Orah turned to take the cups and she smiled, mulling over how she felt more at ease now than she had in a while. Even with everything going on, she'd been able to set it aside for a bit and just... live, the way she used to before everything.
Not quite in the same way, but so close.
"I'm glad to. I really enjoyed it." She said as she stacked the cups upside down in the rack. "I'd do it more if I had the time to. But you and Da are doing okay. I sort of worried a little when I first moved out, but you really are okay."
It might have been a rough transition for everyone, at least a little bit, but things had settled into their new places. Life had moved on. Some things had stayed blessedly the same, and that was comforting.
"You can always call me if you need anything." She said after a moment, bent over the dishes. "Or even just because."

It would be nice if they could go back to living this way. Would it be the same as they were when they were kids? No. Matthew had grew out of the poverty bitterness, had grown out of being taunted by his classmates as much as it still rubbed wrong. Orah had grown up, was off saving the world as a nurse, was off thriving--but this was peaceful. Nice. Familiar. Something he wanted desperately. And something he could never make himself leave. "Heh," he laughed, and his shoulders bounced for it, "I'm glad we're okay. I appreciate you taking time to come over, even if you are busy as ********." Matt paused, cleared his throat, and added a, " Sorry," because he did his best to not curse around his family as much but-- Well, sometimes when he was comfortable, it slipped out anyway. "I'd like that. Talking to you, that is." He took out his phone and waved it. "Same to you. I can almost always be texted." Except if he was Fulgurite-- no, he was trying to ignore that part of his reality right now.

She was smiling as she placed the last of the dishes and closed the washer, straightening up to turn and face her brother.
He really had changed, these last few years. Not in a bad way, just in a different sort of way. She hoped it meant they might possibly get close again, even if that closeness was different too. She had to press up onto her toes a little, but she reached to ruffle his hair and then pull his head down enough she could peck a quick kiss to his forehead. Orah danced away before he could protest, sweeping around the counter to gather up her bags.
"I should head home before it gets too much later. You can run the dishwasher after I'm gone. You wanna walk me out to my car?" The young woman said over her shoulder as she headed into the living room to bend over the arm chair and kiss her father good bye. They exchanged a few words, warm and loving, before she finally headed for the door.
It didn't feel so weird to be leaving any more at the end of a visit. She had her own home, her own bed, waiting for her across town in the apartment she shared with Arian. And she'd be back, of course, the next time she had some time to visit, confident as always in the certainty that both of them, and this shop, would still be here.

Matthew wanted to protest her kiss on the forehead and her ruffling of his hair as much as he didn't. It felt like Orah, felt like his sister, felt like reality without him being Fulgurite-- He let out a small sigh that he covered up with a smile, instead, the frown he wore gone when she turned over her shoulder to look back at him. "Yeah, sure," easily, he slipped behind her, though he stood back to let her and Dad say goodbye first. That felt nice too, Orah and Dad talking like it was the old days and she was going to visit soon-- Matthew followed when she finally moved toward the door. "Ready?" Was he ready to let her leave? He was supposed to be, and he was, in the way that she needed to get back to saving the world, but that meant he needed to go back to ... well ... whatever the ******** his life was.

Orah led the way down the stairs after making her good byes, knowing the way so well she could have done it with her eyes closed. At the back door, she paused after she left herself out to turn and wave to her brother before she headed for her car.
She carried with her a sense of peace and warmth, like a little ball in her chest. The assurance that everything was okay, that it was how she had left it, was a great comfort to her. She still had this, still had this little oasis of normalcy, even if all the rest of her life was wrapped up in that other life she lead. It reaffirmed her determination to protect it, and them, from what she knew was really out there.
Hopefully, neither of them would ever know about any of it. She'd work hard to make that a reality.
