Pausing to nibble on another piece of pastry Jane listened to Sonia's suggestion of driving and she nodded thoughtfully. It'd be helpful not to have to worry about causing infractions upon entering the bookstore. Both of their suggestions seemed ideal and her grin grew before she found her voice, the food she'd been chewing finally have been swallowed, "I think you have the best idea. I might be labelling myself as being lazy with the want to be driven around instead of walking but at least this way we'd not have to retreat back to this area in order to retrieve the car for later, right?"

Logically it seemed only the best idea was to take the car now. Jane picked off another piece of her food and was surprised to see just how little of the cinnamon roll was left. She gave Sonia a rueful grin. "I think I underestimated just how tasty this pastry is. I have eaten almost all of it already," she held up the small portion that was left as to prove her point, "you did warn me that the food was terrific. Anyways - lead on and I will follow. On to the bookstore?"

“To the bookstore,” Sonia smiled, gladdened by the joy on Jane’s face while she ate away at the pastry.

It only took a few minutes to finish her own breakfast, move the car closer to their next destination, and find a new parking spot. Thankfully this location had its own lot and so long as they bought something then they’d get a voucher for two hours of free parking while they looked around. “Alright, shall we?”

Inside there were two floors worth of books, a table upon entry with new releases and off to the right there was a display for travel. Beyond that, against the wall, was an array of magazines from hobbies and crafts, to business and finance, and more. Each general section had a sign hanging above it including fantasy, fiction, and mystery. “It might be a bit overwhelming, but feel free to take your time.” They were in no rush so there was little reason to speed through the store.

Jane was amazed at the sight of all the books. The fact that there were two whole floors that she could choose to explore almost overwhelmed her, but only for a second. The feeling passed and she moved past Sonia before turning around to look at the other girl in the eyes. The idea of just losing herself in this place was intriguing but she wasn't sure Sonia would approve. Knowing that she had plenty of time just to browse was helpful and she sighed in wistfulness before speaking, "thanks again for this Sonia. I'm not sure if I've said it yet but I'm really grateful for this chance to just be able to be out and about. It feels nice, you know?"

Peering at the table that held the new releases Jane ran her fingers along the spine of one book before making a note of the author's name. The idea of finding a name from a book of names was intriguing but somehow Jane wasn't sure that was going to be how she discovered who "she" was. But it would be a start. Glancing to a directory of the different book sections Jane mentally noted the section where one would find baby name books. Her gaze skimmed over the science-fantasy genre before she moved away from Sonia. Her gaze settled on a computer terminal before she passed it by. It probably wouldn't have been much of an assist as she couldn't remember what type of books she'd read before her accident. Pausing in thought Jane allowed herself to move into the young adult fiction section before pulling out a random book from a shelf of book series to run her hand over the illustration on the front. She made a note that the book in question was part of a quartet and grabbed the remaining books.

For now - even just grabbing something to peruse later on would be a bonus. Her gaze took in the author's name out of habit as she made into another section of the store.

Not wanting to make Jane feel rushed, Sonia took her time perusing the business and finance sections before wandering over to the crafts and hobby area which included gardening. While she didn’t have much in the way of hobbies herself, aside from fencing that is, she did find some level of wonder in seeing how creative people were.

From the shelf, she picked up a jewelry book, one with glass beads and another with wire-wrapped precious stones. They were all beautiful, stunning intricate details that almost made her feel a bit envious.

Almost.

Unless there was a special occasion, Sonia never really wore fancy things. Earrings were the only thing she wore that might be considered fancy, but they were just solid gold; no gemstone. Aside from those, there were two necklaces, both incredibly simple in design; one had a butterfly-shaped pendant and the other had one of her grandmother's ring. It was too big to fit on any one of her fingers and so they bought a chain for her to hang it from until she got older.

A wonderful memory and one she held close to her heart.

Sonia traced her finger over the high-gloss image of a sunstone wrapped in copper wire; it was stunning and called to her in a way that none other could likely relate. Still, she knew better than to pine after something she’d never have time to make for herself, especially since it was highly unlikely she’d have a reason to wear something so ornate.

The book was put back as she moved further down the aisle towards the gardening section where she spotted the one that had been suggested to her about a year ago; the language of flowers. Thank God for Google the saving grace that allowed her and Reed to communicate better; at least let them see things on similar grounds.

For nostalgia’s sake she tucked that one under her arm and meandered towards the novels; from young adult to mystery over to the romance section.

Jane had been just running her fingers along various shelves of books when she felt that maybe she had been away from Sonia for a while. She had moved from the section where she had found the quartet of books earlier and was simply just browsing. She held tightly to the books and enjoyed just browsing titles that she now found in the science-fiction section. Her finger stopped on a book's spine that held the title "Moon Chosen" and she felt a spark of something before shaking it off. But since there was a visceral reaction from the title alone Jane removed the book from the shelf and pulled two more books off that seemed to be in the same series.

It was interesting to note that not all of her purchases where books of names. She winced at the weight of the now growing pile of books and moved to find a basket in which she could place her growing purchases list. Sighing Jane rolled her shoulders before grabbing the basket and made an effort to pull away from the shelves of books for the moment in an effort to find Sonia. She had at least tried getting some naming books but mostly she found herself wanting to crack open the other books that she had found instead.

The brunette soon stumbled across Sonia and put down her basket before groaning. "Okay, that was an experience. I think one could possibly never get bored in this place. There's so many books."

“For avid readers, that is definitely true.” Sonia had to hold back her surprise at the stack of books Jane had. She was definitely going to have to ask Reed to help pay for some of this.

Then again-

This outing was her own suggestion and she did leave Jane unsupervised in a store with many temptations. Seems that in her former life she might have been a lover of books. Might need to look at getting her a library card. Or perhaps a Kindle Unlimited subscription. Definitely going to need to talk to Reed about that.

“Ok, well. Let’s go get checked out, shall we?” Before heading over to the cashier she put the novel back on the shelf; with how busy things were right now, Sonia knew it would be two weeks at best before she got around to reading anything.

Next time, maybe.

Check-out went relatively quickly and soon they were on their way to their last destination, Costco. “There are a few things I need to make sure we pick up; milk, eggs, bread, some fruit, and muffins.” Goodness, their muffins were amazing; blueberry, poppy seed, and chocolate with chocolate chunks. “I also want to get one of their rotisserie chickens.” For only five dollars, it was a price that was difficult to beat.

“If you want to get any drinks, we can grab some. Or if something sounds good we can try it. They’re usually big packages so maybe if we stick to one or two new things to try. There will be employees at the end of aisles offering samples; I definitely suggest trying them.” It’s how she found a love for their spinach and cheese ravioli.

As the total was rung up for her books Jane winced a little. She hadn't meant to go overboard but there was just something that called to her about them. She had noted more books by the one author and was tempted to come back at a later date and see what they were all about but for now she just ran her fingers over the spines of those that she had before they were tucked away in a bag and then she and Sonia were leaving. The bag was stowed out of sight in Sonia's car before they began to make their way to the Costco. Jane was curious about just how large of a place Costco was if it offered all those that Sonia mentioned plus offered samples.

Once they arrived at Costco Jane would have sworn that her eyes had grown wide at the immense size of the building. "That's a short list of items. I like the sound of muffins. Those are things that are easy to tie a person over between meals." As they entered the 'warehouse', as it seemed to be called, Jane followed behind Sonia not trusting herself not to wander off. The possibility of picking something out Jane merely shook her head in return. "For now I think I'll just stick to trying some of these samples that you mention. Maybe if there's something that I like from those that will be good enough."

All Jane knew was that she wasn't exactly fond of a certain group of food. Her gaze kept swinging from aisle to aisle and in one that they passed she saw more books but she would not give in to the temptation. She had enough books for now. For now this trip would result only in food purchases.

“You’d be surprised at how quickly these things add up.” If it wasn’t that they had a house of five, then she would have gone to the general convenience store for a half-gallon of milk instead of the two gallon-sized ones she’d get here.

It’d be better once everyone was able to contribute some but for now, this was fine since Reed hadn’t charged her for rent for a while now. Perhaps this should just be her paying it forward for his generosity.

Yeah… generosity… benevolence… All those good and nice fluffy things.

Nah more like repayment for his sufferance. At the end of the day, he had chosen them for his team. Whereas she had been assigned due to her negligence and disobedience. For several months Sonia had been Reed’s problem and this was her showing that she could play nice. After all, she had given him enough s**t to last a lifetime and with four women in his house… good god he was in for a treat.

For now, though, Sonia led Jane through the store. The kitchen and electronics were passed over pretty quickly, as was the garden area since that was Reed’s thing. With her cart, she made her way to the very back of the warehouse, where the cases of drinks and frozen food isles were at.

“Mmmm, something smells good.” Glancing at the other end of the aisle, she spotted someone who was offering samples of teriyaki. “Do you want to try that?” Sonia asked as she grabbed a case of water bottles to add to the cart since the one in her trunk was running low.

Jane sniffed the air appreciatively as Sonia made the comment about something smelling good. A contemplative look crossed her features as she took in the aroma that was wafting in the aisle before nodding in response to Sonia's question. She would try some teriyaki. Moving closer to the sample booth Jane waited for the crowd to thin out before approaching the worker doling out the sample pieces of the item before snagging one for herself.

At first she stared suspiciously at the small portion of teriyaki that she had been offered but noticed quickly that all samples were about the same size. She inhaled the scent once more before quickly spearing the meat with the plastic fork that was provided and popped it into her mouth and chewed thoughtfully. Well, well, well. Jane swallowed the piece slowly, savoring the flavors. One could easily get hooked on this, that was for sure. Asking permission and getting it Jane took one more sample cup and repeated the procedure before finding Sonia. Her gaze glanced back to the booth and then to the other woman. "Would it be a hassle to ask for this to be added to our cart total? Once I get some funds I could pay back some, if not all, of the total cost."

Her gaze lowered before she added, "It's just really really good. I probably wouldn't ask for anything else."

“You don’t need to worry about paying me back.” Sonia knew well enough what financial situation they would be in when Reed essentially adopted the three girls that had been forced corrupted into the Negaverse.

To someone who has never experienced memory loss, it is easy for that individual to pass it off as no big deal; and sometimes a blessing if their life was really that bad. But to the people who lost half if not all their memories, it was a big deal. Their identity was gone. Every facet of what made them who they were previously had been wiped clean and they were left a blank slate.

Some Generals saw this as an opportunity for molding, to create a perfect agent from the empty shell of what was left in the wake of a forced corruption. Others, like Reed, seemed content to allow them to come into their own and rediscover themselves. On the one hand, the first were given purpose and direction, whereas the latter was left feeling lost and sometimes fell through the cracks.

Reed told her to watch over the former White Moon Senshi on the battlefield. That command, however, seemed to have extended beyond that singular moment. It’s not that Sonia minded. Jane was sweet and considerate. A bit withdrawn but that seemed to be a response to her current circumstance rather than a personality trait; in time she hoped the young woman came into her own and bloom like the flower her sphere represented.

Prehnite would no doubt be happy for that.

What concerned her, however, was that one day Jane would learn of what truly happened, and when that day came Jane may decide for herself that the Negaverse is now where she wants to be because they had taken from her everything, she had no choice or say in the matter, and the small team that Prehnite had carefully picked for himself was not suitable for her or her needs.

To some degree it felt more like a matter of when not if this time would come, and when it did- Sonia would be faced with the tough decision of helping Jane or turning a blind eye if she chose to defect. Either way, the fallout would be catastrophic for every party involved. For now, all she could do was nudge Jane forward and hope she did not resent her for it in the end.

“Why don’t you grab at least two bottles of the sauce and I will go get some chicken breasts. You and I can cook enough for everyone tonight for dinner.” Hopefully, the other girls would enjoy it as well. Reed- well… as long as it wasn’t pork or lamb he’d eat it.

Even as Sonia insisted that she wouldn't have to pay her back Jane was already thinking of perhaps another way to make it up to the other girl. There had to be something that she could do to give back. But she held that thought close to her mind for the time being. She would allow Sonia to think that she was okay with the reply that she had gotten. Instead she focused on the rest of Sonia's instructions to grab at least two bottles of the teriyaki sauce. Willingly obliging she moved over to where the sauce was on display before selecting two of the containers. Moving swiftly she placed her new prize into the cart before looking longingly at the sample table.

No, she'd be able to have more than just a sample if Sonia had anything to say about it. It seemed like the household would be dining on teriyaki chicken and Jane felt a smile form on her face. This would be one good thing about shopping. A person could essentially plan their own meals in real time. Figuring out that she enjoyed this sauce was an interesting discovery. It maybe had been something that she had enjoyed before the incident that had taken her memory. Pausing in concentration Jane tried to remember something from before and sighed when nothing came to mind.

She glanced at the cart before meeting Sonia's gaze, "I'll definitely help with dinner tonight," and here she gave a conspiratorial wink, "if it means early sampling?"

What else was needed at this giant warehouse? She tried to remember what Sonia had said they needed. "Is there anything else we need? I can run and grab it if I know where to look."

“Yes,” Sonia laughed. “It means you get to taste test.” An honor she had bestowed upon Reed when she was trying to make something new; such as that eggplant parmesan he mentioned liking. She didn’t know what it was supposed to taste like, so it fell on him to figure out if there was something missing.

“The eggs and milk are by the meat area, so I can go ahead and grab those. The bakery is down that aisle,” she pointed to the opposite corner of the warehouse-like building. “If you'd like to pick something out. Muffins are usually buy one get one free but they have some apple pastries and cinnamon rolls here too.” Also, bagels if Jane preferred something savory instead of sweet.

“I’ll meet you by the fruits once I’ve grabbed these few things.” Maybe grab a couple of bananas and Cutie oranges to fill the wire basket by the fridge.

"Oh, sampling the wares will definitely be an added bonus. But even just watching will be helpful too, you know."

After hearing where she could find the muffins Jane left Sonia to approach the bakery before inhaling the various aromas that wove enticingly around her once more. Unlike with the teriyaki sample booth Jane was more cautious this time to not let herself get ensnared by the temptations that were presented to unwary shoppers. The bakery layout was impressive though. Jane wandered a bit until she found the section where the muffins were stored before remembering that Sonia had said they were a 'buy one, get one sort' of deal. Looking at the individual selections and then the various variety packs, the woman thought that maybe just getting a simple pack that was already bundled together was a better option than just randomly choosing a selection. Finding a pack that had all the varieties present Jane removed the box from the shelf on which it sat before noticing the cinnamon rolls nearby. The memory of the pastry from the coffee shop earlier was still fresh in her mind and she chose a smaller pack of six rolls before sighing.

Hopefully Sonia wouldn't get overwhelmed by this impromptu shopping trip that was seemingly becoming more and more expensive by the minute. One the way back towards the area that Sonia had indicated that fruit could be found Jane's gaze caught on a bag of bagels and she eyed the bag before grabbing it as well. No one could possibly resist cheese flavoured bagels, could they?

Holding onto her selected items tightly Jane meandered back towards the store that there seemed to be an assorted layout of fruit before finding a random surface in which she placed the muffins, cinnamon rolls and bagels. Realizing that an outdoor patio set was probably not meant as a place to set one's purchases down didn't seem to faze Jane as she kept a keen eye out for Sonia's arrival. If the store hadn't meant for the table to be used as such, they probably should have made a sign. She was feeling a sense of contentment wash over her at this simple sense of a normal outing and she felt her lips curl into a smile at everything that she'd done so far today that was outside of her "bubble" ... it was an exhilarating feeling.

“Hey! Sorry for the wait.” Sonia wheeled her cart up to where Jane was waiting and eyed her selection. “Nice picks. Their bagels are good for sandwiches too, but you’ll probably need to eat them quickly otherwise we’ll have to freeze a couple of them.” One thing she learned rather swiftly was that the Costco bakery didn’t use preservatives in their fresh baked foods which meant that bagels and blueberry muffins grew mold on them within a few days unless they were put in the freezer right away.

“Alright, while you put those in here, I’ll grab a couple of fruits and we can head to check out.” she turned, leaving the cart with Jane as she picked up a bunch of eight bananas; most were still somewhat green but there were a couple that were fully yellow. Her favorite were ones with a few brown spots so within a day or two they would be to her liking.

Next to them were the netted bags of small oranges which she grabbed one of before returning to the cart. “I think you’ll like these.” Unlike full-sized oranges that could taste tart, these seemed to always be a good balance of sweet and citrus. Refreshing in the morning or after a good workout.

Jane eyed the cart with a bit of suspicion before placing the package of bagels in the interior and glancing at the remaining space. The cinnamon rolls also were placed gently into the basket of the cart but she glanced at the muffins before sliding them gently underneath where larger items could be stored safely. That done Jane waited for Sonia's foray into the fruit section to be finished. When she returned the bananas were given a quick once over and dismissed before she gave a more appraising look at the oranges. Citrus fruits she could deal with, but bananas were a hard pass.

There was just something about the texture of a banana that Jane couldn't stand. She gave their cart another inspection before noting that everything seemed to be there. Did this mean the shopping trip was over? She glanced around the large interior space before noting where certain aisles seemed to lead to. One day she'd have to come back and make a more thorough appraisal of the place but Jane was happy with the larger portions that one could find here as opposed to other grocery stores. Her smile was back as she beamed at Sonia, "I've had fun today."
