“I’ve done that too,” Atticus chirped as he looked back up at Devyn. “If I find something nice, I usually bring it to my locker… oh…”
He paused and deflated a little.
“I guess I won’t be able to get anything out of my locker if I’m supposed to be hiding. And I don’t want anyone else to get caught trying to get anything from it.”
He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. This was okay. It was like starting completely new. He had nothing to his name, and a new name. But more important than anything was that he had people who wanted to help and protect him.
Atticus sat up straighter again.
“It’s okay. They’re just things like broken bits of jewelry I’ve found, or pretty rocks. A few bottle caps. Things like that,” he explained, since it really wasn’t that big of a deal. It wasn’t as though the rest of his art stuff hadn’t already been thrown out.
“Could I come with you? I’d like to see more of Sessrumnir,” he said, already working on pushing himself up onto his good foot so he could try not to limp after Devyn.

“Of course you can come with me, I’d like to show you more of Sessrumnir.” He held out his hand to help him up, not to rush him, but just to know that if he needed help, Devyn was there.
“If you give me your locker information, I can ask someone to get it for you. If someone can get your treasures, they will. My friends are very sneaky. And we all know this is hard for you. We want to make you as comfortable as possible.” If they couldn’t, he’d just share his collection with Atticus.
“What we can’t recover, we’ll replace.”
He looked at the paintings on the desk and couldn’t help but smile again. He didn’t want to put them away so soon, and he was sure that he and Atticus would be back to visit them again. “You’ll have to help me pick out which ones to bring back with me. Poor Michael, I’ll wind up filling his house with paintings if I keep getting trips to Sessrumnir. But I feel bad just leaving them hidden where no one can see. Ah,” he sighed, a little dramatic, but again with such fondness in his voice. “But we’ll have to have space for your paintings, too.”

Atticus had every intention of coming back to look at all the paintings, so he smiled when he noticed Devyn looking at them. And then took his offered hand. He didn’t need as much help, but he liked being able to hold Devyn’s hand.
“Okay, I can do that,” he agreed, still a little worried about getting someone else in trouble, but he knew that if Devyn said they’d figure it out, then they would. And if they couldn’t, that was okay too.
“We’ll just have to make sure we switch them out every so often. Is that okay?” he asked, because he knew he had a long way to go before he got as talented as Percy. And he would have a long time before he had as many paintings collected of his own. He could do smaller things, though. He would try to not take up too much space.

Devyn squeezed Atticus’ hand reassuringly as soon as his hand slid into Devyn’s. “I think that’s a good idea, Atticus. I’m lucky I ran into you, you’ve got good answers. I can’t wait to hear all of your ideas.”
Devyn wasn’t an artist, so he found himself valuing Atticus’ input more and more, especially when it was becoming so apparent that he had a good eye for detail. He wasn’t sure if Atticus knew that about himself, or if he was still in the very early stages of coming out of his shell, but they had time.
They had opportunity.
And, he was certain that by the time they got home, they’d have everything out of Atticus’ locker, too.
