It didn't take them long to reach the Chiavi, which gazed curiously at them from within its enclosure.
"Oh ho! Look at you! Boys I think we are in luck." The bird hopped closer to them, nipping at the mesh of its cage. "Still fresh and not bored, what a pretty creature. Sad the Raptrix was as yet off limits but this one now... looks downright willing."
He was careful not to put his fingers through, but he could tell from the exuberant body language that they had found a coconspirator in their endeavor.

Innsaei had paused on the way to check the xaaran eggs, make sure they were turned. If they really did go flying, no telling when the boys would get back. By the time he caught up to them, the Chiavi was already at the pen, making curious movements. Most of what the young adventurer got off the great bird was restlessness, a desire to be out and about, not roosting all day. Sure he wasn't hungry, but there was a joy to speed under your own power, even on the ground. Auntie Ein got that better than most grownups, he found.
Eyes had gone wide, clear with wonder and curiosity of his own. Instinctively, he began to match the downy beast's movements, step for step, tilt for tilt, look for look. When he glanced away, even with peripheral vision, he looked for chiavi snacks. Birds ate rodents mostly, right? Huntin' birds, anyhow. Saei did, in fact, have some birdseed on him, but that wouldn't quite cut it here. The wandering thoughts led his eye to the gear, though the avian never left his view. "Let's figure out the saddle 'fore we go farther. How's it wrap 'round him? How's it strap us in?"

He took note of Saei going to check on something else so he lingered a bit but managed to barely keep both brothers in view. When the three of them were once more together he took the time to watch the Chiavi. The bird was big enough for all three of them and seemed to have the energy for it.
Of course he noticed Tathy getting close to the pen and Saei mimicking the avian behavior. All Jiu did was tilt his head to the side.
Again he said nothing but let his gaze wander over a few things. Then when the saddle was mentioned he looked toward it to see the set up. In the next second he was walking over to it so that he could inspect it up close. He'd seen it on the bird once before and with his memory he should be able to replicate that.

He thought that Saei was going about his business in a great way. Putting yourself in an animals body so to speak was a good way to figure out its way of thinking. A classic technique, and it looked like Jiu was going to solve the saddlery problem. Which left Tathy to double check the safety on the cage. There was a vestibule that they could enter that was a gateway to the enclosure with two doors so that flighty things had no chance to escape. This was comforting in many ways. They needed to be in control when they met the outside, he wanted to have fun not go on a chiavi hunt before they had to explain how it got out to anyone else.
The straps on the saddle looked good, he left Jiu to figure it out and spent a few moments watching the Chiavi's behaviour, how it moved, what motivated it. Small preylike movements seemed to catch its attention best, though it did not see the younglings as food, which was always nice.

With his smarter selves bent on solving the fiddly bits and technical matters of their plot, Saei was left to watch the hunter, get a read on their new friend. Had it been terribly hungry, they might have been food. Maybe. A pack of creatures the boys' size might give it more trouble than the meal was worth. But as things stood, they had that same smell as the earthling who fed him, who kept the roost cool and dry. Even moved a bit like him. This one was a hunter, a predator of the skies, not some tame chirping morsel to be petted. He might, however, tolerate their touch, as it usually meant food, grooming, or some form of freedom.
It was important, therefore, not to be prey, nor move or smell or think like it.The satance shifted, still moving with their guest, but more complimenting than mirroring now. "Think we oughta think like Grandpa here, move like him. Don't pet, squeeze or pinch. We're this guy's equals, we ain't here to make trouble." A pause then, as the situation caught up to the boy. "Not for him." When they started in, Saei would take the lead, keeping chiavi attention and keeping the whole affair calm...

Jiu 7
He saw Tathy moving out of the corner of his eye and that was enough for him to keep a read on where his brother was. Jiu seemed to always need to be able to see or at least be aware of the general location of his siblings. A little tick of his. It brought him peace of mind. He also made sure Saei was within eyesight too.
As the other two did their thing he did his. The saddle was fiddled with and eventually he knew which strap went where and buckled into what. So he lifted it up and walked over to Saei, some straps dragging across the ground. His pace was even and leisurely so as to not give the bird something to be threatened by. Once he reached his brother he looked down at the saddle then at the Chiavi before he nodded. He'd figured it out.
Then he made his way toward Tathy and the entrance to the enclosure. He would enter last and wait for the others to keep the beast calm before he moved to apply the saddle.

He opened the first gate and waited for his brother to enter. He had gotten his overview of the other two's specialties and had amalgamated it into a plan with the info his Brothers had given him. Should work if the birb was willing.
He fastened the outer door and opened the inner, allowing himself and Saei to approach the creature while Jiu held the saddle.
The head bobbed as they got closer, it looked like a greeting, like what happy perzi did when their owner approached. A good sign, so long as it wasn't calculating a pounce.
He spoke calmly to the animal and let Saei do his thing.

A wink tipped Jiu's way when they passed one another. Had they been another trio, the thought might have gone unnoticed. For Saei, people all but posted signs on what they thought or felt. His brothers, meanwhile, could be said to shout these things out, it was so obvious. At least to each other. Yellow eyes made sure to catch Tathy's, and shook his head once. The bobbing was no greeting; the creature was still taking their measure, getting a clearer picture. It knew the routine, but these were new earthlings, their mass not all bunched up into one shape.
Plumage remained poofed and fluffy about the torso, which bode well. Slimmer meant it was time for action, time to move quickly. The tuned boy continued to resist the urge to hug the chiavi about the body. There would be enough of that once the saddle went on. He didn't reach out to touch immediately, but continued his movements, dropping into a crouch that he'd seen Grandpa Kiyelt do. Noting a patch of inaccurately groomed feathers, he came a little closer and, slowly, began preening, rearranging the spot to lay alongside the others. Think I heard somethin' about chiavi likin' to groom each other? Hope it works. I like my hands.

Jiu 8
With the enclosure shut and the three of them locked in with the avian he waited for the signal that he could approach. While he stayed a respectable distance away he didn't show fear of the beast. Jiu knew better than to do that.
Instead he watched with keen eyes as Saei fixed some feathers that were out of place. That was a good thing - get on the Chiavi's good side.
The saddle was shifted slightly for a better grip but otherwise he remained still and continued to observe and take in the details he needed. Keeping them for later in case he'd need them.

He acknowled the input from Saei, and they worked the bird slowly until it had calmed enough that it was time for the saddle.
He flicked his head at Jiu, unwilling to turn his head as he would have with a herbivore. You never turned your back on a predator that you just met, no matter the species. That had been drilled into him by nearly every family member since he could walk as one of the top safety rules.
"He seems to be amenable." He commented to Jiu. "Good job Saei, that feather straightening was just the right touch I think."

An odd little noise came up the great bird's chest and out through the throat. A sost trilling, definitely a pleased sound. The behavior had crossed some wires in their favor, and it locked into a more social mindset. About the time the bird bent down and began to run that wicked beak along his own blue mop of hair, Saei beckoned with his free hand. Someone had to confirm Tathy's assessment. They wanted to make a new friend, not be that friend's early supper.
It would've been easy to be nervous when someone attempted to comb your hair with garden shears. And Innsaei was nervous, no mistake. Quips weren't much his thing, but even if they were, this was not the moment for him to do 'em. By now, though, his part in things had gone simple. Just go with it, keep still, keep its attention on returning the favor while his brothers secured the saddle. It had decided that they were oddly shaped chicks, or something along those lines. He just had to let the fear flow out smoothly, relax. And keep preening the downy coat for good measure...

With the acceptable behavior he moved forward a few steps, mindful to keep his eyes on the bird but not in such a way as to appear as a threat.
He did find it amusing that Saei was being groomed. He would have to mention that to him later just because. Then again, Saei did have the longer hair of the three of them.
When he was close enough he reached out, the saddle being left in the clutches of one hand to hang oddly, so that he could straighten a few feathers near where his brother was. He only did a few, letting the bird know he wasn't there to cause harm then moved a step back to gauge whether or not he could start with the saddle.

Acting on some instinct he could not explain, he reached for the head of the bird and guided it to him to hold gently, he looked into the great eyes and was mesmerized by the stunning intelligence he found there. What a magnificent creature the Chiavi was, so sweet that it groomed his brother back.
"Do you want to go for a ride?" Some fresh air ought to do them all good in fact!
"You are up Jiu." He smiled at the Chiavi.

For all its' beak could take about half his face away in one good snip, the beast was doing a fairly good job of combing through the tangles in Saei's hair. ...Even if it just sheared the worse ones clean out, the end result would undeniably be less messy than his previous state. If a little more ragged. That was okay, though: he was a hatchling, and they always looked messy.
Carefully, he worked his way up with a hand, shifting his fingers between strokes to get a wave off to Jiu. A signal for where to slip the main strap. No hurry, of course. Even with this big bird deciding to be friendly, they did not want to startle him, least of all Saei. This was a better worn saddle, already broken in. It was one that the chiavi had bourne before. One of the other two might remember short flights in the past month. It was all writ there on the bird and the saddle even if they didn't. They were in for a ride once they got out of the barn!

He heard that it was his turn and even saw the gesture from Saei. With that he moved in and began the process of settling the gear onto the large bird. He worked the straps and buckles as he remembered them going but made sure to be mindful of the Chiavi's comfort at the same time.
When he was sure the straps were the right way and in he tightened them as best as he could. Once they were secure he nodded his head in approval then looked at the other two. "Done." Now all that was left was to get the avian out into the open and get on.
