Cypher hit him. Hit him. It wasn’t enough to hurt, but it was enough to tingle, to surprise him. It startled Andreiya, but not enough to throw him off course. He stumbled a bit but quickly corrected and spun to face the direction of the blast.
He saw the movement. He aimed at Cypher. He pulled the trigger.
It wasn’t his best shot, but it was enough to either hit him or keep him moving.
And, it meant that Andreiya could try to cover the distance and tag him.

As Andreiya turned to face him, Cypher skid to an abrupt stop and all but dove for the closest pillar for cover. He’d stumbled a bit but caught himself against it before his face met concrete nearly dropping his blaster in the process. He’d missed. No time to contemplate his luck with that one as he now had ten seconds to complete the objective. Andreiya had the advantage of being more fleetfooted and quicker than he was but both their weapons were now on cooldown and this was likely the only chance he’d get to turn the tables and try to tag the Corporal first. To maintain some semblance of momentum, Cypher again pushed himself away from the pillar and ran to intercept Andreiya.

There was a brief second where Andreiya wondered what happened if they both tagged each other at the same time. He had the opportunity to adjust course and run. He could probably outrun Cypher for long enough that his blaster could recharge, and he could fire again, but that sort of felt deceptive. If this were a real battle, maybe a Negaverse agent could teleport. Maybe a Senshi had hidden magic. Maybe there were bombs or traps hidden somewhere in the terrain.
No, he would meet Cypher head on.
Whatever happened, happened. It was good training. His heart rate was accelerated and he’d had the opportunity to practice weaving and adjusting to the strange Earth terrain.
They were closing in on each other, quickly; he reached his hand out to try and tag Cypher’s shoulder.
He wasn’t going to lose.
But, maybe they could both win.

Cypher had thought that Andreiya would have chosen to seek cover and hide. So when the Corporal turned and rushed him head-on, all he could think to do was to drop his shoulder back and spin away to the side to avoid being tagged. The room was a blur as he enacted this motion and to be frank, he wasn’t entirely certain if he’d been tagged, but rather than running away again, Cypher fell to one knee and raised his blaster chest high at Andreiya. He pulled the trigger and… Nothing… A second too early. Cypher’s own blaster was still on cooldown and had not yet recharged fully. In his mind, he swore at himself for not counting properly because, if this had been a real fight, he’d be dead. He stood and extended a hand out towards the Corporal. “Good match.”

Andreiya slowed when Cypher said good match, because maybe it could have gone on for long, but–
No, this was a good stopping point. He lowered his own blaster and smiled at Cypher as he took his hand.
“You were very good! I did not expect you to go to the lower floors, that was very good thinking. If the Commodore were here, he would no doubt be praising your quick thinking. You kept me on my toes. I think we should do this again sometime. Did your blaster jam?” he asked, uncertain on the exact nature of why it didn’t fire.
He’d known it was going to be close, but still.
“I was thinking about doing some tweaks to mine, maybe we can work on ours together. After dinner. Would you like to sample some Earth cuisine to restore our energy?”

A part of him felt relieved that at least Andreiya felt that the Commodore would have approved of their spar. There had been no meeting or gathering since the incident with Caedus’ starseed and the generators; for that reason alone, Cypher had kept his head low and not made contact with Lyndin. Cypher shook his head, “I don’t believe so. It’s likely I pulled the trigger a fraction of a second too soon.” His mind had been too busy counting Andreiya’s cooldown instead and his own muscle memory with his blaster was not quite second nature yet. “I would appreciate your input on how I can modify or upgrade my weapon. However, food first does sound like a good idea.” He could feel the dull ache in his stomach just before it’d normally make noise in protest; running around as they were, high on adrenaline, it only expedited the onset of hunger even though the spar was quite short by comparison to the long battle with Order and the Negaverse. “Do you have any recommendations on where to eat?”

“Not in the slightest,” Andreiya answered, with too much cheer for someone who didn’t know where they were going. And yet, he seemed to look forward to the adventure. He wasn’t alone; if he was going to get lost, at least he’d get lost with a friend.
And, if they ran into any trouble, he knew he had someone to watch his back–and he’d be in good hands.
“But we can figure it out together.”
Even if they had to wear their awful human disguises.
Food would be a good start, and he was very much looking forward to a workshop afterwards.
