There was no hesitation to offer her his comfort when she started to break down. He'd always been rather perceptive to others' feelings, willingly offering anyone a hug if they needed it or an ear if physical comfort wasn't wanted. It never bothered him to always be the one to step up, though he'd been teased plenty of times for it when he was a child. While the other boys would roughhouse and try to act all tough, he'd be doing something quieter. Oh, sure, He could be a troublemaker when he wanted to be. He loved pulling pranks on the adults who took care of them or messing with the bullies. Just to show them not everyone was going to bend backwards for them. But being a typical boy had never been in his interest.
"Feel better now?" Kayde whispered, feeling like the moment would be spoiled if he used his normal voice. As if Elka were a piece of fragile china that would shatter under the pressure of too much noise.

Elka took a deep breath and let it out slowly before answering with "A little." She wasn't sure if she did. She did feel a bit lighter, like something heavy that she had been carrying around with her for a very long time was gone. But that didn't mean she felt better. More confused than ever, really, now that she could think a bit more clearly. This felt nice. Very nice. But it couldn't really go anywhere, could it? She wasn't welcomed back at the trope. And even if she was, she was done with that lifestyle. Mucking out animal cages and setting up equipment wasn't her thing. Nor did she enjoy the constant moving around. The inn was boring and sometimes long hours, but at least it was a stable environment that she knew.
"That doesn't mean I forgive you," she said, pushing away from him and wrapping her arms over her stomach. Her eyes said the moment was over and the future was still uncertain.

Letting her go was difficult, but Kayde did it the instant he felt her pull away. There was no pushing the Ice girl to do something until she was ready, so he would just have to keep how he felt about all this to himself until than. If she ever reached that point of forgiveness. Elka could be very temperamental indeed.
"I know. I understand." He tried a smile, only to have her stare blankly back at him. He hoped it was conveyed enough that he was truly glad to see her, despite it taking so long to. Saying or doing too much might make her mad enough to avoid him forever.

Elka couldn't think of much more to say. Or anything else to think and feel. Her emotions were a jumble at the moment and she wanted some alone time to think about it, clear her head. Make a decision if she wanted to let him off the hook for being gone for so long. Not that it mattered if she did or not. The trope would leave when business dried up and he would be gone once more. Leaving her all alone in a city that still felt so strange to her.
Looking away from him, off towards the entrance of the alleyway they stood in, watching the people walking by on the street, she said softly, "I think I'd like to be alone, now."

"Uh, yes, yes. Got it." This got really awkward really fast. Not that he should have expected anything more or less after so long apart. He didn't feel quite as emotional about it as she clearly did. Had she given the green light, he would have instantly picked up from where they left off. Where that would go when it was time for him to leave, he wasn't thinking about that. The future was so uncertain, he preferred to live in the moment.
"I'm very sorry," Kayde said once more, before turning and leaving her in the alleyway by herself. Much as he didn't want to, there was nothing else he could do except that to help the situation.
