“I do like watching him. He is very calming. His voice is kind. I feel as though I am listening to a friend.” Caedus was not as quick to follow along but he was doing his best. His hand was not as steady and he had to squint as he was moving along. “He is very good at his craft. I think artists must have very powerful souls. Not everyone can create something out of nothing. He has no format, no blueprint. He is not looking at a picture to paint or replicate. This comes from inside of him.” The watercolors were interesting, because he realized very quickly that it wasn’t just about mixing the colors but about water, too. His first mistake was starting with too much water, but he’d taken a little bit of it off by dabbing a paper towel across the waterlogged portions of the canvas. He seemed to like the texture it created but was careful moving forward. “I wish to see beautiful places like this, too. Maybe when Velencya is safe, I would like to travel again. They do not need me, they have done well without me for so long.” He sounded proud of them, even if there was an undeniable sadness hiding behind his words.

"I think that's what he was going for," said Sadie, brushing the outlines of some mountains into existence. "I think he wanted to be a friend to everyone. I'm trying to learn from him. That's what I'd like to be, too." Sadie liked hearing his voice, too. It made it easier to focus on the brushstrokes and the calm joy of watching shapes come to life under her fingers, and to ignore any of the thoughts that tried to crawl inside her head. She went quiet for a few moments as her landscape started to form. She did keep an eye on Caedus, since this activity was for him, but although he was clearly still learning the materials, he seemed to be enjoying the process, not getting frustrated. "There's a lot of beautiful places on Earth that you can look at while you're here," she said, as their painted world started to come a little more into focus. "Even near here. There's the reservoir, which is barely out of town, but if you drive a few hours, you can get to Shenandoah National Park, which is the best of the mountains, or if you go the other direction, you can get to the beach and watch the sun set over the waves."

“Oh?” Caedus asked; he was too focused on his painting and occasionally darting up to watch the screen to look at her. “They sound beautiful.” But then, everything did. He liked the city, but it was so big and metallic and unnatural. So full of lights and movement. Which, he liked! But he found himself very tempted by such beautiful, natural things, too. “Perhaps I should start with the reservoir. I do not know if I could handle being driven anywhere. I am very large, and cars look very small. And I look very strange,” he mused. “I have a glamour, I could look human. I have had to use it in the past. But I am not really a fan of it. I did not think I was vain, and yet.” He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. “Perhaps I am just tired of not being able to be myself. You are a good friend, though. I just want you to know. I think everyone would be better off with you around.”

"Maybe someone would have a convertible that they can drive you in," said Sadie, eyes narrowed in thought, as she finished off her painting with some small yellow dots in the foreground. Bob hadn't said anything about those, but she thought they looked like wildflowers. "It's a car without a roof, so you could stretch out as much as you wanted. They're nice. You can feel the breeze in your hair, smell the soil and the sunshine and the flowers." With a final few flicks of paint, Sadie was done, and she stepped back as the video finished up. "Although it wouldn't do much to hide the fact that you were Velencyan, so maybe that's out." She tilted her head and collapsed back onto her couch. "Unless you wanted to wear the rain gear again? But, no pressure. I can't be the one to drive you anywhere, anyway." Yes, it was legal for her to drive, even with her eye, but she'd never liked it, and she'd taken the excuse of her disability to never touch a steering wheel again. "I'm sure we can find a lovely place to visit no matter what you decide about cars, or glamours. I hope I get to see some of them with you." She smiled over at him, eyes soft. "You being around makes my life better, too."

Caedus was in the process of mulling it over when she said him being around made her life better, and he was distracted completely from his painting as he looked to her. “Oh. Thank you. That is very kind.” His painting was, by no means, a thing of impeccable beauty. He had sort of followed along, but at one point seemed to have gotten distracted just watching how the colors blended together. Everything he’d painted had the ‘wrong’ color somewhere in it, but it didn’t look like he’d done it carelessly, and the colors seemed to blend together. He could have benefitted from stronger lines and greater strokes, but he seemed pleased with what he had produced nonetheless. “I think I might have a difficult time keeping my rain gear on in a moving car. But perhaps we will think of something. I would like to see many things with you, I think I would enjoy them more with you there. I am fond of the woods and my legs are very long, so I travel quickly when I need to. I may be old but I am healthier now. Now, my bones do not creak.” He paused, and corrected, “Much.”

"We can walk all the way to West Virginia, then," said Sadie in a dreamy, half serious way. It wasn't the kind of thing she would usually try. She being outside, yes, but with the flowers she was looking at in neat garden patches, and close enough to her house that she could come sleep in her own bed at the end of the day. She wasn't a camper. If that was how Caedus could get out of the city, though, maybe it would be worth a try. Maybe. She realized the had gone off into her own thoughts, and she took a moment to pull herself back. "I like your art," she said, because she did, because it had gotten his mind off of things for a little, there, and that was what was important. "But, just because it's done doesn't mean I want you to go. Can I talk you into staying the night, maybe?"

Caedus nodded along with her, because he obviously had no idea how long of a walk it might be to West Virginia but he didn’t seem like he’d have minded. Not with company like her, at least. “Easily,” he answered; he glanced to the window and supposed that it would probably rain all night, into tomorrow, too. He wasn’t in any rush to go back out into it. “If I am not imposing, I would be glad to stay the night.” He would have agreed even if she hadn’t said such kind things about his art, and while he wasn’t completely certain that it was particularly likable, he liked painting it, and he liked spending time with her. So, he liked what it represented, if nothing else. But, the colors were growing on him, and he looked at it fondly. “I like your art, too. Thank you for painting with me. And for being my friend. I feel comfortable around you. I do not often feel that way, so I hope you know how important you are to me.”

"Of course you're not imposing," said Sadie, and it was the truth. She got all nervous, if she ever tried to lie, so nervous that she had at least twenty tells, and right now there was none of that. Her voice was soft as soft, her smile bright. "I invited you," she reminded him. It wasn't like she always wanted people in her home, she was an introvert at heart, but for Caedus? She felt comfortable around him, too. "Now, let's find you some blankets," she said, although it was less finding and more picking up off the floor, and the couches. Sadie did not have any shortage of blankets, or things that would make someone comfortable through the nights. If he didn't mind them being a little short on his ankles, she might even be able to find Caedus some dry clothes. She could give him a peaceful night.
