Oh. She remembered that day well.

"A piece of pottery. I tried selling it, thinking it was something important. I don't know what. Maybe it wasn't, cause I got rejected by everyone but Chiro." Story finished, she lapsed into another small spell of silence. She had been trying to boost his confidence, but now it was hers that was starting to tank. This was her first time trying to instruct someone on how to do this and she felt like she was doing a very poor job of it. All they had been doing was walking for hours. Which, though this was a large part of what she actually did do, didn't make for a good lesson. Picking back up where she left off, Maia tried a more hands on approach. She got out a shovel and began pointing out good spots to dig and what to look out for. Kayde followed her instructions very well, even managing to find something in the end. It wasn't much, just a broken bit of glass. But as she'd said before, everything was useful. There were craftsman in the city who would pay a small fee for it, to melt down and make into something else. Especially considering it was quite beautiful, showing multi colors when put up to a beam of sunshine.

Kayde could feel the lessons starting to wind down. He'd learned a lot and was eager to use his free time tomorrow to put them into action.

They had made a circle back to the wagons, he ever vigilant that someone may notice. Disappearing into the forest with a stranger wasn't normal for him and questions would be asked. Being awful at lying, his secret would come out within five seconds of being allowed to answer. He made sure to keep on the path to behind his own wagon, using others as cover as much as he could. Fortunately, he had parked as far from the city as he could, so sneaking back wasn't too difficult. He debated if he should tell her he wanted this kept on the downlow, but decided against it. She didn't seem much like the gossip type. Most of what she'd said had been about hunting for things in the wilderness.

"Thanks for the crash course," Kayde said, trying not to sound too nervous now that they had returned. He stayed against the side of his wagon, the one facing the woods and away from the rest so he could hide.

While Maia did notice this, she kept her mouth shut. If there was some reason he was trying to be a bit secretive about it, it didn't really hurt her to go along with it. It wasn't like she was going to make a point to go see him, again. She'd go back to her job, only passing by a few times a month. The chances of her seeing him again were slim, with how often she was out in the field.

"No problem," she responded, keeping her own body hidden behind the side of the wagon. "I hope I managed to help."

"You did. I really appreciate it." Holding out his hand to shake, they bid each other goodbye, Kayde waiting a little bit before casually walking back to the front of his wagon. With one last look around him, showing him no one in sight in the maze of mobile homes, he opened the door and went inside, dropping his bag gently onto the ground by his bed. The sun had started to go down not too long ago, the world around him still cast in light for now. Too early to go to bed. Too late to do anymore practice. Lighting a candle, he climbed into a chair and picked up the dancing book from the side table.

The job was done. Maia walked through the organized mess of wagons, avoiding the clothesline as best she could. A few hanging around outside looked at her, but none said a word. Assuming she'd been visiting one of their own, probably. Which wasn't far off from the truth.

Near the road, a performance was under way. A lady walking and doing flips on a rope suspended far off the ground. The young Shifter watched for a few moments before turning towards the city. She'd report in with Chiro about the day and prepare for another hunting trip of her own tomorrow. She rarely spent more than a few days in the city. She was already eager to get back out into nature.
