"I've heard of your type before. Flipping about between wealthy lovers-" Ai wriggled her mangled fingers in the air like a bird in flight. "-shameless." At some point she would end up paying for a brick oven, that much Ai knew to be fact, especially if she wanted to get out of cooking.
Even though she'd known in her heart that Lucijah cared for her there was something about hearing it that warmed Ai's spirit. It felt rather like giving a feral, rabid raptrix a warm blanket in it's own little cave. None of her kind had been able to give Ai the kind of inner peace she'd needed, but Lucijah could. She was something the aishan had considered 'lesser' for years, and now...now they were having daughters together!
"Then what, then? Grassroots and beak?"

(9/10) Lucijah reached out to grasp at Ai's wriggling fingers, no longer flinching at how strange it felt to hold a hand missing some of its fingers. At first, it had been ... strange - but she'd only ever known Ai with her hand like this. She felt it probably would be harder to get used to, if she'd known her before (but then again, as they both knew, it was probably BECAUSE of these messed up fingers that she'd managed to stay alive long enough to dig her way into Ai's heart).
Instead, she tugged her hand closer and kissed her knuckles, humming in agreement. "You caught me. I came for the gold, I stayed for those rippling abdominals~-"
They were idiots. Idiots with children on the way.
"I think normal people name kids after other people sometimes. And here I am, wasting that name on that one kid we found before--."

Normal, everyday tasks no longer felt strange with Ai's gnarled fingers, but having it held would always be a bit odd. It felt as if phantom digits should have been interlocking around Lucijah's and when they didn't the others were forced to pick up the slack. Anyone else might have balked at the touch, but not her. In all fairness Lucijah had seen Ai much worse.
"Hmm. Imagine that, children that you won't have to lay with a man for and ruin your muscles." She rather liked the shifter as she was and while Ai was mostly attracted to the mind within her outer appearance was a considerable bonus. A partner that could hold her own in a fight? She could break Ai's arm and she would thank her for it.
"Ahh, that's right. Well, we won't need it anyway. That child was a boy; we're having girls." There was no real way to tell, but Elzira hadn't been so corrupted that she would birth sons. Hybrids were new, but so far they had all been daugthers so what was to stop her from continuing? "Let him keep it and with any luck he'll earn the right to it one day."

(10/10) Ai seemed so sure about daughters that Lucijah didn't dare stop to question her. For all she knew, it was because the tree was brought to life by the extremists that they'd only had girls so far - there was no reason to expect boys, right?
And besides, Lucijah was far too focused on the first comment, which had made her screw up her face in outright disgust. "Mmf-- no. No thank you, I couldn't- no. I don't know how other people do it, but no. It's too bad I won't get to go back to Elzira, some day, to thank her for that. ... Bu that gives me the idea to just name BOTH of them after you, see what happens then--"

"You could always say a prayer to her here; she'll hear." Ai assumed she would, anyway, since it was Lucijah's daughters that Elzira carried in her boughs. Surely thanks for such a gift would be heard?
"If you really want to curse them go ahead." They would already have half the island hunting them so why not paint the target even brighter? It would build character! Make them stronger and all the prouder of their heritage!
Two blooms...Goddess, Ai still couldn't believe it, but she couldn't wait to see the little ones inside.
