Eld didn’t pull away when Tyr stepped closer. Instead, he lifted his eyes to meet Tyr’s gaze.
Cautiously, and only because Tyr was touching his face and beard, Eld reached up to gently take hold of Tyr’s hand. He pulled it to his mouth to kiss. It was fleeting, light enough for Tyr to pull away if he wanted.
Eld hoped he wouldn’t pull away. He felt guilty for not knowing before, but since Tyr seemed willing to let things start new, well… Eld didn’t want to mess things up.
It was more than just having an ally, and more than just companionship. He remembered Tyr from before, remembered the way the Council seemed questionable. And yet he was too young and inexperienced to voice his concerns. Maybe if he had, Tyr wouldn’t have spent those years hating him.
“I would very much like that chance, Tyr.”

Tyr didn’t pull away.
Part of him thought maybe he should. A thousand years had gone by since last they saw one another. Tyr doubted they were the same people they used to be, despite the familiarity. Tragedy changed people. They could be strangers now, for all he knew.
But Tyr was so lonely. Earth might not be the decrepit hell that greeted him on Ymir, but the dangers were considerable. He wouldn’t survive here on his own. Tonight proved that. If he had to rely on someone, more than he’d already relied on Chris and Paris, he would prefer that it be someone he knew, someone he could almost trust.
Funny that he should trust Eld now, when he never would before.
With Eld there, something burned inside of Tyr, a small, almost insignificant light — almost like hope. He wouldn’t cling to it, but for once he let it flicker.
Tyr kept his hand on Eld’s face. He placed the other against Eld’s shoulder, bracing himself as he bent down.
The kiss he gave was just as fleeting, but it was only the first of many.
Later, as they laid beside one another with the sliver of moon casting a faint silver glow through the skylight in his room, Tyr slept comfortably, for the longest stretch of time since he’d woken from stasis.Guine Fin! 1 notch in the belt for Eld.
