Whatever shred of respect Yngvara may have held for the older iceling was long since gone. Even as she stared down at the younger girl, Yngvara leveled her own glare at her as if to force Snowelle to see just how different she really was. Normally Yngvara was the more ‘calm’, if not bull headed, of Sylvirah’s children, but now…
Now she was just hurt. Hurt, mad, even a little scared-
Her eyes widened as she turned back up to Ergon. Was he shaking? She’d never seen him this upset before, no matter what anyone had ever done to him and as vindicating as it was Yngvara also knew enough to stay quiet. She didn’t even so much as look back at the older iceling as they left. Instead, she just slipped her scarf back around her neck, and tucked it tight without so much as bothering to pull her hair through.
It was hard to say anything after that. She didn’t even really let it sink in until she was sure they were far enough away and by then Yngvara was already crying. Quietly, though, as if she were trying really hard to keep it all in.

There was no sound of anyone calling for him or trying to give chase, and he wasn't sure if that made this better or worse. Ergon's mind was too much of a mess to truly sort though that sort of detail. Faced with the implications of his mother's actions... He still had trouble believing that had really been her. Yet, her expressions had been clear, and her words had been focused. She had meant every word.
Just as shocking perhaps.. was his own reaction to her. When had he softened up on the worth of non-Zenans? When had it gotten to the point that he would choose a stubborn little hybrid over his own mother?
But that hadn't been his mother. Not the mother had had cared for and loved unconditionally through the years. That woman back there had been someone else entirely.
After a long stretch of silence, he registered that Ygnvara was crying. Frankly, it was difficult to not just break down and do the same. It was easier to hold it in when there was someone else to be strong for though... He turned for one of the pavilions and guided his niece along. He sat slowly, gingerly, as though his whole body was sore, and pulled her in front of him to take her little hands into his own. "My mother has been ill for a long time," he started softly, "and I have never seen her like that before." He took a deep breath and raised the end of his own scarf to wipe at Ygnvara's cheeks gently. "I am sorry for everything she said to you. None of it was true. I know that you know that, but.. know that I know it, too."

Yngvara couldn’t bring her gaze up from the ground. Her hands were balled into fists at her side, gripping so tightly into the fabric of her coat that her knuckles had gone white. She’d never been this mad or humiliated in her life. It was just…so much to deal with all at once! She hated that woman! How could one person make her feel so small and worthless while at the same time making it so that all she wanted to do was lash out?
She followed along with her Uncle because Yngvara was too trapped in her own head to think of running. If she’d been a few beats further into a mental revelation she would have bolted. Even as Ergon sat and tugged her closer the young teen resisted, digging her feet into the stones a little and holding onto her fists until he slowly loosened them.
“…I know.” She murmured, finally looking up at his face. “If I hadn’t been with you then she might not have acted like that around you. She might have been better.”

Ergon had seen the young girl irked plenty of times; more often than not, it was aimed at him. This was a new level to see from her though.. but he couldn't blame her. The anger in his own belly surely couldn't compare to what she was feeling. 'You are right. She would have been different if it had just been me.' The words remained sequestered in his mind while he closed his eyes against the aching in his chest. Snowelle had been so excited to see him, and then her reaction to Ygnvara had gotten in the way. He let out a long breath and opened his eyes again. "It does not matter. You were there, and she chose to behave that way. It was unacceptable."
He wasn't sure what he was going to do the next time he saw his mother. Would she even remember the confrontation? He still felt fuzzy around the edges, everything still sinking in. He had chosen Ygnvara over his mother. There was a lot to think about. It would have to wait though. "I think I could use something warm to drink." Warm and strong. "Would you like something?"

[FIN]
While this wasn't the first interaction Yngvara had ever had dealing with those who didn't care for her kind it was definitely the most abrasive. There was a tremor that ran through her arms and it didn't matter how much she tried to bury her tears they came regardless.
To his question she nodded her head and tentatively reached for his hand. Her Uncle may not have been her favorite person, but in that moment he may as well have been a safe harbor in a storm.
