her coat. Neither at hand, the liquid seeped right through her t-shirt and skirt: soaking her to the bare bone.

Looking more like a mole rat than a dignified English student, the pair of them turned off down a shorter road. A luminous sign sat between the rain, a fish with crosses set in stone beside it. Flashing, the vibrant lettering rapidly became better thoughts of warm food sitting tightly at the bottom of hungry bellies.
"Here we are," The bell dinged as the pair passed through, the grubby golden bell jangling until the door fell back onto its hinges. Before them sat an array of tables, each with its own glass cabinet, each cabinet filled with a further assortment of battered fish, sausages, potato, fishcake and pies. A rather plump woman sat behind the counter, arms crossed over, chin rested onto her subsequent arms. The red-head looked up as both Tale and Author stepped in from the rain, a smile preening over her cheeks.

"That time of the week?" She questioned. It was a further rhetorical question to add to their list. The Tale stirred, rubbing thorn covered arms over his gentle gaze. Strangely, they didn't even scratch. The thorns seemed to transmute themselves against his skin, spiky ends softening to a pulp to rub across the Fai's rosy red cheeks. Looking up from his position behind the lopsided hood, his hazel orbs darted this way and that, taking in every sight, smell and sound.

"Afraid so, usual please," Pulling her way up to the counter, Taley bounced the little boy on her hip, watching the woman (Now known as Wenda by the vibrant tag stuck to her shirt) totter about readying the plastic carton. Content to be out of the rain, the boy shook his head from one side to the other; like a dog might to rid itself of any water left in its fur. The curious look stuck still, hazel orbs fixing on the jar of sticky treats set on the counter.

"Who's this then? You kept him a secret," Wenda winked, leaning over to gather up a metal ladles worth of chips from one metal cabinet. Lifting the lid up, she delved the ladle inside the mass, lion type tail swishing too and forth behind her. Large hazel eyes suddenly found themselves captivated by the swishing, slowly gazing up towards his own guardian's very own set. A smile genuinely spurted out, reaching his little fingers out towards her tail. Leaning over, he precariously dangled over the edge.

"Come here you," Fishing the little one away from danger and her swishing white tail, Taley tilted her head, allowing his soft fingers to graze over the soaked cartilage of her ears. Reaching out, little fingers found themselves grazing over the flattened fur, his own mottled wings flapping happily at the sudden contact.
"He's not mine mine, I...I found him, well, more like he found me," Taley tried to stutter out, nervous red cheeks finding their way behind her fur. Tightening her light grip, the newly fledged author watched her charge. A smile pressed at her lips, twitching the purple tipped ear within his fingers.

"Oh really?" The cashier teased, wrapping up the bundle of chips and battered fish. Pulling out a plastic bag, she delivered the steaming hot wrapping into the plastic - wisps of hot air swirling and condensing around the edge of the bag. Like the steam off a mug of coffee, they swirled around the bag as tea was exchanged for gold.
"Wait, wait." Raising her hands in defeat to the beaten teenager, she un-hooked the jar of sticky sweets. Plunging hand into jar, she fished out a lollypop, dangling it in front of the Tale's nose.

Like any child, Fai reached out for this sticky treat. Wrapping his fingers around the plastic stick, the young Tale hesitantly gazed at the red lolly. With caution, and one eye closed, he licked over one side of the circular sugar treat; as if to decide whether it was a bitter sweet taste. Of course it wasn't, the Tale smiling despite himself, plopping the sweet into his mouth.

"Thanks, see you soon!" Smiling, Taley watched the little boy busy himself with the treat, heading on out for the door. The hinges rattled behind them, a soft tinkering of the bell being lost on the breeze rustling behind them.

It was only a short walk home. A short, yet rather loud one. The guardian spoke in length to the young human, while the two and a half year old just watched her with a mix of admiration and awe. Brown orbs seemed to slip on the way, a yawn escaping his throat: the first sound he'd pronounced all night long. The long flight of stairs up to the forth floor seemed endless, as each stair way flew by like a nights speed. Each painted door, each kitchen with its own smell, so many places to explore with so little time to do it.
Yet, upon the last flight of stairs, they stopped before a lilac door. Swinging the wood on its hinges, Fai was deposited onto a cushiony sofa. All around him sat patchwork sheets, even the sofa was branded with its own grey and white sheet. Yet, little orbs barely took it all in, fluctuating open and then closed.

"Shush..." A blanket wrapped around his back, his author sitting on the floor beside him, resting her palm onto his back. Fai shifted, his little feet curling up to one side around him, one hand reaching out from beneath the mass of sheets Taley had exulted him in.
"I'm here, now sleep." The author whispered soothingly, her furry fingers meshing with his thorn covered ones. They both sat there, each knowing things were going to change. Change for the better mind, but life was about to change.

It wasn't long until he was asleep, lulled by the blankets rustling around his form, and the soft singing anyone can find in an endless silence. A silence now filled by the pair of them.

16th of April, 2006. How do you look after a child?
Part one.

"Welcome to another day in Barton. The sun is shining - the rain is pattering against the window. What more could you want? Shake your wings and tails out of bed and ---"

The languid silence filled the air, spiraling over two tiny ears. A pair of light blue wings twitched, soft chick feathers brushing up against his leathery confining goggles. Gently, one feather brushed to the next, un-lodging a lock of darker blue hair over his forehead - the same lock finding its way to mesh a barrier over the little ones eyes.
His mouth opened half way, pulling those softer brown orbs open. He blinked, once, and then thrice again; hazel pupils adjusting to the new light.

"Good Morning." Just across from him sat his Author. A pair of orbital white ears flickered against her skull, soft furry fingers pulling in to drag the Tale away from his warm cocoon of blankets and sofa. He barely said a word, barely did anything in this new light. Hazel eyes just glanced this way and that, limbs going numb once he found himself squished up against the-oh-so-familiar hip.

"What to do with you, eah?" Taley questioned, a rhetorical question of course, making her first move towards the kitchen. The two and a half year old in question brought his arm up, scraping his rather chubby wrist over his eyes. His socked feet kicked out, coming smoothly back into contact with a pair of rougher jeans.
Best not try that again, his hazel eyes explored the surrounding area - poured over every meticulous detail of this tiny flat apartment. Over the dresser and its stack of paper, over the coffee table in the corner, (held up with a large set of what appeared to be Geography text books) and then finally over that of his haunting rest last night; the sofa.
"It's not much, but it's home." He glanced up at her comment, his cheeks spreading in a smile. He positively beamed, after all: what would it matter to a young child what the room looked like. It was home after all.

From deep within a mass of washing, something buzzed. Demanding to be heard, the phone rattled, sending an un-tidy heap of t-shirts and trousers crashing to the floor.

Taley winced.

The quickest movement yet, Fai's arms instantly found themselves entangled in a mass of cotton white t-shirt, clinging on for dear life. Eyes wide, his chin slowly lifted to watch his adoptee 'parent's' reaction. Unluckily for him, hers wasn't much different from his - soft white ears faltering back against her hairline, white tail flapping around to firmly tag behind one furry tipped knee.

The machine didn't care: it kept buzzing. Like an angered child, it shielded itself from the outside world, the buzzing now returning more as a merry tune of old - a ringing that faltered around the whole flat one ring after the next, filling the empty walls with its sound. The radio broke in on top of it, the latest zany presenter apparently introducing the next show. However, nobody took any notice of that.
"Coming, coming." Exhaling a long breath, paws trod over the carpeted floors, leaning down to swipe up the phone from its hook.

"Hello, Taley? It's Owyln," Of course it would be the polar bear. Bouncing the Tale on her hip, the guardian trailed as far as the phone lead would take her. Intrigued, the little boy grappled with the cord, little hands making nimble work of 'fighting' with the cord. The silver snake swayed from one side to the other, the coiled end caught around chubby fingers - the new found hero happily tightened his grip, holding it still - it would hold there and not hurt anyone. In the meantime, his ears strained for the converse above him.

"Thank goodness, Owyln I have a massive problem." Time to let it all out. Spinning around in the circle, the furry teenager flopped out onto the sofa behind her. The tiny Tale positively swooned as the air flushed around him, eyes growing wide as his covered rump hit the pillows below. Reaching his arms out to steady the fall, he promptly leant himself over one side of Taley's white shirt.

"Problem? What's up Kiddo?" It took a while, but Fai steadied himself with a little help. Reaching around, Taley tucked the phone underneath one rounded ear, pulling the Tale jauntily onto her lap. She couldn't be an Author, could she? She had NO clue whatsoever of how to look after a child, never mind a toddler as young as this one appeared to be.

"A problem, a massive problem, Owyln! I went looking for some manuscript yesterday, just some manuscript- I didn't ask for anything else. Found myself in a study, with bells, and there was this tome...and-" The person on the other side of the phone took in a deep breath. Her features dropped, tail swimming around beside her to swish across the side of the couch - right over Fai's bedding from the night before.

"Owyln, I walked out with a child. Went in for some manuscript and came out with a two year old. I can't be a guardian, can I?" Two pairs of hazel eyes left the surroundings and met with grey bi-coloured eyes, imploring his very gaze to bore into the soul. The furry girl softened, running her fingers around to tap Fai's nose gently. He twitched the appendage, his ears flattening against her arms.

"Guardian, eah?" Owyln chuckled on his breath, it was an odd occurrence after all. Pulling a face, Taley rolled her fingers around to ruffle the lad's hair. Reaching his arms up, the Tale's arms nimbly wrapped around Taley's wrist: pulling it down to rest his cheek against her dark purple stripes. That was it, the furry girl almost melting into a pile of mush.

"Tell you what, come on up here, eah? I'm sure we have some things lying around the house you could use, if you fancy it?" It was exactly what she had been waiting to hear from the man. Her ears cocked back up against her head, the tip of her tail wavering in the air.

"Please, see you soon?" No reply was given, rather the phone mysteriously went dead on the other end. Fai, still wrapped up in Taley's wrist, just tightened his grip - tilting his chin to gaze questioningly up at her. What were they going to do now? Fly on the moon?

To be continued...

16th of April, 2006. How do you look after a child?
Part two.

The rain pattered down from the sky, touching the wind-swept pavements with its presence. Water seeped into tiled pathways, sweeping the grains of yellow gold over and into the cracks where others lay. If a child had walked passed, these crystals may have been noticed, but under this dismal clouding, nothing was left un-turned. The odd water-droplet spat off the stone, bouncing off the igneous rock like a trampoline back into the atmosphere: only to fall a moment later and shatter like a clay pot upon the ground.

Up above, a seagull soared over the horizon - grey tipped wings bent to glide along the wing. It squawked, opening its yellowed beak out, just to close it a minute later and spiral round. Pulling its hefty wings to the wind, it turned completely, swooping down towards the sea below. Like an expert pilot, the bird scurried towards the rocks. Pushing its guttered talons out, the creature found its way back into a crevice in the rocks: back to where its nest happened to be.

A large house sat upon the cliffs talus, seeming to rest right into the clouds. Despite the rain, a yellow bundle of a rain-mac almost ran up the steps. Ran, apart from clutching a smaller orange covered being. Fai, nestled between a yellow raincoat and a red t-shirt, almost squeaked as they bounded up the stairs and towards the door. His hands were held above his head, one thorn-covered arm caught into the coat - the thorns peeling out from the side of the yellow material. His other latched onto the edge of his goggles, chubby fingers curling around the leather strap.

Even before the pair of them reached the wooden door, the entrance opened up. On the other side stood a man, appearing in his late twenties, with a pair of fluffy white ears not too different from the pair sitting on Taley's head. Both grey and hazel eyes lifted to meet his gaze, one smiling, while the other looked on in confusion.
"Come on in, there's a dry towel on the table." With an approving smile from the teenager, the young Tale found himself being situated gently on top of the massive oak table. His legs slipped out from underneath him, sending the toddler involuntary forwards into a safely coat-cushioned parking. That was the next thing to learn - how to crawl and walk.

"Hello little guy." Bending down, the polar bear man came face to face with the Tale. Fai, still presently attached to his Author via the raincoat, smiled happy - relentless of the fact he had only just seen this other person, never mind having been introduced. His wings flapped against his head, sending a mass of blue locks of hair before his face.
Owyln just chuckled, reaching a hand out to gently tussle the little boy's hair.

"Sorry to bother." Reaching out, Taley gradually started to untangle the thorns from her raincoat. Wriggling out of both sleeves, the furry teenager put all her furry fingers to the job, gently pulling each single thorn from the material. It was a long and almost in vain process of pulling, un-tangling and releasing Fai.

"No no, don't worry about it. Ely and Frozen's asleep, otherwise I would have brought the pair of them down to meet him." Taley winced, pulling back as a thorn slipped over her fur covered finger. Shifting where the young Tale was, he glanced down at his arm: still deeply ravelled in a mess of yellow raincoat.
"Thorns?" Owyln repeated, this wasn't any ordinary child. Yet, somehow, he reminded him of Ely when he'd first met the riddle.

Taley just nodded, leaning over to pull the last thorns from his coat. It was wrecked, odd holes formed across the arm of the coat mixed with scrapes around the edges: it wouldn't be useable without a fair few stitches again. Except, one thing was strange. Despite all the pulling and tugging the thorns stayed put- intact on Fai's arm. Where anyone would have expected a mass of arm and blood, he seemed un-phased: the young Tale just beamed happily up towards the two authors.

"All done." Bending down to Fai's level, Taley bent over to wrap him up within her arms. Leaning forwards, Fai lapsed up against her grasp. The end of his nose twitched, opening his mouth - and he sneezed.

---------------

Warm water gushed into a large cream tub, splashing over a luminous yellow duck. The duck in question had two black spots for eyes, bobbing up and down like a ship on stormy water. Water gushed over its tiny head, flipping and pushing it right out of harms way. The duck flew over, swimming to safety, but not without regrets. As the last wave of water hit, the yellow creature flipped over onto its back, the head bobbing and diving for fish underwater - leaving the flat bellied creature's stomach flipping into view with its in-crested maker mark.

"A warm bath should sort out those sniffles, eah?" Back in the furry's flat, Taley shifted where she sat. Put one elbow into the tub he had said, put one elbow into the tub - check the temperature, if it was too hot put more cold water in. Common sense really. Bath at nights tend to wind up the evening before bed.

Fai, presently sitting on the floor, gazed up towards his guardian. A sleepy smile sat on his face, reddened cheeks covered with his hands. The thorns on his arms slid back against his cheeks, almost lovingly seeming to pulse against his skin. The sharpened garden material slid back, spikes turning to soft mush once in contact with Fai's baby cheeks.

Sitting there, Taley just watched the little lad preen his cheeks over. One furry paw strayed over, everything would be alright - right? Everything would be just fine, and she knew it deep down. With a squeak, she wriggled her fingers along Fai's sides - causing an excited giggle to emit from the little lad. Gently, she pulled his top off, releasing the circular strip of material from around his arm.

Loose from his bonds, Fai fell back to the floor. Pushing out of his trousers, he chuckled happily as he was lifted up into his guardian's arms. His goggles stayed, she hadn't bothered to fight with him yet over them - yet.
Rather, the girl was occupied with checking the temperature of the bath. One elbow leant into the water, furry tips of her elbow meshing with the luke warm water. She sighed with relief.

Lowering him into the tub, the girl audibly gasped. Fai's back was covered in a lurid design. He just turned his head towards her, a look of confusion flashing over his face as her orbs followed the gentle swirling lines over his back, followed each swirl that curled around to form a pair of wings.
"Wings..." It was barely an audible whisper, but Fai curled a little at the comment. Reaching over, he pulled the dunked duck from its position underwater, gently placing it back on top of the flowing sea that was the bathtub.

The duck almost swelled, happily bobbing back along towards Fai - where it was greeted with loving swipe across the water. If it could, its yellow plastic tail surely would have wagged.

16th of April, 2006. How do you look after a child?
Part three.

The moon shone brightly above, clearing the way from the sun before the hourglass handed it over. The stars tickled the blank landscape, lighting up the way for the many travelers of Gaia that night. Towers of man-made housing threw themselves up onto the canvas like paint, including one large tower block, complete with several lights around the outside: in the end, it looked more like an old, but cared for, Christmas tree in this vast forest of housing.

Up on the fourth floor, an old cat slunk by the windows: hissing and screeching as it wore off any subentry prey that followed after him that night. His dark black coat was littered with new white hairs, bright yellow orbs searching the empty streets for anything new. As always, nothing was found. Nothing apart from the old dustbin's keeling over into the streets, and his old mate calling him from the floor below. She was as beautiful as ever in his eyes, so the male (miraculously) jumped down from his perch to meet her; nuzzling his grey cheek into her paler ginger.

Inside room number four hundred and seventy-eight, it seemed to be a completely different story. The heavy draped blinds were closed, visions of any outsiders spying, flying away on the breeze. Behind the hefty cotton, a rather furry author found herself parked on the floor, doing her best to put a cot-like bed together.
Across on the other side of the room, a tiny two and a half year old sat on the sofa. Wrapped up in a fluffy towel, his damp head wings fluttered meekly- each dripping water like a tap onto his covered shoulder blades. He scrunched his nose up, hazel eyes watching intently the work of a not-quite-building-genius Author trying to build his new bed.

"I know you'd prefer a proper bed, but this is the best we could come up with at short notice." Muzzle deep in an instruction manual, one light grey eye lifted from the page. Bringing his arms up, Fai clapped both hand in front of his mouth - hiding that distinct smile beneath it all. Well, a smile was contagious.
Leaning over, the furry girl tapped on the radio. A light blew up on the machine, the green light flickering and faulting on and off as the mast did its best to search for the signal needed.

"-- And now we have Karma Chameleon by The Culture Club."

Fai's wings almost perked, sopping wet appendages flapping as the start of the song began. It sent water all over his towel and cheeks, but he didn't really care. With a smile set on her face, the young teenager set about pulling out various planks of wood of varying different sizes and different degrees of thickness.

Whistle while you work: well, the pair of them did exactly that. Taley hummed along to the track, joyfully swishing her white tail along the floorboards behind her. Though not quite as perceptible, Fai gurgled quite happily along to the tune.
Questionably, Taley started to piece the different sections together. Piece 'A' went with section 'D': it was like unraveling a mystery where the only detective in this story was the creator of this magnificent bed, who happened to live in some un-known town, with some un-known name and more than likely some strange grasp of the English language to decipher an instructions manual.

Sooner or later, after some worrying outcomes, Taley finally did it. The Author heaved a long sign of relief, falling back onto her rump to look over her masterpiece. Before them stood a cot like structure, bar it was about the size of a single bed, only with strong wooden beams around the edge that could fall down if needed.

"All done!" With a squeak of exclamation, the Author turned around to glance at her Tale. The young Tale, eyes half closed, was leant up against one patchwork pillow. He opened his mouth, emitting a large yawn. Large leather goggles slipped down from his head, sliding over his tired face - learning to rest just above the bridge of his nose.
His wings, seemingly tired, drooped - the odd droplet of water falling down from his shoulders, just to be absorbed by the fluffy blanket wrapped around his smaller frame.
"It's been a long day, hm?" Leaning over, Taley scooped the Tale into her arms. Without resistance, Fai slid back into the young girl's lap, not even battering an eyelid. Bringing his arm up, he rubbed over his eyes once more - the thorns not even penetrating the towel around him at this late hour.
The Author couldn't help but smile, lifting the little lad up to place him back onto the new softer mattress. He slid back, his softer wings flickering as he started to doze. After all, it had been a rather eventful day for the two and a half year old.

Leaning over as quietly as she could, Taley prized the one item she had not studied yet from beside the sofa cabinet. The dark blue tome. She could have sworn it was her hand-writing. Running her fingers along the spine, she flicked open the front cover - there was his name, and the question plus answer she had answered in that room.

Her fur almost stood on end, sending a shiver down her spine. Everything was so clear. Placing the book back where it was, she pulled out a plain blue diary underneath- strangely, it was the same colour as the Tome. Owyln had given it to her, to record every move, and every step Fai made. Opening it up, she pulled out her fountain pen and began to write.

Entry 001
Dear diary (Wait, dear Taley? Or maybe even dear Fai?)

As you'll know by now, or at least you will do in a moment, I can't stand writing journals. It was always a loathsome hatred of mine, and I have to say it still is. So at this point I'm now asking myself exactly why I'm writing this - my reasoning? Fai.

I walked into this stationary store yesterday for some manuscript, you know- the ones with the thicker lines. Just for some music homework, that was it. Bar, EVERYWHERE was sold out - I went from high to low searching, without one clue nor one way of finding this script paper. Well, as luck would have it, I wandered passed a small (but quaint I may hasten to add) stationary store.

My gosh.

I don't know if it was fate, or I don't know if it was just pure coincidence: but I didn't walk out of that store alone. A little robot met me at the door, rather sweet little thing offered to go upstairs to collect my paper - while she was downstairs I happened to be lured (not really lured, but more curiosity got the better of me) into a study with a Tome on the writing table.

Books shouldn't spit under any circumstances, right? Of course if they're demented under Aunt Mavis' curse then the might happily purr if you stroke the spine - but this one spat a pen at me, then proceeded to ask questions.

After all questions and answers were done, it was happy enough to kill my senses off with a bell and then drop Fai out of heavens knows where onto the table. Now, please don't get me wrong if you ever read this Fai, you've become (already) a new centre to life that I'm sure will be needed- but books giving away children is another thing all together.

Luckily, Owyln was on hand to help today. So here goes with the list of things to do (slash work out) tomorrow:
1. Go buy some clothes for the lad, afraid he's still in the outfit I picked him up in (bar he's now got one of Ely's pj bottoms).
2. Sort out any eating problems. So far today he's had two glasses of milk, and really the same as me - spaghetti on toast. So hopefully things will be fine.
3. Go back to the stationary store. The little robot mentioned about there being others - well, it might be best to try and find other children like him.

For now at least. He's really is lovely though- he hasn't cried once (yet), and happens to be highly complacent in matters of meeting people. Owyln said he'd introduce him to Ely next time I n** over, which I really ought to do sometime next week.

Until then, I'm off to bed.
Signing out for the night.
- Taley.
