Kai
Solo: Far From Home
Words: 614
Kai was leaving home for not necessarily better things, but more exciting things. He wanted to explore - get out and see the world outside of the islands. His parents were a bit hesitant about him leaving so quickly, but they eventually relented and allowed him to go off on his own. He was glad for their support, and promised to visit, though he wasn't sure when that would be. He had decided his first stop would be Belrea. He'd heard about it from some travelers, and while he'd initially considered swimming there, he realized that was probably not a smart option. So instead he would take boat over. That would be safe enough. No chance of getting tired out from swimming. As long as he found himself aboard a good ship and not a potential pirate ship he'd be okay, and so he had! He'd had to bargain his services in order to travel on the ship, but he had done so after a few tries. The captain had let him sleep in the cargo bay on a small cot, and he'd even been allowed to each dinners with the crew. It had been a neat experience he would not have had living with his parents. Once he had arrived in Belrea from the ship he had set out to experience the most he possibly could. He'd read a little bit about the different earthlings as they were called, their different features intriguing him the more he saw about them. The captain and crew had been earthings, and they had explained a little bit, but still he wanted to learn more. While on the ship he had listened to their stories, and their songs. He liked watching them play their instruments too. Kai hadn't ever considered a career, but thinking about the musical prowess of the crew excited him. He would learn to sing and play an instrument. Once he found out what instrument he liked. They also told stories with their songs! If he gathered up enough stories and an instrument to go maybe he could really learn. But that would be a later goal. How much later? Well he wasn't sure. For now he would focus on wandering around Belrea for just a little bit. His parents had worried that his need to wander would get him into trouble, and wanted him to have a goal wherever he went. He didn't exactly agree with that request. He was someone who didn't make plans or goals, and he had told them this. No reason to hide the fact that he had no real goals from them other than his need to travel. Well, he supposed he did have one partial goal. Finding anything to enhance his beauty was always something he looked out for, but he wouldn't exactly call it a goal he actively pursued. More of a constant lingering desire. But traveling and finding interesting things was a must. Above all else he wanted experiences, and if that meant doing things he wouldn't usually do, or even approaching random people to find these experiences he would do it. He'd encountered a few random people already. A man who was a.....lightning man. And also a butcher. He'd watched him at his counter cutting meat until the man had asked what he was looking at. Which he had explained. Then the man had pointed him to the markets and told him where sights and smells a plenty could be found. Overall, Kai was far away from home now with no real ideas other than learning all he could. Every moment was an adventure and he would gladly pursue whatever whimsy his brain focused on.

Kai
Solo: More Music
Words: 308
Kai liked to travel. He liked to listen to people he encountered, and on top of that he enjoyed the variations of music he encountered. He'd never considered himself particularly talented with music, but he could sing. A tune here, a distracted hum there, singing was something that he enjoyed even if he hadn't considered it an actual job he could have. It was only in these travels of his, far away from his home and his parents, that he considered actually pursuing this train of thought. He'd seen minstrels and musicians in every town he’d wandered through, all of them spinning their elaborate tales of adventure and excitement through song and dance. He loved every second of it. Being able to perform like they could and telling stories with his voice was like a dream. Kai wasn’t trained or naturally talented. He had practiced some of course, but wasn’t near as good as the interesting earthlings he had encountered. That didn’t matter too much to him though. He would just have to practice! And if Alek decided to play the lute with him while they traveled he would be equally as thrilled. Now that he considered, however, his concern that Alek would even be willing to play for him was something he needed to think on. He would never force the other boy to do anything with him, but now that Kai had set his mind on being a musician like the others he had seen he did need some help with the musical part. Even if it was only to help him practice. The lute lessons Alek had described before seemed reasonable enough of an ability on his end for Kai to accompany with his singing. But he supposed he would just have to work hard and practice to really pursue this career goal of his.

Kai
Solo: You're So Vain
Words: 617
Kai was spending yet another day in the markets looking for things that he found to be pretty. He himself was already beautiful, but there was always room for improvement as far as beauty went. He liked having and wearing pretty things, and the diversity of colors and clothing that he found in Belrea attracted him like a moth to a candle. He'd tried the potions with Alek not too long ago that the merchant had said would enhance beauty, but it really hadn't worked. Maybe it had all been a lie? Either way, his desire to look even better had sent him to the markets today. He had considered finding some new hairpins to do his hair up differently, but overall he enjoyed his hair how it was. He had seen some pretty strands of different string woven into the hair of some and considered that, but he wouldn't even know where to begin on doing that every day. What if it got wet? Who would help him to reweave it all? Surely Alek would hate doing something like that, so no, no hair strings to decorate his brightly colored hair. He'd even considered the possibility of decorating his lure, but then again that seemed like it would be a little painful to deal with if jewelry was hanging right off his forehead. No, his best option was to look for certain makeups or skincare items. Some of his makeups from his stash he'd brought from home were running low anyway. The brightly colored eye makeups he'd gathered from the merchants there who crushed the items into pigments to use had all but run out, and some creams he had ended up drying out. It was frustrating to deal with, and he could feel even now his skin drying with each passing day. No one would want to speak to him or acknowledge him if he wasn't well taken care of, and he worried if Alek would even still enjoy their time together if he was dried out too much in the sun. The thought spooked him into action, the worry that Alek wouldn't like looking at him fueling his now hurried adventure. The first merchant stall he stopped at contained some makeup, which looked promising. The colors were not as exciting as what he would have found at home, these colors being more browns and golds to match the Belrean aesthetic, but he would not complain! Anything was better than nothing at all. His next stop brought him more luck though, an interesting earthling - a dark-skinned woman with pretty silver eyes, had even brighter items she was showing off. Lucky for him she also had several promising creams and lotions he could use. She took a long look at him as he shopped, and he worried that perhaps he was imposing too much by wandering in.
"You are....interesting to look at. I wonder why you need my items when you already look as you do," she commented and Kai let out a huff.
"Well frankly I always think I need to look better. I want to be the most beautiful person around after all," he explained, beaming at her even as she shook her head at him.
While most would call him incredibly vain, and to some extend he did agree, that did not stop him from pursuing all his finer beauty care items to enhance his own looks. It was one of his many joys, and if he was to be an enthralling bard soon then he would need to look incredibly distracting after all! While his trip had been successful, Kai knew he would inevitably be hunting down more products soon enough.
