A certain level of dissonance took hold of Dris’rynne. It was much harder to compartmentalize her fears and anxieties when it was other people bleeding out underneath her. Since it was her daughter she kept shifting into tremors, but the shifter held strong. The wound was deep, would likely cause Adenah pain long into her old age, though if she wanted to see those years she needed to stem the bleeding. With a harsh tug, Dris’rynne pulled the strips of her cloak together around the wound and blocked out the pain filled whimpers coming out of the younger hybrid.
Instead of answering, Dris’rynne nodded her head. At the moment talking would hurt too much if she even could. His hands had done a number to her throat and she found herself spitting up blood from time to time.

[9/10]
Others were coming over to them now and Adenah realized all at once that it hadn’t just been them fighting for their lives. At any moment someone could have come to help Grunt, ending the whole operation just like that and yet…they hadn’t. If anything the almost casual way one of Adenah’s men spoke made it seem as if they’d actually won which was so relieving it almost felt like a lie. From what she could see there weren’t many bodies moving around, btu the ground was absolutely littered with fresh corpses.
“Oh Gods this is…I just…” She couldn’t help it; the stress of it all got to her and Adenah felt tears pricking at her eyes. It was over, but at what cost?

Once she was sure Adenah would be fine physically, Dris’rynne settled down on the ground next to her. A few of the surviving members of their group came up to check on the two and while Dris’rynne couldn’t answer their questions she could direct them. Grunt’s carts would be confiscated, the safe house would be burned, and this chapter in Yael was closed. The guild would survive with new leadership, and Dris’rynne knew how the chain worked.
When a leader was defeated the one who did the deed was deemed the successor. If she left it was it was then Adenah would just be sucked in further…Brushing hair away from her tearful daughter’s face, Dris’rynne smiled and leaned down to kiss her forehead.
Now was her time to settle and have a family of her own. It was Adenah’s time to actually enjoy her youth and Dris’rynne…Well, she’d started this whole mess so the least she could do would be to make sure Adenah stayed out for good.
“I love you.” Her voice was barely a whisper and a garbled one at that.

[10/10]
Adenah was no longer attempting to hide her tears. She was flat out bawling and didn't care who saw. Even before she'd received the brand from Grunt she'd been his pawn, she just hadn't known it, and everything just seemed to weigh so much heavier after having her children. After years of living in fear of them being found out, of having her relationship with Dovian dangled in front of her, Adenah could finally just breath.
"I love you too, mama." She spoke through a hiccup and reached out to take Dris'rynne's hand in her own. If possible she would have hugged her.

[FIN]
Dris'rynne squeezed Adenah's hand and felt herself resign. There was so much more than needed to be done, but that could all wait. At the very least Adenah's chapter was finished.
She lowered herself fully onto the ground and stretched out near her daughter. There had been plenty of moments where she thought the two of them would both die that day, but she was so grateful that it hadn't happened. Her prayers had been answered and that was all Dris'rynne could have ever hoped for.
She'd never been good for anything more than a hired blade, but at least she was a good one.
