Emmy opened the door.

She was still wearing the same clothes that she'd had on earlier in the day when she'd been streaming, although she'd adjusted them some for comfort. Her blouse had a few buttons undone, and she was only wearing sheer no-show socks, not shoes.

She looked over her guest, not quite able to hide the appraisal in her gaze, but he was dressed as sharply as his texts would suggest. Nothing was out of place, and Emmy smiled.

"You look nicer than your picture," she told him. "Handsome, really. That's always a treat."

The car got an approving glance, too. Emilia was not the type to lavish praises on men for owning expensive things, but it was nice.

"Come in. Welcome," she said, and the door opened straight into the living room, which made things easier. Instead of lingering, she gave him a quick wave in, and then moved quickly to make sure that she was the one to sit near the spill so that he would not have to. "I've got a glass poured for you. This is the import I was talking about."

When she took a moment to appraise him, he took that as clearance to do the same, letting his eyes scan over her form, how she chose to dress that form, and what it implied of her own preference. By the time she smiled, his eyes had wandered back to hers, and his lips quirked upward in a smirk he had found himself wearing fairly often while they spoke.

He couldn't quite get it off his face.

"I would say same to you, but I can tell your skills as an influencer by how good you looked in your photos, too." As he took the invitation to slide inside, he followed that up with, "Of course, still better in person."

The smirk had become something rakish momentarily as he assessed the rest of the environment. Fairly pristine living room--reminded him of a waiting room house magazine. That was not in itself an insult, far from it if she was looking to impress the right people. Minimalism was the popular house decor style of the day.

The alternative was maximalism, and that just looked... Sloppy.

"Very kind of you, Emmy." He slipped over to the couch, taking the spot away from the spill the way she had planned. In return, he set the box of chocolates on coffee table, shooting her a smirk as he did so. "Figured we could use something good to pair with the wine."

Cheese would have been a good pairing too, but in situations like this one it required so much unnecessary overhead.

"There should be a fairly decent variety contained in that box." He lifted the wine to his nose, then, first swirling it to sample the smell, then to his lips to take a sip.

"Good taste, I see."

He was suave on top of everything else. Emmy could give him that. She was hardly the type to blush and giggle, but when he complimented both her photographs and beauty all at once, she gave an appreciative nod, the prideful smile never far from her lips.

The wineglass was safer in his hands than any of its companions has been earlier in the evening. He wasn't going to drop it.

He wasn't going to drop it and then send his husband in to apologize in his stead.

Emmy felt confident in that, confident enough that she took her eyes off of him for a moment, long enough to look over the chocolate that he'd brought as his gift. With her manicured, red fingernails, she picked one of the darker squares out of its slot, and she brought it to her lips after taking her own sip of the wine. It turned out there were almonds inside, which gave it a nice crunch.

"Delicious," she told him. "And an excellent pairing, too."

Her eyes flicked back to him.

"We were talking about your heritage, weren't we?" she asked. "You know, I've heard Mediterranean men make excellent lovers."

There was no point beating around the bush. He was attractive. She wanted to get her mind off of things.

Her confidence that he would keep himself composed was well-placed. He sat relatively still in his position, only shifting to cross one leg loosely over the other. Adam swirled his wine glass idly, but the wine never arched to the point where it risked cresting the walls of the glass, simply lifting the scent of the brew to his nose easier when he sipped from it.

He watched her as she appraised his gift and plucked one of the chocolates out of its slot. He gave a small nod of approval at the choice of dark chocolate, but said nothing else of it until she took a taste of her own.

"Thank you," and the way Adam's voice dipped for a moment hinted that perhaps he had taken delicious as a personal compliment as much as a compliment to his choice in the arrangement.

Mission accomplished on that one.

"Oh, we do," and perhaps he had been correct to take it as a personal compliment. He licked the edge of his lip as he lifted his wine glass to take one more sip, his eyes wandering from her for a moment to observe the wall. A moment, then another, then his eyes slid back to her as he added, "You are welcome to find that out."

Adam was quite happy to skip all premises.

"Perhaps you can confirm the rumors."

There was always the chance of rejection, even once you had someone in your home. After Emmy made her comment, she sipped at her wine some more, making sure to keep her eyes on the decorative pillows, or the view from the window, places where she wouldn't seem overly invested in the response.

It was at the invitation that her gaze snapped back to him, the usual unflinching intensity behind her eyes dimmed only slightly by the drinks she'd had over the course of the night. It had been only a few, with enough time in between that the warmth in her chest hadn't picked back up until just now, as she came towards the bottom of this current glass.

Between that feeling and his offer, it was easy to smile at him, even after how the rest of her day had gone.

Yes, there was always time to turn things around.

"True, it's always better to know things first hand," she said, that smile going away again as she pressed her lips together for just a moment in a show of considering. Her gaze didn't falter, and soon she nodded. "Yes, I'd love for you to show me."

She didn't chug her drink. She wasn't a barbarian, regardless of circumstances. However, she did take the last few sips of wine faster than she might have otherwise. Then, she put the empty glass on the coffee table between them, and she stepped around it to come closer to Adam.

"Excellent."

That had been what he had planned when he originally opened the app, after all. A transition to an engaging conversation and a fine drink had been an unplanned piece of the night, but that didn't come with a complaint. It was good to know the person he was interacting with had a brain on their shoulders.

But as he set his own wine glass down, he decided it was time to transition out of the conversation that had wound and twisted on the app.

She stepped around the coffee table and stepped closer.

So he leaned back.

And beckoned.
