Alastor laughed once more, not for long, but the smile didn’t leave his face. “You’ll be in trouble when Soleiyu decides I’m ready to get back to Eternal.”
Maybe he’d be able to take sparring a little more seriously by then. Maybe.
But there was Michael, with his gentle touch again, and he felt spoiled by the way he so tenderly brushed aside his hair.
Not spoiled enough that he felt like he had any reason not to enjoy it, though.
Had he been this close to Michael before? Probably. Maybe not like this, though. They were close enough that he thought he could see Michael through Sessrumnir’s glamour. He looked different than Percy ever had as Sessrumnir, but even that magic wasn’t enough for him not to recognize Michael.
The same strong jawline. The same impressive scar. The same kind eyes.
And, he got to appreciate them all up close.

“I think I’m in trouble already,” he said, although he’d meant to keep it to himself. There was still a smile on his face, but when Sessrumnir processed what he’d said, he made sure it was bigger. Maybe then Alastor could tell that Sessrumnir was obviously just joking around.
It didn’t stop his heart from fluttering obnoxiously whenever their eyes met, and any amount of joking around wouldn’t be able to stop Michael from missing Devyn whenever he couldn’t be with him.
“Come on, I think we should take a break. Maybe we’ll feel like actually fighting once we’ve had lunch,” Sessrumnir suggested and carefully pushed himself up so he wouldn’t crush Devyn in the process.
Stop… he thought as he rubbed at his chest once he was sitting on the ground, as if that ever kept his starseed from acting out. It was his starseed reacting, right? That was the most reasonable explanation. He kept his eyes away from Devyn now, and probably for the first time, he regretted leaving the necklace with his civilian self.

Again, Alastor laughed. Light and pleasant, because it was so easy to forget about whatever shadows plagued him when he was with Michael. There was a part of him that wondered how much influence Sessrumnir had here, because it was a second home, and his heart had been here since the last Knight.
He felt close to Percy, here. Maybe closer to Michael, too.
He didn’t know how to process it so didn’t think too deeply about it. All he knew was that he didn’t feel alone. He didn’t feel like the weight of the universe was pushing down on him, or like the Chaos and shadows of his homeworld were slowly picking him apart.
He was taking this seriously. But, Michael was the one that told him he couldn’t just keep pushing on and on and on. Like he had been.
And, he was right.
Devyn was healthier now. More focused. Getting stronger. Clear headed.
“Well, I can’t argue with that plan. I’ll go grab the blanket and set up for lunch, you get Princess out so she can get a little extra attention while we’re here.”
They had sparred. A little bit. Enough to get his heart pounding, so that had to count for something.
