Something suddenly clicked into place… Vermina raised her chin and marched over to her daughter. “I don’t expect you to do anything that you don’t wish to do,” she said firmly as she wrapped her arms around the delicate frame of her daughter. “You don’t have to worry about what everyone else thinks. I know you are wonderful and strong in ways that they are not.” She squeezed her eyes shut and pressed a kiss to Seiong’s hair. “For instance.. You always check to make sure anyone you see fall is okay.”

Seiong’s eyes widened at the sudden embrace and words. After a long moment, she turned to burrow against her mother’s chest. A different strength.. She didn’t quite want to admit it, but she did feel a hint of pride knowing she was more likely than those snobs to check on others. She cared about her peers.. A lot. Perhaps it was time to care a little less…? “Why can’t they see it?” she asked softly.

Vermina’s hand rose to brush over Seiong’s hair. Her daughters were each unique and wonderful, and Seiong was no different in that regard. “We tend to be raised up to believe in the community ideals.. And some follow those expectations more than others. It can lead to them being somewhat narrow-minded.” She pulled back enough to raise Seiong’s face and finally meet her gaze with a soft smile. “That doesn’t mean their ideals are wrong, but neither are yours. Aishans in general value physical ability, but that doesn’t mean we should disregard all the other skills that we are capable of having.”

Seiong finally let her gaze rise, and a tiny smile rose. “Do you mean it?” It was one thing to have the unconditional support of her family, but sometimes.. Sometimes, more was needed. She didn’t know her part in the community just yet, and the pressure was getting to her. Knowing her family would have her back no matter what though… it made continuing forward easier.

“I absolutely mean it,” Vermina assured with a kiss to Seiong’s forehead. She couldn’t help thinking back to a conversation she’d had with her other daughter, Odina. It had been pretty much the opposite of this, but she meant it just as much as she meant this. Whatever skills her daughters chose, she was going to give them all the support that she could. Physical skill, mental skill, emotional skill… it all was important in the grand scheme of a solid community.
