“Yeah, they ask about you. They always want to know if you’re going to come over, if you want anything special for dinner, if you had any favorites at lunch, if you’ve seen this or that movie, if you’d heard about a gallery opening, a craft show, you know. All sorts of things. Usually during summer, at least one of them gets a part time job, but someone’s always been home with me. Mostly, at least. But it means they get a lot of connections, so that and being teachers means they usually know what’s going on.”
He was always happy to talk about his parents, who he was very proud of and loved very much–especially if it might help distract Chad from his distress. Especially because his parents seemed to have taken a quick liking to his new friend, too, and he wanted Chad to know that as often as possible.
With Chad a little closer, he pulled the blanket up to tuck him in again. “Too warm? Because I’m still a little cold, so if you are too, we can sleep right next to each other.”

“That’s really sweet of them to think about me,” Chad said quietly, both in awe and maybe a little sad. In awe because he respected Elliot’s parents very much, and this just made him like them even more. Sad because he could only imagine how many people out there would look at them, find out they were together, and then make their lives difficult for it.
And Chad had lived most of his life being told it was wrong. When in reality, it was unfair. They were really nice, wonderful people, and people treating them differently just wasn’t right.
“Not too warm,” he said after he took a breath to calm himself again. But he was already looking forward to being close to Elliot. “I don’t think I kick in my sleep. But if I do you can push me away,” he suggested. And since Elliot said that he was a little cold, Chad reached up to rub at Elliot’s arm and shoulder, hoping the friction would warm him up a little, before letting his hand settle against Elliot’s side, which he rubbed as well.
“Does that help any? I don’t mind sleeping closer.” In fact, he would very much like it.

“It does help, yeah. Sleep close to me, please.”
He suspected Chad wouldn’t have any complaints, and if it was Elliot making the request, then how could Chad feel bad about it? Elliot already figured that he would talk himself out of asking for things he wanted or needed, but Elliot was more than happy to voice it as his own want if it could give Chad any comfort.
And, anyway, it was comfortable. He liked it.
“I don’t think you’ll kick me. But I’ll let you know if you do. I’m not going to kick you. I might tease you, though. In the morning, though. If I remember.”
He stifled a yawn and just snuggled into the pillows.
“I’m really glad you’re over here, Chad. Just so you know. I hope we get to do this again. You know, when you don’t have to worry about anything.”

Well, since Elliot asked him to sleep close to him, how could Chad resist? Especially since he wanted to be close to him.
So he wiggled just a bit closer with his legs so they were just barely touching Elliot’s. And that was okay, right? If they were both cold, then they should definitely be closer. Which meant it was more comfortable for him to let his arm rest over Elliot’s waist, but he took that opportunity to gently rub at his back, hoping it would help to warm him up some.
“Thank you for letting me sleep over. I would like to do this again too,” Chad agreed with a stifled yawn of his own. “I like being with you.”
Elliot made him feel safe and comfortable. And it was very evident since it didn’t take long at all for Chad to drift off. Even if he wanted to stay up and talk to Elliot, he was just too tired.
