Atticus soothed his heart in a way he didn’t know he needed. It wasn’t an injury he could see so it wasn’t an injury he thought about. “I’ll tell you more, tomorrow,” he promised.
Elliot peeled the blanket back, expecting that Atticus might be getting close to getting back in bed. “Wait, I want to hear them, too,” he protested. He wasn’t planning on spending the night again, but he could probably get away with it if he asked. “Will you call me when you’re telling more stories?”
Devyn almost laughed, but Elliot’s enthusiasm was appreciated. “I’ll tell you stories, too. We’ll figure it out. But I haven’t done either of you any favors, I’ve just kept you up for longer. I’ll tell you more tomorrow. Before it gets too late. Come on,” he stood up, but kept an arm wrapped around Atticus so he could guide him back to the bed. “Let’s get you tucked in. Michael’s been out there for a while, so maybe I need to go check on him and carry him to bed before he stays up too late, too.”

Atticus giggled softly at the thought of Devyn carrying Michael, or vice versa. Not because it was funny! It was sweet.
He let Devyn lead him to the bed and he climbed in and immediately curled up next to Elliot, whose hand he reached for to hold as well.
“Tell Michael we say goodnight, too. Again…” he smiled sheepishly, because they had gone to bed a while ago. But now that they had their phones plugged in and they were going to be going to sleep for real, he thought they deserved another wish goodnight.
“Love you, Dad,” Atticus yawned and nuzzled close to Elliot.

Devyn waited by the side of the bed, until Atticus was comfortably snuggled up against Elliot, and he drew the blankets up over the both of them.
Elliot immediately wrapped his arms around Atticus, because even if he might have been comfortable just sleeping on his back next to him, they seemed to always wind up tangled together in odd positions anyway. He liked being close to Atticus, conscious or not, and he couldn’t help that he wiggled around in bed while he slept!
And anyway, Atticus was warm, and being pressed so close immediately meant he’d get to sleep quicker. Which was good, because they had stayed up late.
He was already sure he was going to have good dreams, though. He wanted to imagine Alastor–how it was now, what they could explore. How it had been before. He wanted to hear more stories, about all of it.
“I love you too, Atticus.” Devyn’s voice was soft, partly because Atticus was so endearing, and partly because he wanted the boys to stay sleepy and get some rest. “You two have good dreams. If you need anything, you know where to find me.”
He moved the chair back to the desk and made his way to the door, taking one last glance at the two before he smiled and stepped out. He kept the door open a crack, just as as he’d found it, and went to go find Michael.
